AKU Teams Up With Rampart International To Distribute Military And Tactical Boots In Canada

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Montreal, Canada (March 10, 2014) – AKU, designer and manufacturer of high quality outdoor, tactical and military footwear has recently teamed up with Rampart International, Canada’s leading supplier of operational equipment to distribute AKU boots to military, special forces, law enforcement, and first responder operators in Canada.

“AKU’s tactical boot line represents the company’s legendary heritage of technology, quality and innovation. We are proud to offer our customers the same boots relied upon by some of the world’s most elite Special Forces groups and militaries,” said Mike Klein, president of Rampart International Corp. “AKU is Rampart’s first boot offering; we had been searching for a brand that complements our existing spectrum of the world’s finest operational equipment. We will have the complete line of tactical boots in stock shortly; ready to ship across Canada with our famous $10 flat rate shipping.”

AKU has been designing and manufacturing military boots for the Italian and Swiss armies for more than 50 years. Developed in conjunction with U.S. Navy Seals and other international military organizations, AKU’s tactical boots are lightweight, durable and responsive in situations where gear is crucial for survival, not just performance.

The following AKU tactical boots will now be available through Canadian retailers:

NS 564 (BOSCO & SPIDER) – The NS 564 boots are AKU’s original special ops styles and were designed in conjunction with the U.S Navy Seals. The construction of these boots guarantees their performance in extreme hot, cold, humid and dry environments. The rugged AIR 8000 synthetic upper makes them breathable, while the 360-degree abrasion-resistant rand minimizes wear and tear (the Spider features additional toe protection). The Vibram SWOT outsole with a flat area at the toe makes them ideal for climbing and scrambling on a variety of terrain. The moisture-wicking Sanifit lining keeps the foot dry and reduces blisters.

PILGRIM DS & GTX – AKU’s new Pilgrim tactical boots provide all-day comfort and improved impact absorption due to the anatomically-shaped Internal Midsole System. The Vibram sole keeps the foot low to the ground for maximum stability and contact with the terrain and features a toe spring to allow for a smooth and comfortable gate. The design of the upper features additional flex points around the ankle which is essential when driving or kneeling, and the padded cuff makes the boot fit more securely around the ankle. The Pilgrim DS is highly breathable and designed for dry, hot climates. The Pilgrim GTX features a Gore-Tex liner so it is ideally suited for wet, temperate climates.

KS LEIGHT GTX – Another classic military boot from AKU, the KS Leight GTX is constructed with a full-grain leather shaft combined with a breathable fabric with Gore-Tex lining.

Warrior Expo – Belleville / Tactical Research

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

Belleville recently added a new boot to their Tactical Research line called the MINI-Mil Transition boot.

20140305-202920.jpg

Last year, Tactical Research unveiled the MINI-Mil boot, inspired by popular minimalist running shoes. It only features a 2mm heel to to drop making it a very flat boot. FR folks who aren’t used to barefoot running, this was a bit too much so TR came up with this new model. The MINI-Mil Transition offers a 6mm heel to toe drop which feels more “natural” for those wearing traditional combat boots. It remains a lightweight boot at 15.5 oz per pair. However, whereas the MINI-Mil features an unlined upper, the Transition model incorporates Aero-Spacer breathable, hydrophilic mesh lining. Additionally, this 8″ high boot is AR 670-1 compliant. Offered in Tan and Coyote, full sizes 6-14 (R&W) and half-sizes 6.5-11.5 (R&W).

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Scamp 1

The MultiCam Scamp is the result of a collaboration between Freewaters and SKD Tactical. The Scamp is the first commercial sandal with authentic, IR-compliant MultiCam material, featured on the soft webbing toe strap. It also features an ultra-comfortable footbed pattern licensed from Therm-A-Rest, akin to a Z Lite sleeping pad, which channels out water and air cools the foot. The strong, sponge rubber outsole provides grip and flexibility. Additionally, 1% of Freewater’s sales go to well digging projects in impoverished countries with areas without access to fresh water.

OR – Lowa Z-6 and Z-8 Series Boots

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

At OR I had a chance to catch up with German brand Lowa to find out about their new Z-6 and Z-8 series boots coming later this year. Leveraging the technology of the Zephyr, the new Z-6 and Z-8 (the number denotes the height of the upper) utilize the well-proven and patented PU MONOWRAP® frame technology but are beefier with a medial sole wrap and heavier duty lug pattern to protect against rope abrasion during fast rope descents. The goal was to produce a boot that offers the walking comfort of light hiking boots combined with the support and protection of backpacking boots. LOWA further toughened up the design up with a full-length nylon stabilizer and an aggressive rubber outsole. Lightweight metal closed hooks allow for speed lacing and meet requirements for airborne operations so no more taping up your eye hooks.

Below you will notice two suffixes in the full list of models names which denote the leather choices of split (S) and Nubuck (N). GORE-TEX® linings provide waterproof comfort, breathability and warmth in damp weather. Quick drying fabric linings are offered for hot and humid climates. LOWA’s patented Climate Control System pumps heat and moisture away from the foot, keeping feet dry and less prone to blisters.

Welcome To The Family – Baffin Gives You A Piece Of Their Heritage With The Boot That Started It All!

Heritage Creative Photos-18

Stoney Creek, ON – January 30, 2014 – With all the changes happening at Baffin, it is nice to see that some things remain the same. Based on the original mold from 1997, Baffin is proud to launch the boot that started it all – The Heritage.

With a layering structure inspired by the Inuit, Baffin developed technologies to modernize the traditional approach. “From the five layer Inuit boot, Baffin’s eight layer system came to fruition and remains at the core of our equity today,” says Brand Manager, Mark Hubner. “It’s important to remember and celebrate our roots, and what better way to do so then recreating the boot that sparked our success in the cold weather industry.”

Fully assembled at Baffin’s Stoney Creek headquarters, this limited edition boot features leathers sourced from Quebec, natural beaver trim from the West Coast, and bases molded right in their head office warehouse attachment, this limited edition boot is the definition of a true Canadian product! President Paul Hubner says that, “Part of Baffin’s heritage is in this box. Without this technology, we wouldn’t be the company we are today, which is why we want to celebrate our success and manufacture a purely Canadian boot.”

In addition to a number of brand new brand developments, Baffin launched The Heritage Boot at the Outdoor Retailer Tradeshow and Expo in Salt Lake City January 2014.
