Oversized profile? Will a BAD lever fit over it?

  2. Matt says:

Looks like a decent, if unnecessary product…but WTF is a “more tactical manipulation?”

  3. John says:

    Dang, why all the haters?

Badger Ordnance is a top-tier company making well-made and thought-through parts.

They aren’t flashy and noisy like a lot of other companies, but they’ve been quietly working with military groups that you don’t even know exist for quite some time. Ask me how I know.

If Badger put out a product, even if it seems “same ol”, then it at least deserves a closer look.

Innovation doesn’t necessarily mean that you come out with a new product. In today’s market, innovation can be a product finally done well.

They don’t seem to have it on their website yet, so I don’t know the specs, but it looks like the latch sits a little farther out than most that I’ve seen. It looks like it’s beveled on the top and sides, so I wonder if it will fit in the recesses of some billet receivers.

Thanks Marty for doing these! They are kick ass!

I always figured if I wanted a bigger bolt stop I’d take a BAD lever and dremel off the lever part. Or just buy a Seekins bolt stop.

  6. Mike Nomad says:

Almost there. I’m all for more tactile on the bolt stop. Which is why I use Armalite’s.

Badger Ordinance does indeed make great stuff. Another swap I make is to drop in their ambi selector switch.

  7. Nick says:

This looks like a welcome addition for left-handed people who manipulate the bolt stop with their index fingers. Believe it or not the AR platform is extremely easy to manipulate left-handed even in stock configuration.

    • Mike Nomad says:

I am one of them, and that is why I use the bolt stop from ArmaLite.

Your observation on how easy a stock AR is to use by left-handers is one of the reasons why I get mine from Stag: For a design that was made for right-handed people, it sure is a nicely suited for left-handers.

And because Stag uses a standard right-hand lower, the port cover swings from the top, which always made more sense to me.

I know a bit about running an AR and know enough to know I don’t know everything. I said unnecessary because I have not noticed any real problem with the standard-sized part with regards to releasing it. I do think the process of locking the bolt back requires more attention and a better/bigger interface…which this doesn’t fix as far as I can tell.

I see that “more tactical manipulation” was a typo (not my misread) in the initial post. “More tactile” makes sense and may be a legitimate claim. “More tactical” sounded like ninja-seal-delta marketing fluff. All things being equal, I would consider this part on a new build, but would not be concerned with “enhancing” any of the ARs I already have. I know Badger makes good products, but that isn’t the argument here.

I’ll close with this: most guys who comment, particularly about gun stuff, don’t know as much as they think they do…and that carries over to “better mousetraps” and whiz bang gizmos added to guns because, you know, stock can’t possibly fill my needs and I ain’t got time to train. Little incremental improvements can make a difference, but IME those differences occur at the high end of the skill level. Often these add-ons create an unintended consequence mechanically or when manipulations require modification under stress.

I apologize if my first comment seemed snarky, but that seems to be contagious around here.

    YMMV.

Thanks for all of the feedback thus far, folks.

Matt, I agree completely regarding your assessment of the description; it was in fact a typo. I get tired of the ninja marketing fluff as well, and since I write the descriptions, if I ever devolve to that level of hype I hope someone will have the self-respect to fire me.

Personally I run my ARs as stock as possible, and agree that the number one key to mastering manipulation is regular and continued training. The EBS is definitely not a necessity. The standard bolt stop has, and continues to do its job as designed.

The EBS is an option for those that desire a larger profile bolt stop, and is especially beneficial for left handers using the their index finger for releasing the bolt (as noted by several others above). Additionally, it is billet machined and hardened, so it does offer superior strength and durability for the end user that feature is applicable to.

Again, thanks for the all of the feedback. All formalities aside, it is beneficial to hear what potential end users/consumers have to say; be it positive, negative, well thought out or otherwise.

I appreciate your response. The new product looks like a better overall execution of the basic part. I hadn’t considered lefties, but do see how the slightly larger surface could benefit index finger use. I thank you for not using hyperbole to sell products.
