CANSEC 2017 – Regitex and Logistik Unicorp Introduce Combat Uniform Made From Hemp Fibers

Hemp was long used for rope as well as to produce cloth but out society dropped its use due to the plant’s other use as an illicit drug. However, in recent times, there has been some reintroduction of hemp cloth. While hemp fabrics have taken off in the jeans industry, Canadian form Logistik Unicorp, in conjunction with their subsidiary Regitex, have undertaken some exploration of the material’s use for combat uniforms.

As you can see, the fabric accepts printing very well and evaluations show the material to be quite durable. Additionally, the manufacturing process produces much less waste than syntehtics.

Interesting. I don’t know if hemp is breathable, but if it is, I can live with the jokes about us trying to smoke our uniforms if they are going to more comfortable then the current material for the hot and humid summer months.

“Hemp’s superior absorbency, due to its porous nature, means that it is very breathable and quick drying. Hemp can absorb up to 20% its own weight while still feeling dry to the touch (vs. polyester, which can absorb a maximum of 6%). This is important in the case of any fabric that is in contact with human skin, such as sheets, as perspiration is rapidly absorbed. It feels cooler in summer yet during cool weather, air which is trapped in the fibers is warmed by the body, making it naturally warm.”

Hemp makes so much more sense than cotton, it isn’t even funny. Breathable, get’s softer while staying strong.

The fact we haven’t done it is a mystery. Must be the Illuminati at work.

Logistik Unicorp is on to something.

You can blame old school tobacco companies for working to push hemp out of American circulation. It is way easier to have your competitor pushed out of circulation via legislation than it is to actually compete with them.

Since I can’t post a pic, I’ll just link to this little goodie I picked up a while back 😉

Kidding aside, hemp is fantastic fiber for field use.

Would like to know how durable exactly. More durable than 100% ripstop cotton, 65/35 PoCo, 50/50 NyCo…?
