Someone needs to add a red transparency the plastic so you can use it at night without corbra commander spotting you.
A red transparency won’t make a difference, the whole deal about red lights not being so bright at night is just a myth. The real reason behind using a red lens on a flash light at night is in order to preserve your night vision, that’s it. When reading a map, or whatever, at night in tactical situation I was taught to cover yourself with a poncho or something to block the light while doing so because you’ll see that red light just as brightly and clearly as you would a white light.
If cobra commander is that close to you to see your GPS light up in the jungle then you’ve got bigger problems than being lost.
Have you used the backlight on a fortrex before? It’s very very bright. Anyways just a thought.
I haven’t owned the Foretrex, but I’ve owned about six of the “Nokia-phone-sized” Garmin GPSs over the years. I’ve never known their displays to be backlit unless you specifically press a button to turn on the backlight. Also, red gels are easy enough to come by. Anyone can make their electronics more disciplined by adding to them, but if they make the plastic red they’ll be excluding the majority of people who don’t want or need that feature permanently.
