San Antonio, TX – Sons of Liberty Gun Works (SOLGW) is proud to announce it has been awarded a contract by U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for the Combat Assault Rifle (CAR) program. Following a rigorous competitive evaluation, a select-fire variant of the SOLGW MK1 rifle with an 11.5-inch barrel was chosen to equip America’s most elite warfighters.
SOCOM’s evaluation demanded the highest standards of small arms performance, including extensive trials for durability, precision, reliability, and environmental resilience. The SOLGW rifle endured extreme conditions—heat, cold, dust, mud, and salt exposure—while maintaining consistent function and accuracy.
The MK1 selected by SOCOM is the result of a multi-year development effort, building upon SOLGW’s extensive experience producing ultra-reliable rifles trusted by law enforcement and civilian shooters. Every component was analyzed and refined to maximize reliability, shootability, and durability, ensuring the platform can perform anywhere in the world.

“This is an incredible honor for Sons of Liberty Gun Works and something I dreamed about when I was building my first rifles in my garage,” said Mike Mihalski, Founder of SOLGW. “Our mission has always been to build the world’s finest fighting rifles for those who go into harm’s way. To have SOCOM select our rifle after such demanding trials is the ultimate validation of that mission.”
CEO Nate Horvath added: “I am incredibly proud of our team for their effort on this project, and excited to officially share the news. The MK1 has already seen strong adoption in the commercial and law enforcement markets, where its performance advantages are immediately clear. While this milestone is significant, our team remains focused on delivering reliable, high-quality, performance-driven fighting rifles to all ofour customers. The future of the MK1 family is bright, and there is more to come.”

Congratulations to the SOLGW team. You earned this.
Amen! They put a lot of heart and a lot of knowhow into this program.
Way better than Noveske, congratulations to yall!
It doesn’t even have a forged bolt. Just another overpriced AR.
Awesome sauce. These guys are solid. I’m glad they are getting the contract
Are these replacing the older Mk.18s and short barrel 416s in the inventory? From my understanding i would think those Mk.18s are getting close to their end of their service life and that SOCOM quietly no longer funds for more 416s in favor for the more widely adopted URGI.
No
Is the owner still making threats to LEO and getting arrested? I don’t see how any LE department would touch a SOLGW anything.
Cry harder child
Glad to see a smaller company win such a prestigious contract. Sig, Colt, FN, and others are over hyped. 11.5” is the way for an AR.
They literally just assemble commercially available parts, the claim they’re “building” anything is hilarious.
Most of their stuff is rebranded Aero Precision
Not even close. Shows how much you don’t know what you don’t know.
Great product produced by even greater Americans.
Good news for those who served knowing those who are serving
Have the best to arm themselves and protect each other.
A great blessing.
Jvw.
That’s exactly what it is, just another ar platform that’s made by the lowest bidder to secure a large military contract using our tax payers dollars. The ar platform has been around so that there is nothing different than any other. And, let’s just give them a shorter barrel so it’s not worth a hoot at longer ranges. I’m a retired range master and have seen them all. Oh, and let’s throw on a suppressor. Now all you have is close quarters assault rifle. Muzzle the little pup! Really? These rifles need to be able to engage targets a little farther than the length of a hallway. Have a good day, blow smoke somewhere else.
Ok fudd
I own this weapon. SOLGW created the next gen fighting rifle. With top grade ammo the accuracy at 100’ is under .25. Function is flawless, lightweight, low recoil, great ergonomics. Hand guard lockup is perfect, no IR shift in harsh conditions. Thank you guys.
So SF troops will go to war with a golf bag of weapons? 5.56,6.5, 6.8,7.62? Sounds like the Italian army of WW2! Logistic support for a team will be complicated. Weapons are always a compromise. And fitting in with foreign troops means use their weapons!
