Proto Tactical Introduces The Alliance – A New Carbine

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013

I got a call yesterday from Kino Davis to tell me about the Alliance, a new carbine from Proto Tactical. Proto Tactical has been manufacturing OEM firearms components for other manufacturers and companies since 2010 and specializes in rapid prototyping and precision design and manufacturing. Now, they’ve decided to try their hand at assembling their own weapons. Not a bad looking gun.

Proto Tactical LLC introduces the Alliance, their newest offering to the popular tactical AR15 carbine market, setting a new high water mark for consumer expectations and manufacturer’s standards.

Even though Proto Tactical is a full service firearms manufacturing facility accustomed to fully machining their own receivers, chambering and turning barrels, designing and developing new parts – the decision behind the Alliance was to identify the best parts available and use that list of premium parts and most desirable features to offer a rifle that checks all of the boxes. The Alliance offers both veteran and beginning shooters a turn key solution that was previously only available by working with custom firearms shops, gunsmiths or though years of do-it-yourself experience.

Working with local firearms consultant Kino Davis, Proto Tactical has configured and manufactured a rifle that offers the most sought after features… and drops a lot of names in the process; from the Vltor MUR upper receiver and A5 recoil system, to the 16” mid-length gas system barrel, the highest quality internal parts featuring a short-throw BAD-ASS selector, Centurion Arms railed hand guard, and furniture from B5 Systems and Umbrella Corporation.

Proto Tactical President Gary Palese said “as a manufacturer, it is tempting to just make a lot of these parts in house… but we talked to a lot of people and looked at a many different rifles in the field to come up with this design.” He went on to say “this project was about finding the best systems out there and bringing them together under our standards for Precision in Assembly” – The Alliance rifle is assembled using a Proto Tactical lower receiver, completely manufactured in their Tucson based shop.

The Alliance is available for immediate order, for more information about the Alliance or other Proto Tactical services, contact them at 520-579-9873 or sales@prototactical.com

Phoenix, AZ July 23, 2013 – Strategic Armory Corps (“SAC”) announced today that it has acquired ArmaLite, Inc. ArmaLite is a leading manufacturer of a complete line of semiautomatic rifles, including the M15 and AR-10 lines, and an expanding line of advanced bolt action rifles in a wide range of calibers from .308 Winchester through .300 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, and .416 Barrett to the massive AR-50A1 .50 caliber rifle. Mark Westrom, the seller of ArmaLite, will remain as an investor in SAC and will serve on its board of managers.

The ArmaLite Division of the Fairchild Engine and Aircraft Company was the original developer of what has become known simply as the “AR”. In fact, “AR” actually stands for ArmaLite. There have been many variations of the original rifle, and today’s ArmaLite produces some of the highest quality firearms in the market. ArmaLIte will continue to operate out of its facility in Geneseo, Illinois which houses approximately 90 personnel.

Strategic Armory Corps manufactures precision bolt action rifles under the name Surgeon Rifles, high quality firearm suppressors under the name AWC Silencers, and match grade ammunition.

“ArmaLite is a tremendous addition to our group of outstanding companies and broadens our product line so we can better meet the needs of our customers”, said Mark Johnson, SAC President and CEO. “The history of Mark Westrom over his 19 years of leading ArmaLite will provide a wealth of industry knowledge to our leadership team and allow us to further expand our ability to meet the ever increasing demands for the highest quality products by our customers and the marketplace.”

Add that to a BCM 14.5 hammer forged pencil barrel with pinned BCM gunfighter combination flash hider and comp the overall effect is for a carbine that handles extremely well!!

Of course an Aimpoint Micro is present and needless to say my signature sling, in black, from Blue Force Gear

GFG Side Charging Handle

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013

The Side Charging Handle from Gun Fighter Gear is referred to as the first drop-in side charger for the AR15. It replaces a standard, mil-spec charging handle and offers an arm that projects down the left side of the upper receiver topped off with a knob. You simply pull back on the knob and charge the weapon. It’s new and different. I’m not gonna lie, somebody is going to try and break this thing off, just because they can, and then dance around triumphantly proclaiming, “See, it doesn’t work!”

The body is CNC machined from 7075 billet aerospace grade aluminum combined with internal parts CNC machined from steel. The side knob is knurled for purchase, even when wet.

In Class With Orion Applications Training Division

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

Daniel Defense recently sponsored a three-day event for the firearms press that included a course by Orion Applications Training Division. You may recognize the name ODG from their camouflage patterns we’ve covered here on SSD in the past. Turns out, they apply their knowledge in other ways as well. I was the only web-based writer invited to this event so it was a great opportunity for me to meet some of the guys in the gun press, familiarize myself with different Daniel Defense firearms and get a first hand look at training from ODG.

Day 1

Day 1 was administrative in nature and consisted of travel, a tour of the Daniel Defense factory and an icebreaker dinner with the other participants. We hit the hay having no idea what an exciting two days we had ahead of us.
