Some H&K G28 Pr0n for You

20120120-171024.jpg

H&K displayed an example of the new German Army automatic Sniper rifle, the G28. Intended for use in the rifle squad, it was developed as a replacement for the G3 DMR. Although there was a G27 model which was a 417, the Bundeswehr went ahead with the G28 which is based on the 417 but with a steel receiver. This, combined with the full length forend brings it in at a little over 16 lbs. Unfortunately, the rail sections do not extend all the way to the end of the forend.

The stock is a bit different than the 417s in both style and function. The integral cheek riser is adjustable and will reciprocate when you charge the rifle. Additionally, the action is very smooth and it was simple to charge. Interestingly, while the safety is ambidextrous and the upper receiver integrates grooves on both sides to lock the charging handle in place, the weapons comes with two charging handles, a left and right to accommodate all shooters. The buttplate is also adjustable for length of pull.

The dust cover is plastic.

One interesting feature of the scope is the T1 mount.

H&K informed us that the are currently no plans to import the G28. However, there are a few of the accessories They’d probably like to see brought in for integration into the 417.

please get a better camera every time you guys post up your own pictures of items you have, they are always of poor quality and really grainy. other than that i love the website!

You do realize that these are taken on a show floor using an iPad. If you’ve ever been to a trade show you know that the lighting sucks. There are plenty of websites that run around taking photos of stuff that they have no idea what it is or does. This isn’t a website for photo collectors.

You get it here first. We don’t wait around til next week, and we don’t post things that we don’t understand.

@Scott; it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt. Just saying

    • Mark says:

I don’t think expecting a media web site to be equipped with better photography capabilities than an iPad an extreme request.

His point is valid. If you go to a trade show and don’t have the forethought to bring even the cheapest point and shoot camera with you…

      • BrettW says:

Then spend thousands and go the trade show yourself.

SSD does a great job of putting a lot of sweat equity into making sure you get the breaking news on kit not a photograph for the cover of time magazine.

who cares about the picture quality, they have fantastic articles and the pics they post are good but they are only to enhance the article…

btw love all the shot show articles, thanks SSD 😀

Yikes. Rifle looks sexy, but seems a bit inferior to other options. Why are they still trying to go with putting a RDS on top of the scope instead of canted to the side? It’s ridiculous to think that anyone wants to shoot by completely removing their cheekweld and lifting their head up instead of just rotating the rifle and maintaining cheek weld.

Rail sections that don’t extend all the way? to the forend? Why does the forend continue then? 16 pounds, unloaded? Was this rifle at all designed for combat or just to look cool on the range?

  5. G3 says:

Yes, HK and the Bundeswehr call it G28.The standard HK417 is the G27, which failed to meet the demanded requirements. The german army never used a PSG1.The G28 is supposed to replace the upgraded G3 DMR rifles in afghanistan, which have been brought back into service, after german soldiers complained about the lacking penetration power of the 5,56mm round. The colour of the G28 is the same basic camo colour used with german africa corps in WWII…..regards from germany.

I wonder why they decided to make the dust cover plastic. Seems like a poor choice for such a thin piece that see’s a lot of movement. I was always told to close the dust cover after chambering a round, so that the bolt carrier is still protected, and that rearward motion of the BCG would pop it open prior to ejection. Cant imagine a plastic dust cover standing up to mush of that…

  7. Scott says:

Ssd- yes I have been to trade shows and was at shot show last year. I didn’t know you guys where using an iPad. Wasn’t trying to bash you guys, just making a simple statement.
Bob-your statement on fools only enhances your lack of ability to show your intelligence. You should have keep your mouth shut, bc now your the village idiot

Anyways, articles and write ups are much appreciated.

  8. Tim Thomas says:

Wonder how the guys will like humping that 16 pounder through the mountains…?

I have followed your blog from the beginning. I always enjoy the content but Scott is right you guys have to improve the quality of your photos. Yes, trade show lighting is not good but that is really no excuse for poor photos.
