The ADS booth contained numerous technologies, including the Mark 153, Shoulder-launched, Multi-purpose Assault Weapon Mod 2.
Weighing in at 16 pounds, the system consisted of the MK153 Mod 0 rocket launcher, MK3 high explosive, dual purpose (HEDP) encased rocket, MK4 practice rocket and the MF 217, 9mm spotting cartridge. Additionally, there are High Explosive Anti-Armor (HEAA) and Follow-Through Grenade (FTG) warheads. The 80s-era 9mm spotting rifle has been replaced with a Modular Ballistic Sight (MBS).
SMAW Mod 2 is manufactured in Lynchburg, VA by Wegmann, USA. The MBS electronics are by L-3. ADS is the System Integrator.

Looking for new customers after the USMC announced they’re planning to adopt the “Goose”
There have been articles stating the USMC is phasing out the SMAW however no “requirements” paperwork has been generated or passed down to the PM. As you all know programs take a very long time before fielding. The Goose is probably 5-6 years before fielding. The MOD2’s testing exceeded the performance specs. set forth by the USMC. A huge improvement is the addition of the MBS (Modular Ballistic Sight) and the elimination of the 9mm spotting scope. Resulting in a weight reduction. This weapon is a huge improvement over the MOD0.
What happened to Raytheon’s “serpent”?
So why did the USMC have a different AT than other branches? Couldn’t the Carl G fill this role or the new M4 version?
Now assaultmen can no longer attempt kills with the spotting rifle
That just made me laugh.
