Stubble & ‘Stache: Beard Care That Cares

Started by Nicholas Karnaze, a U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations (MARSOC) combat veteran, Stubble & ‘Stache is a company that currently sells a face moisturizer and beard conditioner made in the USA from natural ingredients. 15% of all company profits go towards charities aggressively assisting veterans suffering from PTSD, depression, TBI, and other mental wounds. Currently, the funding is going towards the MARSOC Foundation, The Pathway Home, Inc., and The Warfighter Foundation, with more organizations to be added.

The company has set up an Indiegogo page, looking to secure funding to expand their product line. Further products they hope to introduce include Deep Beard Conditioner, a Beard-Friendly Moisturizer with Sunscreen, and a Beard Styling Balm.

C.B. Colby’s Take On The M16

The type of warfare engaged in by the Special Forces requires something special in weapons as well. The new Colt AR-15, known as the M16, is just that. This weapon can be fired either semiautomatic (as fast as the trigger is pulled) or fully automatic (firing as long as the trigger is held back). It weights 6.31 pounds, which is very light for any weapon with its capabilities. Its cartridges are also very light, weighing 8 ounces for a full 20 rounds. The caliber is .223 (about as big as a .22 but many times more powerful) and the full-jacketed, boat-tailed bullets have a velocity of 3,250 feet per second. They can penetrate a car from rear to front, through bumper, trunk, back seat, front seat, fire wall and out the radiator. Not even the motor block of a vehicle will stop them. The M16 fires at the rate of 750 rounds per minute from bipod or shoulder. The muzzle does not rise when on fully automatic, and the weapon can fire various grenades 200 yards with ease. With a telescope sight it can fire all shots in a 12-inch bulseye at 500 yards. It can be fully dismantled with the tip of one of its own cartridges and its own firing pin. This is the weapon held by the man on the cover.

An SSD Eagle Court of Honor

As many of you know, I am Scouter and was active in Boy Scouting growing up, having earned the rank of Eagle in 1981. Only 2 Million young men earned the rank of Eagle Scout during its first 100 years of existence from 1912-2012. It gives me great pride to honor one of our readers today who earned his rank earlier this month and I can think of few better days to do it.

It takes years of dedication to complete the Trail to Eagle. To attain the rank of Eagle Scout, Joel had to:

-Earn 5 other ranks before attaining Eagle Scout
-Earn at least 21 Merit Badges (12 Eagle badges and 9 other badges)
-Master a wide variety of Scoutcraft skills including Camping, Fire-Building, First-Aid, Knot Tying and Lashing, Use of Map and Compass, Cooking over an open fire, and how to raise, lower and care for the American Flag
-Teach other Scouts these same skills
-Maintain Physical Fitness
-Hold numerous leadership positions
-Plan and supervise other Scouts in a service project to benefit his community
-And last, but most certainly not least, live by the Scout Oath and Law

These are all skills that will serve you well throughout your life.

Coolest Christmas Presents Of 2013

For Christmas, I received copies of both ‘Special Forces the U.S. Army’s Experts in Unconventional Warfare’ and ‘Survival Training in Our Armed Services’ by C.B. Colby, two of the many books Colby wrote about military training, the US Government, and other subjects. I remember reading these in the school library as a kid and they definitely influenced my decision to serve a career in the military.
