Steven Arango started a GoFundMe page to fund a bust to honor Captain George “Alexi” Whitney, USMC. Captain Whitney graduated from Bates College, cum laude, and then served in the 3rd Marine Reconnaissance Battalion in Anbar, Iraq in 2005. He later joined the CIA, continuing his service. In December 2016, Captain Whitney was killed in action while serving in the CIA during an operation in Afghanistan.

The bust would be created by Colonel Lee Busby, USMC (Ret.), who has sculpted numerous service members who have been killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq. His work can be seen in the following video.

Vuurwaapen Blog Launches GoFundMe Page To Raise Funds For Legal Defense

Thursday, March 31st, 2016

Not long after our story on the Fireclean suit against bloggers Andrew Tuohy and Everett Baker, Vuurwaapen blog launched a fundraising page for their legal defense on the GoFundMe platform.  The odd thing about this is that I’ve read the complaint and Fireclean isn’t suing for assault.

TacHacker – Macropatterned Fourier Camouflage

Sunday, September 6th, 2015

There is currently a GoFundMe campaign to evaluate camouflage patterns.

For this project, we will derive color and Fourier (background environment) data from the urban terrain of our local campus, use them to compose two camouflage patterns, and print both onto fabric. One will be arranged into a branching pattern designed to cut apart and segment the shape of a person, with both a micropattern and a macropattern. The other will be randomized, with a micropattern that contains a wide range of element sizes.

The team conducting the project is based at New Mexico State University and consists of Nate Turner, a physics senior and undergraduate; Joni Cunningham, a physics undergraduate, and Jacob Wright, an engineering physics student with a concentration in electrical engineering.

They’ve laid out a budget but I think the $1000 is a bit tight. However, it’s great to see students investigating camouflage performance. Those interested in contributing visit www.gofundme.com/tm37hdu7

Get Lee To Maine

Lee Deckelman is a former Special Operations Combat Vet/ Security Contractor, and founder of Echelon Grey Foundation, a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) (pending) Charity. The goal of Echelon Grey is to support Veterans and contractors through suicide intervention/prevention and supporting mental health services at home.

While awaiting federal approval for the foundation, Lee has embarked on an Appalachian Trail Thru Hike Mission, with the goal:

“to promote and bring awareness to the public via a mini-documentary/hike along the AT. I feel the environment/ setting is the perfect backdrop for a Global War on Terror Documentary. Over the 4-5 months it will take me to complete the entire hike, I hope to interview 20-30 individuals who volunteer to meet me along the trail, and who represent all the traditional and non-traditional roles Americans serve in overseas”.

Lee is 1/3 of the way to Maine, currently in Northern Virginia, and requires a supplement to his budget to complete the journey.
