Tactical Tailor Founder’s Day Sale Extended Through May 15

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

I’m happy to say that Tactical Tailor has extended their Founder’s Day sale through May 15th. Their founder, Logan Coffey, was a friend of mine and a fine person. I’m glad I had a chance to know him and I’m just as proud that his family has kept up his legacy of building quality products, at an affordable price point, here in the USA. During the sale, they are offering 15% off all Tactical Tailor manufactured gear.

MoH Warfighter – Vickers

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Electronic Arts just announced Vickers Tactical as their latest partner for Medal of Honor Warfighter. LAV had this to say about the partnership.

I am proud to be onboard the Medal of Honor Warfighter development team – after getting some time to hang out with the crew I can tell you first hand they are not only committed to giving users a dynamite game but also to representing the Special Operations Warfighter in a positive way and giving back to the SOF community in the best way possible; supporting the families of the fallen. My hats off to the Danger Close team – keep the faith brothers!
– Larry Vickers

LAV also built a custom 1911 for the game.

The Vickers 1911 began life as a parts set from Wilson Combat, and in fact, they were instrumental in helping me get the gun built in a very short time frame. I essentially set the pistol up to what I felt a state of the art, serious use 1911 should be in the hands of a seasoned operator – a guy like me, who cut his teeth on the 1911, and wants a combat handgun with the latest improvements such as an integral light rail, night sights, and bulletproof components. I put some Vickers Tactical logos on it to help set it apart, including one on the custom VZ grips. With a durable matte black finish, the pistol turned out great!

How to look like you’re Special Forces

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

One thing this excellent article fails to mention is the beard…you have to grow a big beard, and you should grow your hair at least until it touches the top of your ears (see #3, which is good but could be expanded imho).

How to look like you’re Special Forces

by Anonymous, courtesy of BusinessWeek.com

1. First, go to EMS and buy the biggest watch you can find. A foreign special services officer asked me once whether we recruited guys based on the size of their watches or whether we bought everyone a big watch as a reward after training.

2. Cut the sleeves off your shirt. It’s hot in the Middle East, and guys would cut the sleeves off their operational uniforms. It makes sense in certain situations, but I had to tell my team, “Look, I know it’s hot, but I need you to meet safety parameters. You’re gonna get scratched.”

3. Make it your boss’s job to tell you to get a haircut and a shave.

4. Wear sunglasses. Everywhere. I’ll tell my team, “Hey, we’re inside. We can take off our sunglasses.” But they don’t.

5. Keep quiet. The baddest guys I know are also the quietest. The guy who’s talking about doing badass stuff? He’s probably not the biggest badass in the room. It’s a little like that guy on the football team who wears his letterman jacket all the time.

6. Never say “no.” Your first reaction has to be, “Yes, I can do that,” and then you figure out how. If the president asked me to go to the moon tomorrow, I’d say yes. Then I’d say, “I’ll need some training. And someone who can fly a rocket.” — As told to Brendan Greeley

Anonymous led teams in the Middle East and South Asia as a special forces officer.

The 633 Sling from Combat Arms Tactical

Friday, April 13th, 2012

If you’ve been to the PX at Ft. Lewis recently, you’ve seen the Combat Arms Tactical kiosk there. Eric Pena runs Combat Arms Tactical. He was at Darley Defense Day Thursday and Soldier Systems had the opportunity to video his explanation of the sling to some visiting carnivores from 2/75 Rangers and 1ST SFG. Here’s the video:

For more information, contact Duffy Cavanaugh from Darley Defense, Duffy(at)Darley.com, or go direct with Eric on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Combat-Arms-Tactical/160129530675965)

‘The Red Circle’ by Brandon Webb Hits Shelves

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

‘The Red Circle: My Life in the Navy SEAL Sniper Corps and How I Trained America’s Deadliest Marksmen’ just hit shelves. This is former SEAL Brandon Webb’s story of his training, time on the teams as well as his experience as a Sniper instructor. Brandon was Course Manager of the Navy SEAL Sniper Program that trained some of America’s finest and deadliest warriors—including Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle. I just picked up my copy at Barnes & Noble and can’t wait to read it.

MultiCam Materials – LAMBDA NTS

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Every two weeks SSD showcases a different MultiCam print fabric from Duro Textiles LLC. This week, we are covering LAMBDA NTS. MultiCam is a single camouflage pattern designed to help the wearer hide in varied environments, seasons, elevations, and light conditions. After a great deal of commercial success and adoption by elements of US Special Operations Forces, in 2010 MultiCam was selected for use by the US Army as its Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP).

LAMBDA NTS is a high-performance, super smooth fabric designed for technical baselayers. In the past it has been used for cycling jerseys and running tights. It features a high spandex content that dramatically increases stretch and compression properties. Since it was designed for use as a baselayer, it also incorporates anti-microbial protection and moisture wicking properties.

Specs
Finished Width – 58 inches cuttable
Finished Weight – 3.75 oz/yd² approximately
Fiber Content – 92% Microfiber Polyester/8% Spandex

LAMBDA NTS was just released during SHOT Show and is so new that no one has picked it up yet but I think it’s going to make some great T-shirts. But that only makes sense as NTS stands for Next To Skin. I was able to check out a swatch at SHOT Show and it has a very cozy hand. It might also be incorporated as a stretch panel in other garments or perhaps as a torso section for a non-FR, fully printed combat shirt. I can’t wait to see how it’s used.

Duro offers progressive pricing based on the number of yards ordered. For more information on this or any of the full line of MultiCam fabrics visit www.multicamfabric.com or email Galpen_Ben@DuroLink.com.

Glockworx Optic Cut Slides Available from Brownells

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Mounting mini red dot sights on pistols (GLOCKs in particular) has become very popular. Generally, you have to send your slide into a trusted gunsmith to do the cutout and mounting pin work.

Brownells has worked with Glockworx to stock a line of precut slides for the GLOCK 17. Variants are available for the Doctor (also accommodates Burris FastFire), JPoint, RMR as well as a model for standard iron sights. Regardless of sighting system, all versions of the slide feature front and rear cocking serrations, lowered ejection port, and porting above the front slide serrations. The slides are CNC cut aircraft grade 1704, heat treated stainless steel RC44-46 in a Black DLC coating.
