Safariland Launches 6378USN ALS Low Signature Holster

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

We have been drooling over samples for months now, but Safariland just released some definitive info on the new 6378USN ALS Low Signature Holster. As a quick aside, the “USN” designation doesn’t denote US Navy. Instead it stands for “US” = Berry Compliant and “N” = Non-standard. The holster features an infrared signature reducing Cordura nylon finish. The Cordura also protects the holster and helps to deaden any noise created by objects striking the holster.

The 6378 model is the concealment version of their Automatic Locking System (ALS) line and features a slight forward cant. Although often encountered in a paddle configuration, the 6378 incorporates the 3 hole pattern mounting pattern on the rear and is compatible with Safariland’s Quick Locking System (QLS) making the 6378USN a versatile, low profile holster solution.

This new finish is the heat. In addition to the ALS 6354 OPTIC QLS FORK for MRD equipped Glocks already offered by Grey Group, we know that variants of other Safariland holsters featuring this finish have already been purchased by one Army unit and are being looked at by other DoD organizations as well. Additionally, FirstSpear has developed some excellent add-ons for these new low signature holsters that we hope to be able to tell you more about soon.

The 6378USN ALS Low Signature Holster will be available from any authorized Safariland dealer.

BFG Selected to Provide Two-Point Slings for AF Security Forces ADS Tactical

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

A variant of the Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Application Slingâ„¢ (VCAS) has been chosen by USAF Security Forces as their new two-point sling system for the M4 carbine. In a contract award announced yesterday, ADS Inc will provide over 22,000 of the sling kits to various units in the Air Force.

The kit consists of a VCAS, Vest Strap Adapter, an ITW Tac Link, a SOC-Câ„¢ Long Loop Adapter, and Buttstock Storage Pouch. While the contents might seem unconventional to many, it was assembled to fulfill Security Forces’ TTPs. For example, the Vest Strap can be used while wearing armor with the VCAS stowed in the Buttstock Storage Pouch. Conversely, while in a permissive environment where armor is not required, the VCAS is used. Additionally, a spare magazine is easily carried in the Buttstock Storage Pouch while the sling is on the weapon. Remember, for the most part Security Forces are doing just that, manning checkpoints, conducting roving patrols, etc. and may not need the enhanced capability of a two-point sling all of the time. However, they can configure their carbine for use with the two-point for situations where they need it.

Manta Rails Update

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

At Modern Day Marine Manta Rails showed us their newest capability. They can now mold a company’s logo right into the rail cover.

This photo is a fine example of how you can manage wires with Manta rail covers. Incidentally, Manta Rails were chosen the the USMC for use with the M27 IAR.

B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD Stock

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Although they maintain a low profile, B5 Systems is well known in the defense and aerospace industries for building quality electrical and mechanical assemblies. In 2009, they were selected by the US Army to supply the SOPMOD Stock which was originally developed by NSWC-Crane for use with SOCOM’s SOPMOD (Special Operations Peculiar Modification) M4A1 carbines.

The stock features sloped sides for improved improved cheek weld as well as watertight battery storage compartments. Please remember, this stock will only fit carbine receiver extensions built to Mil-Spec dimensions.

The B5 Enhanced SOPMOD Stock is available from Rally Point Tactical who is bringing it to the commercial market at a substantially lower price than other, similar stocks. Interested parties (wholesale and retail) should contact shay@rptactical.com.

MDM – Other Coverage

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Modern Day Marine is one of our favorite shows of the year and by no means were we able to cover it all. Check out this coverage from our friends at KitUp!:

Benchmade’s Newest Battle Blade Is Ready for Abuse

TAG’s New M240 Machine Gun Bag

and while the coverage didn’t originate from MDM, the Medford Knife & Tool Hammerspike was also on display

Shatter Glass Easy with Hammerspike

Additionally, Gannett’s Defensenews.com offered The Show Scout

Finally, don’t forget Tactical Fanboy’s singular, titillating look at ballistic undergarments.

BCB Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before

Even between all of us, we didn’t get it all. It was a great show. Look for additional coverage of gear we saw at MDM 2012 here on SSD.

MDM – Geissele Automatics

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

This is the first time that Geissele Automatics exhibited at MDM and they were showing their Super Select-Fire (SSF) Trigger. Designed specifically for use with automatic AR-style weapons, it is a non-adjustable combat trigger. In semi-automatic mode, the SSF performs like a match-grade two-stage trigger that allows precise and accurate trigger control. Conversely, in fully-automatic mode, the SSF performs like a single-stage trigger with a smooth, continuous trigger pull and abrupt hammer release. This trigger is in use with USSOCOM and is great for a designated marksman that will also use full-auto capability.

MDM – CTC Defense

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

CTC Defense has developed the SFL-100 Low Light Aiming Laser for use with the Nammo Talley M72 series of LAW rockets. Available in Red and IR laser (with Green coming soon). This aiming device has been shown to increase night time hits by 20%.

New LAWs are coming with the mount you see here. Take a look at the cams at the aft end of the mount. These are machined to coincide with the type of round and the range settings on the SFL-100. This is because different variants of the M72 have different ballistic properties. These mounts can also be retrofitted on to existing rounds.

The SFL-100 is removable and can used over and over. Powered by a single AA battery, it can be had for under $250.
