FirstSpear Friday Focus: Tactical Hand Warmer

With frigid temps dropping in January, don’t let your mitts get cold. This is an iconic OG cold weather piece from FS that’s mission-specific, look no further than the FS Tactical Hand-Warmer. The Tactical Hand-Warmer is a perfect way to keep your fingers warm on a cold day. The fleece-lined interior is soft and retains heat exceedingly well.

The Tactical Hand-Warmer can be attached directly to your platform or worn on its own. When not needed, the included attachment strap stows inside. An attached storage bag allows the system to be packed up small and tight. The Tactical Hand-Warmer has additional pockets to hold “air activated hand warmers” or other essential items. Cuffs allow for changes in length.

Stay tuned next week, as we’ll be launching our new technology and we’ll have a lineup of new products for SHOT Show 2022.

I used one deer hunting in Michigan this year. It was light enough to forget it was on my body, but the wind seemed to blow right through it at times. It was definitely better than nothing though it could probably use a little more insulation at the cost of making it bulkier.

That’s the compromise with any of the “tactical” hand warmers. They’re usually slimmer, have some cool attachment points and other well thought out features, but the stuff on the rack at Cabelas or Bass Pro is usually significantly warmer. Of course, at the cost of being bulkier/heavier. But usually cheaper. But also usually made offshore. Compromises galore.

I have had one for a full hunting season. Primarily in tree stands, where I have an old BFG splitminus rigged with older molle pouches. This goes on over my clothing/harness and is the only thing except my Bow/Rifle/Muzzie that goes up into tree with me. My thoughts…
Pros: attachment options (can be mated to a variety of platforms, or just strapped around you with provided strap). Packs SMALL into provided sack (softball size). Plenty warm if you throw a few hand warmers into it. Very durable, doesn’t grab thorns, briars, etc (will likely last many many years.). Its nice to be able to go with no or minimal gloves.
Cons: It is pricier compared to some other options… but not terribly so. Not thick with insulation as other options. Doesn’t “seal” perfectly if wind is coming in end on, but it has to be REALLY windy from the perfect direction for this to be an issue. Not a big deal to me, plus a “tight” seal could make it difficult to get my hands out easily if a deer sneaks in close before I have noticed. I may get a second to rig specifically for range work and another separate for hunting. Have to sneak by the wife though;)
