SOWW – Takin Bacon 2014

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014

Special Operations Wounded Warriors (SOWW) had its 3rd annual event Takin Bacon 2014 several weeks ago at an Undisclosed location in North Carolina. The Reaper Outdoors Team led by SEAL Master chief Ron “Reaper-01” Bellan covered the event and filmed the event for the hit TV show ‘Survive the Hunt’.

Hunt 1

SOWW brought in 13 SOF heroes including SEAL (ret.) Jason Redman, Wounded Wear. Each of the SOF hunters were issued a Mil-Tac knife to take down their wild hog. The SOF hunters were broken down into hunting parties that were lead by local guides equipped with teams of dogs to track down the hogs. Its difficult to figure out who is having a better time, the dogs or the hunters. The hunt is filled with exhilarating moments. When the dogs begin to bay a pig its an all out sprint through brush, swamp, mud, water, and briars to get to the cornered pig. Once the handler lets go of the catch dog its time for the hunter to use his Mil-tac knife for its expressed purpose. Its truly an up close and personal hunting experience.

Hunt 2

The weekend is not only about tracking and taking down hogs. SOWW provides the SOF hunters with tons of excellent sponsored gear. More importantly though, its about the fellowship and camaraderie around the camp fires at night. It’s a truly unique experience that fosters brotherhood and healing.

SOWW is a 501c3 organization that gets wounded SOF back in the woods, on family retreats, fishing and hunting trips throughout the USA. If you want to support and learn more, please go to www.sowwcharity.com.
