Newington, N.H. (July 18, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to introduce the commercial variant of the U.S. Army’s M17 official service pistol called the P320-M17.
After one of the most rigorous and highly competitive review processes in the history of military firearms the SIG SAUER M17 was awarded the Modular Handgun System (MHS) contract for the U.S. Army. The M17 is a P320-based platform, and was selected for its uniquely innovative modularity, uncompromising performance, and unmatched capability. The P320-M17 closely follows the specifications of the U.S. Army’s M17.
“It was truly an honor for SIG SAUER to be chosen as the U.S. Army’s choice with the M17. When the selection was announced, civilian interest in the pistol was immediate,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, SIG SAUER, Inc. “We are proud to bring this P320-M17 to the marketplace to meet the substantial civilian interest, and the high demand, to own the pistol the Army uses as well as the other branches of the U.S. Military.”
The P320-M17 is a 9mm, striker-fired pistol and comes with two 17-round magazines. The pistol features a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract, and black controls just like the pistols currently being shipped to the U.S. Army; it comes equipped with a SIGLITE front night sight and removable Night Sight rear plate. The P320-M17 features a coyote-tan carry-length grip module, available in three sizes, and comes standard with a manual safety. Non-manual safety P320-M17 pistols will be shipped at a later date.

What a great deal; $1,100 for 95% of the same pistol as Uncle Sam pays only $250 for it. Plus commercial market doesn’t get the same high tech anti-corrosion coatings as Uncle Sam or the locking grip frame.
Sig, why no after market M17 grip frames? I want to be able to buy one, stipple the hell out of it and put it on my M17 next year when my unit is issued them.
What gives Sig? Sell me a 100% no compromise M17. Grip frame, coatings, markings and all. Keep you silly certificate and challenge coin ( I have real ones I don’t need to buy any) and just give me exactly what Uncle Sam has.
How does “MSRP: $768.00” become $1,100. If anything, the retail price will be discounted from the MSRP.
The P320-M17 with the MSRP of $768 is just an M17 lookalike. It lacks the coatings and only allows the mounting of the SIG Romeo1 red dot, not the Deltapoint.
What you’re looking for is the M17-commemorative with the MSRP of $1122, which should the exact same gun as the military M17, except with worse quality control.
Dont forget the extra $195 for the collectors case…what a bargain.
Generally, collector’s items aren’t bargains. I’d tell you to be happy it’s an optional purchas item, but then you weren’t really interested in buying a gun anyway, were you?

The M17 will soon be allowed for Military CMP Excellence In Competitions (EIC) matches that is why I want one. It will be a hell of a lot better to shoot in competition than a stock M9.

I’m sure if you put in an order for 10,000+ M17s SIG would be more than happy to sell for you at $250 a handgun.
I’m confused, where does it say you don’t get the same specs as the USGI M17? If anything I would expect it to be the same, just look at Sigs MK25 pistol. Same specs as the Navy version.
When they unvieled this gun, they specifically called out that it does not include “the special coatings on some of the internal parts that help it maintain lubricity under harsh conditions”
This would be a cool purchase.
Well, this is one of the ways Sig recoups their low cost per pistol to the military.
The M17 is stupid, an extra 0.8 inches of sight radius/velocity over the M18, which has been adopted in its stead by the other services.
Both magazines work with either, so the M17 slide assembly just seems redundant.
But at the cost per unit I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Sig Whore’d out. Safety’s on secondary’s are for amateurs and folks too afraid to pull their piece in a controlled environment to insert into another redundant device….the clearing barrel!

110% PR… Sig better start getting it together. They need to get back to being a brilliant firearms engineering company rather than w/e this is – it’s like a video game company – release an unfinished, rushed product and patch it after the public starts paying for it. Pretty soon they’re going to have a beta testing program for people who want to pay for something truly unfinished. Oh wait they do – the US Military!! Thank you for you service -_-

You are not going to be in the ocean for 96 hours nor will you pay the extra money for the coating.
