Kinetic Development Group – SIDELOK Optic Mount

SIDELOK

The most advanced, mechanically intelligent and ideal optic mount ever devised is launching here on Soldier Systems. You don’t have to believe this claim by Kinetic Development Group. You can listen to the reasons why and try it for yourself or simply watch the Internet for the positive reviews. The guys at KDG have developed a mounting system called the SIDELOK™. What’s the big deal? Where do we start?

KDG

Prior to discussing the SIDELOK™, lets rap about why Kinetic thought they should develop a mounting system for Optics.

The first reason is repeatability. Generally optics mounts have two attachment points with separate levers. Some are adjustable so you can tighten or loosen them for the particular tolerance picatinny rail you may be mounting to. One may be tighter, one slightly looser. This is recipe for disaster in the repeatability department when installing or removing an optical accessory. The other problem is you may like you optic so tight you actually damage the pic rail. That is why the Government Issue XXX mounts for the Aimpoint actually limit the torque you can apply to the installation knob.

KDG

There is a religion when it comes to military members about putting on an optic, zeroing it, and leaving it there for fear they may lose zero between missions, and for good reason. Lets say you wanted to remove your long-range optic and put on your red dot. You would be absolutely incompetent if you did not confirm zero. Why? There are so many variables between installing, removing and reinstalling an optic you NEED to reconfirm, even if you reinstall in the same slots on the picatinny rail.

Now here comes the SIDELOK™. The SIDELOK™ takes the incompetence out of mounting optics. What do we mean by that? You have no input as a human being on how your optic mounts to your pic rail. What do we mean? You can’t screw it up!

With SIDELOK™, simply roll the optic (attached to your SIDELOK™ mount) to your picatinny railed weapon and “click!!” the mount automatically deploys the locking bars to the 45-degree angles of the picatinny rail (which hold the tightest tolerance concerning the picatinny rail specification). The locking bars snap in at the exact same time making the mounting completely repeatable. The spring cams apply the exact same amount of pressure between the two bars. The system works on spring pressure with a cam that supplies exponentially more mechanical advantage than the button that is used to release it from the weapon.

Removal and installation is extremely fast. Does that make you nervous? The only way this is coming off is if it is deliberate and by the user (YOU!). Not a sling hung up in the works. Not being jammed up on gear. Not being dropped from a first story roof in Iraq onto concrete. Yet, you can peel it off sooner than you can open your Copenhagen. The reason is there is a safety lock. You have to push the button with a human fingertip. That releases recessed “Glock like” secondary safety lock that allows the user to overcome the mechanical advantage of the cam lock and roll off the weapon. Firing a weapon with a heavy optic? The SIDELOK™ gets tighter if it needs to. This is pure mechanics; not a photographer’s quick detaching clamp like the other offerings on the market. The SIDELOK™ is also one of the slimmest mounts on the market. There is nothing in the way to snag on you, or interfere with your charging handle on a side-charging weapon platform.

KDG

This may not mean much to you if you are a user with 4 uppers for various mission profiles or uses. However, many of us and even many local LE agencies do not have the budget for mission specific uppers set up to go. With the SIDELOK™, you literally can pick and choose your mission, install your accessory in less than a second, and if installed in the same place it was zeroed, it will be on the mark.

  1. The first of the SIDELOK™ to be released is the SIDELOK™ specifically for the Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic (PRO); which is also compatible with the Aimpoint Comp M4 and the C3 models. The second is the universal picatinny SIDELOK™ Scope Riser. Don’t worry, the Aimpoint T1, T2, H1, and H2 model SIDELOK™ is on the way soon…. Stay tuned.

Kinetic Development Group – SAS-1

Monday, March 23rd, 2015

Just a few months ago, Kinetic Development Group launched its company here on Soldier Systems Daily, with the promise to bring solutions to the small arms market existing with high quality firearms. They started with the FN SCAR as many SCARs are deployed with our Special Operations Forces. They also recognize the 16S and 17S are increasingly popular with American shooters and law enforcement.

Their first products, the MREX (modular rail extensions) for the front end of the SCAR has been very popular. The KDG front and rear sling points have also brought the SCAR into the year 2015 as far as QD sling solutions go. Well, they have just addressed another common complaint about SCAR. Some refer to it as the SCAR’s “UGG Boot” like stock system.

Kinetic #SAS-1

The KDG S.A.S (SCAR Adaptable Stock) is a serious improvement on the SCAR OEM stock system.

KDG

Form…. Why is this solution a near perfect marriage of a very well designed and reliable rifle and the excellent ergonomics of the Magpul ACR stock? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to compare the two stocks and decided which is more robust. MagPul is famous for their reinforced polymers and most would argue nobody can beat them at their game. There are many empirical reports from the field complaining about broken SCAR stocks. To add to that strength is the KDG SAS coupling that is made of 6061 T6 aluminum billet that is black hard coat anodized. That not only reinforces the stock, but also the open rear end of the SCAR’s thin extruded U-shaped receiver. And to top it off, the KDG SAS assembled stock system weighs approx. ¼ pound less than the all polymer factory SCAR stock assembly!

KDG

Fit & Function… All SAS kits come standard with 7 positions of length adjustment, cheek weld height adjustment, an AMBI QD sling attachment point, a weatherproof battery compartment, and a side-folding feature. Like the factory stock, the weapon can be fired with the stock folded. KDG also added an optional set-screw to allow users the option to eliminate any play between the stock and receiver.

KDG

Aesthetics – Lets just say something about aesthetics here. The OEM SCAR stock appears to have been designed by the Zohan and is really pretty disco-disco compared to American tastes. So many people have told me they just can’t get over the Cosmonaut Boot. The KDG SAS stock gives your SCAR some American muscle car appeal that chicks dig.

KDG

We saved the best for last. The stock and adapter comes fully assembled from KDG. There are no tools required to install on your SCAR! The whole system retails for $299.00 and can be purchased at www.kineticdg.com or a dealer listed near you found on their website. www.kinetidg.com/dealers

Kinetic Development Group Announces The MREX

Friday, January 16th, 2015

Kinetic Development Group has announced the MREX, a new M-LOK equipped forend for the SCAR platform. The full release can be read below:

Easton, MD—15 JAN 15—Kinetic Development Group LLC

Kinetic Development Group (KDG) is proud to announce the debut of their first SCARcentric product – the MREX.

KDG - Outdoor 1

The SCAR is one of the most tested, reliable high-end weapons systems of our time. USSOCOM has put more rounds through the SCAR in testing than any other small arms platform in US history. Our forces have carried it into battle against our enemies on multiple continents. It can be accurately said that the SCAR is reliable and durable as an AK and as light and accurate (and nearly as ergonomic) as an AR15/M4. It is well engineered carbine…but what the heck happened when the FN Engineers designed the front end of the SCAR? Many shooters compare it to a 6 inch piece of 2×4 with cheese graters on all 4 sides! Where are you supposed to put your support hand if you have even one accessory mounted to those plastic rails?

KDG - Outdoor 1

Darren Mellors, David Loeser and AJ Lafferty, formerly of LWRCI, founded Kinetic Development Group to find solutions to problems with various high quality small arms platforms. The team recognized this as one of the shortcomings of the FN SCAR L/H.

KDG cringed at the thought of our troops dealing with the crowded front end of a weapon that seemed to have forgotten the shooter must be able to grasp it effectively. The standard SCAR forend forces Warfighters to compromise on the way they shoot as well as their choice of accessories. There should be no need for such a compromise, so KDG set out to make a change.

You can buy any number of ‘cheese grater’ Picatinny forearm extensions to bolt on in the hopes of increasing effectiveness. However, by adding the MREX forearm, you have the certainty of doing so. The shooter will have room not just for desired accessories, but also more area to comfortably grip the rifle. Changing the barrel on a SCAR while using other ‘furniture’ systems can be a difficult ordeal. Where other receiver extensions fail the MREX succeeds by allowing quick change of different barrel assemblies. KDG offers three lengths to accommodate standard and short barrels, and offer negative space mounting options in MLOK and the KDG standardized modular rail system.

The MREX is also compatible with FN’s MK-13 EGLM grenade launcher with the MREX Grenade Launcher accessory kit.

With the MREX, a shooter need not adapt shooting technique to properly use a properly equipped SCAR. The weapon itself is changed to suit individual needs and is done with engineering grace and precision. The MREX solution adds minimal weight to the firearm; what it does add is minimal and well balanced. It increases the accessory capability, improving proper placement and increasing weapon ergonomics, for instance by offering a rail step-down in front of the BUIS to mount lights and lasers. Mounting your PEQ here not only tucks it away with a very low profile, but also reduces the height over bore axis reducing the offset of your IR laser illuminator.

We are confident you will be astonished at how different an MREX-equipped weapon shoots and feels. Watch for this and other innovative KDG products coming soon.

Kinetic Development Group Launches…Now

Monday, January 12th, 2015

Today, Kinetic Development Group (kineticdg.com) was launched simultaneously with this exclusive Soldier Systems Daily announcement. KDG was founded by some of the key executive sales and development team members that left LWRC International in the spring of 2014. Dave Loeser, Darren Mellors and AJ Lafferty were determined to build a company by supplanting the type of culture that was responsible for so much of their collective success. They wanted to preserve the momentum or “Kinetic” energy they had as a team with the goal of bringing the highest quality, most innovative firearms accessories and solutions to the top end of the market.

KDG - Outdoor 1

KDG’s goals are focused on answers to problems with small arms, not answers to the questions not asked. “We are purposely avoiding the overcrowded AR market as we believe we, our former company, and hundreds of other AR manufacturers have evolved that platform about as far as it can go,” said Darren Mellors, Managing Member of KDG. “The focus will start on underserved products like the FN SCAR and HK 416/MR series. We have started to improve these two European weapons families to meet the needs of the American shooters, Warfighters and Law Enforcement Officers. Identifying problems and engineering the best solutions are very intuitive to us. I am not only a managing member of KDG….I am also a customer! That is the standard by which we judge our products and service. Do I need this, and do I want one? ”

KDG-MREX-Studio

The first weapon they have dedicated to improving was the SCAR L/H by FNH. Their SCAR products are called MREX Solutions (Modular Receiver Extension). A sneak peak of the MREX with MLOK is pictured.

KDG has a formula; often manufacturers release products months if not years before the product is ready for sale. KDG commits to release products when they are tested and ready for market, period. “The end user, dealers, and small businesses were responsible for the largest most explosive advancement in small arms design, accessories and standardization in history,” said Mellors. “That is why we are partnering with the best commercial dealers whom have driven that evolution.” AJ Lafferty added, “….part of my job is to identify the best dealers in the country that share our values and culture, and sell complimentary quality products and services. We want them to share in our success.”

“Our History of success developing products in the US commercial market, has proven relevant overseas, and we plan to continue to develop an international distributor network. I believe the market will be impressed with what they will see coming from Kinetic down the road.” said David Loeser, Managing partner.
