CARSON, CA – S.O. Tech, Inc./Special Operations Technologies, Inc. is pleased to announce that its COBRA SIS Vest has been recently approved by the Los Angeles Police Department.

SIS-Vest-In-Action

The Los Angeles Police Department’s elite Special Investigation Section (SIS) has spearheaded the development of game-changing tactics to make our nation’s streets safe. Gone are the days of detectives in police windbreakers waiting as a suspect barricades himself and SWAT arrives for a long standoff. SIS officers worked with S.O. Tech staff on the design of the COBRA armor carrier to quickly throw on over undercover clothing from a surveillance posture. The vest is also designed for maximum mobility to apprehend perpetrators in travel mode and the pouch placement follows the order of use and accessibility. “It was an amazing experience to assist SIS operators in translating their decades of tactical experience into a vest system that represents a true change in law enforcement tactics.” said Jim Cragg, President and CEO of S.O. Tech.

The pinnacle feature of the vest is its panel waste attachment system which allows the vest to be hung over a car seat then quickly pulled on and snapped into place. Built to order and adjustable for fit, the vest has a non-skid upper chest to keep the weapon secure while aiming and firing and includes a Velcro®-secured cummerbund to keep the vest from shifting. Made in the USA, the COBRA SIS vest can carry both soft armor and plates, has a built-in weapon sling and is made of 1000D Cordura® nylon for supreme durability. The vest is versatile and can accept other SO Tech products such as: First Aid Kits (which mounts out of the way in the lower back), an array of tactical pouches and holsters, a “Go Bag”, a bandolier and various patches.

just be clear before the anti cops folks come along this isnt for every man jack on LAPD correct

  2. 1911FAN says:

    I don’t know about anti-cops, more like anti-militarized.

    • cj says:

most make no distinction, any criticism (no matter how legitmate) often gets me labeled as a “cop hater”

      • SSD says:

Me too. The guys who say that are the ones to keep an eye on tho. Fortunately, they self identify.

  3. Bill says:

“SIS” implies it would go to that specific unit, whose focus is on surveillance, interdiction and warrant service. Having BTDT for a different agency, it’s a lot of plainclothes work in Toyota Camrys and other tiny non-cop cars waiting for bad guys to show up and then making their life miserable. If this can actually be donned while in a car I’ll write a check today. 1000D Cordura seems a little much though, for what it’s purposed for, but maybe thats a construction necessity

It’ll be interesting to see if Ferguson has any impact on the move toward external vests carriers at all. One wouldn’t think that it would impact the uniform-shirt style, but they give up the major advantage of an external carrier in mounting other gear, so I always thought they were relatively pointless.

The women Jills won’t get them either.

    • PNW_Tree_Octopus says:

I hope not. I think anyone with their head on right can see that PCs and other external PPE+gear wear are exceptionally good ideas for anyone in harms way.

  4. Eric says:

Not a bad bit of kit. I like the ability to don in the car especially. I’ve tried that with other vests with varying degrees of success, but none really managed it well.

  5. Felix says:

Seems like a nice example of really purpose built kit.

  6. Fun point about Ferguson – a local tv journalist came by for an interview at the height of the riots. They asked me to hold this vest up on camera. I declined as I felt the image could be misinterpreted in the wrong hands… rest of the interview went well as I discussed how our product saves lives of both police and civilian. It all about the lives we save and the people we protect.

  7. Ed says:

What? No cup holder for coffee or sustainment pouch for donuts?

  8. Joe_momma says:

I’d like to see a video of it being donned while seated as described… Ice tried this with EVERY vest I’ve had and it’s so unnatural and bothersome It’s not viable. As stated, if it’s really possible, sigh me up!
