Warrior West 21 – BOSS-Xe by Wilcox Industries

In addition to being a red dot sight, the BOSS-Xe (Ballistically Optimized Sighting System – Enhanced) features a red visible laser, infra-red (IR) laser and fixed IR illuminator.

One of the big changes for the BOSS-Xe is that you can now swap between two preset ballistic trajectories with the flip of a switch-without having to re-zero the weapon (think .300 sub and supersonic). What’s more, the Lasers/illuminator/reflex all co-aligned with one adjustment.

It’s powered by a single CR123A battery, offering 10 Hrs on Dual High IR Laser only.

Wilcox products are available for unit and agency orders from ADS, Inc.

    Now this is cool.

Consolidating optic + IR laser + IR illuminator into a single unit should hopefully result in a decent weight savings.

    Curious what the weight is?

Arent the Lights/Lasers blocked by the front sight post (I guess you have to detach it due to the front sight post integrated with the sight), or the users hand … ?! Are you supposed to mount this optic even more forward, like on the handguard, to mitigate the issue of the short BUIS post distance? I dont get it.

    • Ryan says:

The end users of these optics likely are not using rifles with a fixed front sight post and are not worried about the lasers being obstructed. The backup sights integrated into the optic are there to provide a hasty solution in case of optic failure or breakage. This short sight radius BUIS system is similar to what you see on the Unity Tactical FAST mounts. Keep in mind this system was designed around the ability to switch between 300 BLK supers and subs. That means you’re likely using a CQB gun, so you don’t need sophisticated BUIS, just something quick and dirty that will get the job done at close range in an emergency.

Think SIG rattler and it’ll go a long way to answer the questions. The other side of the integrated BUIS are odd lighting conditions- the earlier models had a dimmer dot than some RDS and the BUIS makes a good quick reference for finding the dot when shooting into bright areas. Hopefully this upgrade solves the brightness, but it can still be an issue when you have the dot turned down( inside a building to outside on a bright day).

Its designed for MP7 style/LVAW PDW weapons where rail space is limited

      • Gyrfalcon says:

Cool Acronym SIG came up with 😀 LVAW sounds bad ass! What still bothers me is, and I know its no reason to bother as many will say, but the C-Clamp the rifle wont be possible anymore. I guess the customers who want this system does not care for this small downside.
