Stay Alert Gum

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

This cinnamon flavored chewing gum packs 100mg of caffeine in each piece. First Alert Gum is found in First Strike Rations and has been issued NSN 8925-01-530-1219. Granted, they taste slightly bitter but the cinnamon masks most of it. Within a minute you can feel the active ingredient kicking in. The website cites several studies confirming the advantages of caffeine for sustained combat operations and I can speak from personal experience that when your eyelids get droopy, this stuff works.

The new Lightweight Duty Belt from BFG is designed specifically to complement their SOC-C Modular Belt. The core of the belt is a single piece of 2″ tubular Cordura webbing sewn between two layers of loop fastener. Arc’teryx Alpha LT Jacket in Crocodile

Arc’teryx LEAF has released a new jacket made from GORE-TEX® 3L Pro in Crocodile. While the LT shares a name with the mainstay Alpha they are not the same jacket. Originally developed as a wind shirt the Alpha LT ‘s featherweight make it a great approach jacket. The LT has a much lower price point but isn’t short on features. In order to ensure waterproofness and keep down weight zippers and hems are all laminated. The helmet compatible storm hood does not stow in the collar but does feature a quick dry chin guard. There are Napoleon pockets on either side of the chest as well as a single internal pocket. Arc’teryx has also incorporated pit zips to assist in regulating temperature,

Eagle Industries had an interesting new product on display at the recent NAVEXFOR show in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Eagle Industries Handwarmer

Similar to the handwarmers worn by football Quarterbacks, the Eagle design is intended to be worn around the waist. The Handwarmer Sleeve features a simple waist strap to avoid bulk and is made from a wind resistant four way stretch and is lined with fleece. There is an outer zippered access for stowage of small items and an expandable panel on the bottom in case you are wearing gloves.
