Former Police Chief, Technology Veteran Gary Blair Joins Spirit of Blue Board of Directors.

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – July 19, 2017 – The Spirit of Blue Foundation is pleased to announce that Gary Blair has joined its Board of Directors and is serving in the role of Board Chairman.  Blair has a rich blend of military, law enforcement, corporate and non-profit experience that makes him a perfect fit for this role with the Foundation.  As Chairman of the Board, he will lead the organization through a new round of strategic planning, development of the Board and will spearhead the fundraising effort to ensure the stability and longevity of the Foundation.

“For the majority of my career I have had the opportunity to work in and with many agencies in the law enforcement community. My passion has always been to support, enable and protect the safety of the men and women of law enforcement. This role enables me to continue that passion,” commented Gary Blair.

Gary Blair began his career in the United States Air Force Security Forces.  Upon being discharged he started his law enforcement career as a police officer in the State of Ohio.  He rose to the rank of Chief of Police.  Gary then took his expertise in organized crime investigations to the insurance industry, creating anti-fraud programs for insurers in the United States, Canada and Europe.  He then served as a senior executive for three property casualty companies in the areas of claims and operations.  He returned to government service in the State of Michigan as a Division Director for the Michigan State Police and then CIO for Michigan’s Public Protection Agencies with the department of Information Technology.  Additionally, he worked at Oracle and Hewlett Packard developing and implementing technology solutions for law enforcement.  Gary currently consults through his firm Way Forward LLC, serves on the board of the Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan, and now chairs the Spirit of Blue Foundation Board of Directors.

“Very quickly I realized what a resource and wonderful leader Gary is,” commented Ryan T. Smith, Executive Director of the Spirit of Blue.  “He certainly asks for results and expects you to deliver, but at the same time he cares for the people he works with.  At his core, though, he is a police officer and it is easy to see that the issues that affect our nation’s law enforcement officers are important to him.  I sincerely appreciate his willingness to lead our organization into our next phase of growth and impact for this community.”

Since 2011, the Spirit of Blue Foundation has awarded 63 grants in 28.  The grants have varied from patrol rifles, body armor, riot control gear, AED’s, K9’s, forensic software, flashlights, Police/Youth Dialogue training, night vision optics, LED flares, ballistic helmets and self-contained breathing apparatus.  To learn more about the Spirit of Blue, or make a donation, visit www.spiritofblue.org.

SCUBAPRO Partners with Task Force Dagger Foundation

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

Task Force Dagger Foundation is excited to announce our partnership with Johnson Outdoors Diving LLC – SCUBAPRO supporting the Task Force Dagger Foundation (TFD)
Task Force Dagger Foundation is excited to announce our partnership with Johnson Outdoors Diving LLC – SCUBAPRO supporting the Task Force Dagger Foundation (TFD) in their diving operations as part of the Joint Recovery Team (JRT). The Joint Recovery Team is made up of the Department of POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), East Carolina University Marine Archeology Department and the Task Force Dagger Foundation. The Mission of JRT is to map; document; search; and, hopefully; recover and repatriate an American Service Member(s) Killed In Action (KIA) Body Not Recovered (BNR) from World War II.

The purpose of these expeditions is two-fold: (1) Keep the promise that we make to our service men and women defending our country and that is to bring them home should they make the ultimate sacrifice. (2) Identify the most severely wounded, ill, or injured Special Operations Forces (SOF) service members from the US Special Operations Command, who are having issues making the transition from the military to civilian life, and provide them with a real world MISSION. Why is this important? This provides the SOF service member a deeper PURPOSE for his or her life. This will enable them to FOCUS on something bigger than themselves.

Mark Stephens, Executive Board Member, said, “From my initial discussions with SCUBAPRO, I knew they recognized the importance and gravity of these missions.” Working with Task Force Dagger Foundation through this process include: Joe Stella, SCUBAPRO President; Edward Rasmussen, Global Government Manager; and Richelle Pizl, Customer Service Manager. They have been amazing. They are truly part of the team.

Joe Stella, SCUBAPRO President states: “We are honored to partner with such a noble organization that is not only providing vital support to service members and their families today – but to those that served long ago. Task Force Dagger’s critical missions are completely aligned with SCUBAPRO’s long-standing commitment to support those who serve, and we are proud to be a part of the team.”

Our first mission will take place in Saipan at the end of July thru mid-August 2018. The TFD portion of the team is made up of a joint group of Special Operations members (Army, Navy, and Air Force Special Operations). The TFD leadership is Keith David, TFD Managing Director; Greg Knauer, TFD Operations Manager; Terry Schappert, TFD Ambassador; and Mark Stephens, TFD Executive Board Member. The TFD team has a mix of visible and invisible injuries. With the support of SCUBAPRO, we will be able to fully equip the team with state of the art gear to address their individual needs while conducting the mission safely, efficiently, and effectively.

Without your donations, we cannot achieve our Mission supporting the US Special Operations Command’s service members and their families.

The Task Force Dagger Foundation’s three core programs: (1) Immediate Needs, (2) SOF Health Initiatives, and (3) Recreational Therapy Adaptive Events provide resources and healing for Special Operations Forces (SOF) members and families. Our SOF Health Initiatives provides program recipients care and treatment that is designed to treat the problem and not the symptom through functional medicine and other treatment modalities that are holistic in nature. Task Force Dagger Foundation supports Army Green Berets, Rangers, Civil Affairs, Military Information Support Operations, Army Special Mission Units, Navy SEALs, Air Force Special Tactics/Operations and Marine Special Operations and their families. These are some of the units that comprise the US Special Operations Command.

Since 2009, we have supported USSOCOM with over $3.5M dollars of support to 3,100 SOF service members and their families. The Task Force Dagger Foundation’s overhead rate is 10.91%.

Task Force Dagger Foundation Recognizes Tracfone Support for Special Operations Service Members

Funds Will Be Used to Support Special Operators’ Family Needs Not Fully Covered By Military, Dept. of Defense, Veterans Affairs or Insurance; Hundreds of Thousands of Vets Already Served by TracFone’s SafeLink Service Under Federal Lifeline Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. and MIAMI – June 21, 2018 – The nonprofit Task Force Dagger Foundation (TFDF) is announcing new support from TracFone Wireless, Inc. (TracFone), America’s top no-contract cell phone service provider, to help meet the special needs United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) service members and their families.

Charles “Keith” David, managing director, Task Force Dagger Foundation said: “We respond to immediate needs that are short fuse and critical in nature. When we receive a request for assistance, we respond within two hours or less to get the needed support into the hands of the service member and his or her family. The needs that are covered are so varied that they are hard to describe and include everything from flights, lodging, rental cars, and other items too numerous to describe. If it is requested by the Command, then is is a verified need and we take action. TracFone deserves recognition for agreeing to step up and help those who have served our nation.”

Under the federal Lifeline program, the SafeLink Wireless service provided by TracFone reaches hundreds of thousands of the more than one million veterans now enrolled in the Lifeline program. TracFone is among the many consumer, senior, and military support voices today opposing a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposal that would end Lifeline service for up to 1.3 million vets.

Where will the TracFone money provided to the Task Force Dagger Foundation go?

The nonprofit provides programs and service in three major areas:

Immediate Needs – TFDF assists Special Operations personnel and their families with needs that are not covered by the Military, Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, or insurance. Our average response time from request to support is two hours.

SOF Health Initiatives – TFDF assists Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel and their families with care and treatment focusing on how to heal the person versus treatment where providing prescription medication is the answer. TFDF works with various organizations on ways to treat Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and to reduce the number of veteran suicides.

Rehabilitative Therapy Events – TFDF sponsors activities that foster a sense of well-being, offer encouragement, and assist the service member’s rehabilitation and recovery from wounds and injuries sustained while serving our country.

Propper Donates Portion of Memorial Day Week Proceeds to USO of Missouri

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

St. Charles, MO — For the second year in a row, Missouri-based Propper International teamed up with the USO of Missouri to donate a portion of online sales in honor of Memorial Day and to further the USO’s mission to “strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.”

This year’s total of $5,181 included proceeds from sales during the week leading up to Memorial Day and the holiday weekend.

“As a Missouri-based company, donating to the USO of Missouri was an easy decision,” said John Negrau, VP, Marketing & eCommerce for Propper. “For over half a century, Propper has proudly supported our fighting men and women. It made sense to support current active duty personnel by donating in honor of the fallen.”

Each state’s USO branches operate independently and rely solely upon local support.

“Propper’s support and generosity is very much appreciated. Without support such as theirs, we wouldn’t be able to continue to serve the over 270,000 military and their families that we do,” said Christine Trotter, Development Director for USO of Missouri.
