SOF Select 25 – Strategic Sciences

This photo, taken in the Strategic Sciences booth, combines two things that readers find fascinating: the Knight’s Armament Co Light Assault Machine Gun in 5.56mm and Strategic Science’s Multi Function Muzzle Device, a new suppressor technology developed in conjunction with the Irregular Warfare Technology Support Directorate.

The Canadian arm of the company, Millbrook Strategic Sciences Inc, has signed a deal with CANSOFCOM for the devices and here in the US they’ve been trying them out on every NATO weapon (including those under development) they can get their hands on. Available in multiple calibers from 5.56 up to 50 BMG, expect to see a lot of these floating around soon.

I get it, there’s probably a lot of good engineering going into these devices…but the form factor, my god…that’s bad.

It looks to be 3D printed…will be interesting to see what else is going on with these.

    NTX-

The info regarding performance for our suppressors will be published hopefully by the end of the year. The results are undeniable. The form factor is a result of the necessary function to reduce flash, recoil, and sound in a manner which has never been accomplished.

I hold no ill will towards your initial reaction but if the results are there- perhaps the question is- why have all other suppressors been round when this design is a leap ahead in performance?

Constant Recoil + state of the art suppressor = I love everything in this picture

Hoping the design succeeds and becomes available on the civilian side as well; the specs shared in the past on SSD (especially in regards to recoil reduction) were really impressive.

The contours of this muzzle device kind of make me think of the muzzle device on the Russian AN-94.

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot one of these pretty extensively. Having used/own most of the big suppressor company offerings I was VERY impressed with these. Low to no noticeable gas to the shooter and a good tone. On the issued URGI 10.5 upper we were shooting it made the gun shoot crazy flat. Talking to the reps it sounds like it won’t be a cheap can but will be the next one I buy.

I know a thing or two about these. I promise, these are the future for DoD and the Alphabets. It will be many years before we see them commercially, IF ever.
