ATLAS: Performance Dress Sock from Ministry of Supply

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

We’ve written about Ministry of Supply‘s unique blend of performance fabrics and office attire a couple of times now. Once again, they have come up with a great concept, paid for by crowdfunding.

This time, Ministry of Supply take on the dress sock. It looks much more comfortable and functional compared to the more traditional alternative. Using Strain Analysis, Pressure Mapping, and Thermal Imaging during development allowed MoS to maximize the comfort and heat management of the socks, which move along with the wearer much like a second skin. The socks are made from a blend of 40% cotton, 20% elastane, and 40% recycled polyester infused with carbonized coffee. The carbonized coffee particles attract and absorb aromatic molecules, which are easily removed in the wash. Two variants are planned, the ATLAS dress sock and ATLAS loafer sock, both initially available in black.

Off Duty – Ministry of Supply Introduces Apollo Shirts on Kickstarter

Monday, June 11th, 2012

When we wrote about Ministry of Supply‘s performance office wear shirts we didn’t expect them to be as big of a hit as they turned out to be. The concept of combining performance fabrics with business wear really resonated with our readers. Now, Ministry of Supply has told us about their next project, a shirt made from phase change materials. Not only that, but they are launching it through Kickstarter, which we have found is a great way to crowd source start up costs for a project.

This new Apollo shirt is made from a Phase Change Material developed for use in NASA space suits. The material offers you heat management. The concept behind the fabric is that it stores body heat when you’re hot and releases it later as conditions cool. Additionally, it provides moisture management properties and odor control. It’s also wrinkle free and machine wash. What’s more, the Apollo is Made in the USA!

Get in on the action at Kickstarter.

An Introduction to Ministry of Supply from Ministry of Supply on Vimeo.

Ministry of Supply is a business that’s been characterized as “Under Armor meets Polo.” Founded by five MIT students, Ministry of Supply was born after a board member got fed up with feeling sweaty and uncomfortable after long, redeye Transatlantic flights. The most logical answer? Integrate performance fabrics into classic business attire. And with that, the Agent shirt was born. Along the way they conducted some analysis on how the human body moves along with some market research and also developed a seamless undershirt.

Branding was easy. Big fans of the 007 series, they named their company after the real life Q’s wartime posting.

Thanks to Ministry of Supply who are offering SSD readers 23% off all shirts by using the discount code SOLDIER at checkout. We know a lot of you guys have to wear collared shirts on the job so give it a shot.
