2021 Operator Expo

Monday, October 4th, 2021

Last week saw the inaugural Operator Expo held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Attendance was really good considering Canada is just opening up from their COVID-19 lockdown. It was also great to meet so many companies who are either producing products in Canada or representing other brands to the Canadian market.?

It was a great event and the second iteration is already scheduled for June 1 and 2nd of 2022. This is the same dates as? CANSEC and it’s right down the road so if you’re going to be in Ottawa, it’s worth hitting OPEX as well.

Something Happened On The Way To The Memorial

Saturday, September 11th, 2021

As you read this it’s officially 11 September, 2021, a full two decades after that fateful day in 2001 when the world changed. I expected to spend this year as I have years past, stoically grieving for our dead and vowing to never let it happen again.

But something happened as I made my journey to that place. Once again, America has been caught asleep at the wheel. But unlike in 2001 when we pulled together and screamed vengeance, our nation’s leadership gave it all away, abandoning not only our allies, but our citizens as well, to an enemy we have fought for 20 years. Worse yet, our President signaled to the rest of the world that the United States isn’t a leader to be respected, but rather a fair weather friend who will quit on you.

Afghanistan is once again ruled by a den of rogues, who will harbor terrorists. Worse yet, we armed them with everything from small arms to attack aircraft. Could you ever imagine Islamic terrorists trading in their AKs for M4 carbines? It’s happened, courtesy of the Biden administration. While most of the sophisticated stuff will be sold off, it will be to our enemies and the proceeds used to fund additional terror across the region and eventually, back here at home. We will pay for Biden’s failure for decades.

There will be no accountability. There will be no effort to regain our stature. Not until we wake up and restore proper leadership at home. Elections have consequences. Our chickens have come home to roost.

Over the next day, we here at SSD will memorialize the events of September 11, 2001. I pray that we never suffer a day like that again.

Fountain Valley, CA—SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of the world’s finest—and most innovative—illumination tools and tactical products, is introducing the Micro Scout Light® Pro.

The Micro Scout Light Pro is SureFire’s lightest, most compact Scout series WeaponLight to date, ideal for those who primarily operate with NVGs but also need an extremely low profile and lightweight white light for navigation, SSE or CQB. The Micro Scout Light Pro offers maximum capability and exceptional versatility with minimal size.

Measuring less than 4 inches in length and weighing a mere 2.1 ounces, the Micro Scout Light Pro takes size efficiency to a new level. You won’t even know it’s there, but it provides high-quality illumination for positive target ID, navigation, or Sensitive Site Exploitation. A recoil-proof, premium LED generates an impressive 300 lumens from a single rechargeable AAA battery that delivers 1.25 hours of constant runtime, and SureFire’s smooth parabolic reflector technology shapes the output to create a far-reaching, high-intensity beam. FN Announces Key Upgrades to Proven FN SCAR Semi-automatic Line-up

Tuesday, August 31st, 2021

NOW FEATURES DUAL, NON-RECIPROCATING CHARGING HANDLES AND MORE

(McLean, VA – August 31, 2021) FN America, LLC is pleased to announce that the long-awaited non-reciprocating charging handle (NRCH) upgrade is now available in all FN SCAR® semi-automatic models. FN’s new NRCH assembly features dual, ambidextrous charging handles that enable users to shoot from any position or use any grip style. The FN SCAR upgrade improves an inherently more accurate and reliable platform that, in its military configuration, has served America’s most elite fighting forces for more than a decade.

“The FN SCAR has proven itself as a leader in its class since its introduction, setting the standard for what gas-driven, semi-auto rifles should be,” said Chris Cole, Vice President, Sales & Marketing of FN America, LLC. “The complete modularity and fast-handling character of our most versatile rifle platform continues to advance. The FN SCAR 17S and 20S were already the softest shooting gas-driven .30-caliber rifles on the market and these upgrades deliver even more functionality to the SCAR platform.”

Dual, Non-Reciprocating Charging Handles

The FN SCAR becomes even more intuitive to the end user with new, non-reciprocating, dual charging handles, enabling any shooting position, grip style or optic choice. Combined with the fully-ambidextrous operating controls and adjustable buttstock, the FN SCAR instantly adapts to any shooter.

The assembly, consisting of a new charging handle sled and two ambidextrous, reversible charging handles that lock forward on bolt-close and remain static during fire, provide superior forward assist capabilities. The two charging handles, one at a 30-degree cant specifically designed to reduce interference with low-mount optics and one low-profile, are user-swappable in the field. The reduced reciprocating mass of the new bolt carrier produces less felt recoil, making a soft-shooting rifle even easier to manage.

“With the FN SCAR there’s a reason for every part, all have to work together perfectly to deliver the uncompromising accuracy, reliability and toughness this platform has earned under fire, that’s the difference between an FN SCAR and other carbines, we are held to a higher standard than most, failure is not an option for our Nation’s most elite forces, said Benjamin Voss, Product Manager for FN’s Long Guns. “With the semi-auto FN SCAR 16S, 17S and 20S, we hold the same standards of quality for these commercial variants. Adding the non-reciprocating charging handles allows SCAR to be even more adaptable, enhancing an already accurate and soft-shooting rifle. Shooting positions like urban prone, from a barrier or with a CQC-style grip are made possible and users can now run low-mount optics without interference.”

Every SCAR Tells a Story

The legendary FN SCAR series takes root in its battle-proven lineage, adapted from USSOCOM’s newest battle rifle since the M4 entered service in the 1990’s. The benchmark of reliability and versatility with its three variants, the FN SCAR 16S, SCAR 17S and SCAR 20S are capable of consistent accuracy from their cold hammer-forged and chrome-lined barrels and one-piece forged aluminum receiver, delivering precision fire with aid from its fully adjustable buttstock, low-flash gas regulator and fast-handling characteristics uncommon in similar rifle platforms.

Experience the FN SCAR’s unmatched history of military excellence and never-ending list of features, including the new, non-reciprocating charging handles online at www.fnamerica.com/scar.

Maxim Defense Has Cases of 7.62 x 39 Ready to Ship

Monday, August 30th, 2021

Maxim Defense, the premiere manufacturer in PDW technologies, has a large amount of Yugoslavian 7.62 x 39 FMJ and 7.62 x 39 TUI in stock and ready to ship. This won’t help us in the long run with the ban. That’ll take litigation and legislation to handle that. However, it will allow you to keep your long gun (or short gun, for that matter) fed in the interim.

As of this announcement, the Yugoslav ammunition is retailing for $695 per case of 1120 rounds or roughly 62 cents ($0.62) per round. Cartridges are 124gr annealed brass case 7.62 x 39mm FMJ with a Berdan primer. They ship mounted on SKS stripper clips. Buyers keep the case. And the brass, too, Maxim Defense would humbly suggest. If you don’t reload, someone you know almost certainly does.

If that particular type 7.62×39 doesn’t suit, Maxim Defense also offers its own ammunition: the “TUI” (Tumble On Impact) line. TUI ammunition is a solid copper spun line design explicitly designed for short barrels in mind. They’ll handle light recoil with no sacrifice in velocity, and because of the solid copper construction, they can be used wherever lead projectiles are prohibited for sport shooting. The Maxim Defense TUI SBR ammunition is 117gr SCS and ships 20/box.

Bullet Type M67 FMJ

On top of the multiple versions of 7.62×39, they carry plenty of types of ammunition, including 5.56 and .300 Blackout. If you’re in the market for more, take a look at the ammunition section of their website.

Clothier Design Source Provides Much Needed Combat Cloth Face Coverings (CCFC) During Coronavirus Delta Variant Resurgence

Wednesday, August 25th, 2021

Clothier Design Source became one of the first certified makers of the CCFC and is ready to help.

August 20, 2021 (Saint Paul, MN) — Back in June of 2020 the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) designed and developed Army face coverings based on the guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Department of Defense (DoD) and set out to find an industry partner to manufacture the face coverings. The cloth face coverings, known as the Combat Cloth Face Coverings (CCFC), are intended for Soldiers to wear when social distancing protocols cannot be met. Clothier Design Source, a cut and sew factory in Minnesota answered the call and began manufacturing and rapidly supplying the face coverings to the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). Since the recent resurgence of the coronavirus, Clothier Design Source is once again gearing up to supply Warfighters with the Combat Cloth Face Coverings.

Clothier Design Source is a Women Owned Business dedicated to making 100% Made in America soft goods. They have been around since 2006 and have a special focus on functional clothing and accessories. Since 2019, Clothier Design Source has dedicated most of its resources to provide the Army and Airforce with various products through awarded contracts or through AAFES.

The CCFCs are face coverings that have been developed for uniform use and come in Black, Tan 499, Coyote 498 and Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP). They are especially unique in their durability and designed adjustability. Clothier Design Source realizes there are not enough face coverings available to support the current demand and is currently in production to offer more.

The CCFCs were assigned a National Stock Numbers (NSN) following Clothier Design Source’s first substantial order in supplying AAFES with an initial order of 190,00 units. An NSN is a unique 13-digit numeric code assigned to products allowing any of the 29 NATO militaries to purchase the Combat Cloth Face Covering on a “military catalogue” basis, significantly simplifying the procurement process. The assignment of an NSN is also relevant to non-NATO customers in that it is considered to signify that the product has achieved a certain level of acceptance by the world’s more discerning defense customers.

To learn more about all the features of the Combat Cloth Face Coverings, they can be found on ClothierDesignSource.com/combat-cloth-face-covering. The NSN numbers are as follows.
