Magpul Announces New Armorer’s Tool Series

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Today, Magpul Industries announced their new Magpul Armorer’s Tool Series. Designed as a no-compromise alternative to common gunsmithing tools, the set currently consists of the Armorer’s Wrench and BEV Block, both made in the USA.

MAG535 Armorers Wrench
Armorer’s Wrench

– Solid steel construction w/ grip-enhancing phosphate finish
– Engages both stock and pin-style barrel nuts
– Fits standard size flash hiders
– Installs and removes rifle receiver extensions and carbine castle nuts
– Extended teeth for use with ASAP plates
– Two hammer faces
– Works with 1/2″ torque wrench
– Convenient bottle opener for refreshments (fits both Metric and SAE bottle caps)

The Magpul Armorer’s Wrench is an exceptional product in a number of ways; its design, construction, and intent are a level above what has traditionally been available in a dedicated AR15 assembly and maintenance tool. However, one of the most unique things about the Armorer’s Wrench is the product development process that brought it to market. The Armorer’s Wrench was actually a product requested for Magpul’s internal use and then developed into a commercial product.

At Magpul, our diverse and ever-expanding product line necessitates a tremendous amount of testing. Some of these tests include tolerance of environmental conditions, chemical and UV resistance, and controlled scientific strength testing among many others. As to be expected, one extremely crucial part of our product validation prior to bringing a new item to market is high-volume live fire testing. We are fortunate to have a wide selection of high-quality firearms and access to great industry partners and suppliers to maintain these firing schedules, and the world-class armorers at Magpul stay very busy repairing, refitting, reconfiguring, and maintaining our armory.

The Armorer’s Wrench was purpose designed and built to provide our armory with a tool that would stand up to the volume of use that other tools could not sustain, as well as providing optimized functionality for the tasks it had to perform. The cost and lost time of breaking tools at an unacceptable rate came led to our armorers asking the company to apply our proven design and manufacturing expertise to solving their problem, and the Magpul Armorer’s Wrench is the result. While the cost was slightly higher than some other armorer’s tools, the function and durability more than offset the cost difference. Once the wrench proved its worth in our shop, the Armorer’s Wrench transitioned to a production item with a singular goal made possible by its many functions: to provide the professional, institutional, or recreational armorer the finest commercially available AR15-pattern tool ever produced.

Magpul Industries – New M-LOK Accessories Available

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014

Some exciting news today, as Magpul Industries announced the release of four new M-LOK Accessories. The M-LOK compatible MVG, Offset Light/Optic Mount, QD Sling Mount, and Bipod Mount all offer increased functionality to M-LOK outfitted weapons. The new M-LOK accessories are made in the USA.

M-LOK MVG
M-LOK MVG

The M-LOK MOE Vertical Grip is designed to attach directly to M-LOK compatible handguards and forends, without the use of an additional Picatinny rail. Made from the same high-quality polymer as other Magpul products, the M-LOK MVG features Magpul’s new TPS texture which provides positive control for the shooter. With its shorter length and rounded contours, the M-LOK MVG has been optimized for the use of the ‘thumb break method’ of shooting, although it also functions equally well as a traditional foregrip.

Available in Black and Flat Dark Earth.

Offset Light Optic Mount Aluminum
M-LOK Offset Light/Optic Mount

The M-LOK Offset Light/Optic Mount offers users an ambidextrous platform to mount lights and optics at the 11 and 1 o’clock positions on any M-LOK compatible forend or handguard. It is machined from aluminum and milspec anodized, and has beveled ends and corners to reduce snagging and sharp edges. The M-LOK Offset Light/Optic Mount is compatible with any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny compatible lights or optics. When used with the Magpul Light Mount V-Block and Rings, lights with a diameter of .75 to 1.03 inches can be used on the mount.

QD mount

The M-LOK QD Sling Mount provides a forward attachment point for push-button QD slings, such as the Magpul MS4 sling. Machined from aluminum and milspec anodized, and has beveled ends to reduce snagging, and features an anti-rotation design to prevent swivels from spinning.

Bipod Mount

The M-LOK Bipod Mount accepts bipods with Harris-style stud mounts, allowing their attachment to M-LOK compatible forends and handguards. Machined from aluminum and milspec anodized, the Bipod Mount is low-profile, and thanks to the direct-connect properties of the M-LOK system, the bipod will sit closer to the mounting surface when compared to other adapters. Additionally, the M-LOK Bipod Mount is also compatible with other accessories that attach to traditional sling studs.

As a reminder, M-LOK, which stands for Modular Lock System, is a free licensed platform system developed by Magpul that serves as an evolution of the MOE slot system used since 2007. It functions as a method for hard mounting accessories to a negative space mounting point.

Revisiting The Magpul Ronin

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

013

At SHOT Show 2010, Magpul unveiled the Ronin, a concept motorcycle built around the Buell 1125R. The name comes from the title for a samurai who lost his master, an appropriate name for the bike given the discontinuation of the Buell line by Harley Davidson. The unique design of the Ronin included a custom monoshock linkage suspension system, front-mounted radiator, unitized handlebar assembly, new ram air intake, cast aluminum tail section, and high-flow exhaust system, features which enhanced the bike’s ride and decreased the total weight by 54lbs from stock. This concept gained enough interest that Magpul decided to expand production to 47 bikes, paying tribute to ‘The 47 Ronin’ of Japanese folklore.

IMG_7853

Since the initial concept bike, the Ronin has understandably received some changes. The production Ronin is sharper and more distinct in appearance when compared to the concept bike. Additionally, on the production bike, many of the items have been unitized into a single part, such as the battery box and foot pegs having been integrated into a single cast unit. Perhaps most uniquely, the standard key ignition has been replaced with a hidden RFID chip, and the production model also features custom gauge and ECU.

Release 1

The Ronin will be released in sets, each release different from the last. The first 12 bikes are currently available (with 5 of them sold at the time of writing) and come in the Black & Silver color of the original Ronin concept bike, priced below production cost.

This will be followed by 10 All-Black bikes at an increased price, further followed by a release of 8; these releases, the second and third, will be available in the coming next few months.

Further releases will come in a set of 6, then 4, and then 2, all with different color schemes and features. The remaining 5 bikes will be one-off designs from the factory, each unique. Each bike will come with a bamboo toolbox.

We’ve been following the Ronin project since its debut in 2010. To finally see its release 4 years later is a welcome event.

Less Money Needed To Move Magpul To Wyoming

Friday, September 12th, 2014

According to a story in the Post Register, Magpul has found a move-in ready building in their new production, distribution and shipping base in Cheyenne, Wyoming that not only meets their long-term needs but also prevents them from having to take up temporary residence until a final home is completed. This move will save the citizens of Wyoming over $4 Million in grant money. The change was recently approved by the Wyoming Business Commission and will be taken up this week by the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board.

This will result in Wyoming investing $8.3 million in the project, and Cheyenne LEADS, the local economic development organization, will invest $1.1 million to help Magpul move. Operations should be in place by November.

The $8.3 million initially comes as a grant, but under the agreement, Magpul will repay about $3.7 million. Additionally, LEADS will sell the building to Magpul.
