Wndsn Explorer’s Notebook

Friday, September 17th, 2021

Wndsn Applied Sciences Lab is excited to announce our first adventures into stationery, with the Wndsn Explorer’s Notebook.

Calculations only become real when written down, and for years you, our passionate Telemeter and Quadrant users, have had to go without a dedicated Wndsn notebook to capture your most necessary computations.

The Wndsn Explorer’s Notebook is a one-of-a-kind addition to the stationery marketspace. This pocket notebook is designed for easy portability, durability, and pleasure of writing, and comes with several unique features.

There are so many details that we are so excited to have you experience for yourself. First you will notice the 40 pages of dot grid paper, designed for ease of writing, drawing, and calculation notation. However, it comes with a twist. The right page maintains a conventional square grid, while the left page is an isometric grid. Held right side up, the grid lines flow from one page to another; the user’s writing will be seamless. By turning the notebook 90 degrees the isometric grid is ready for 3D drawings.

By now you know we love our fountain pens and the experience of writing on good paper. What sets this pocket notebook apart from others on the market is the Swedish Munken Pure 120g/m² (32 lb) paper. Munken Pure is lush, thick, and able to take the flowiest of fountain pens.

And as always, there are nomograms. In the back of the notebook you will find a compendium of useful scientific guides including a Sine Quadrant and our Moon Clock plus 18 conversion nomograms for all of your mathematical and exploratory needs. There’s even a Telemeter on the back cover!

The Wndsn Explorer’s Notebook is now in stock and ready to be filled with all of your notes, thoughts, calculations, drafts, bujo items and grocery lists.

Introducing the Fred Perrin x WNDSN Escape Coin

Tuesday, May 4th, 2021

WNDSN Applied Sciences Lab is pleased to announce the release of a collaboration with French knife maker Fred Perrin, an OSS-inspired coin knife based on the heavy metal WNDSN eclipse challenge coin.

The front side of the coin shows the WNDSN metrology motto: “ex mensura, scientia” or “knowledge from measurement” and a graphical representation of a lunar eclipse that utilizes the old alchemical symbol for verdigris and, later, the astronomical symbol for the Earth. On the back side — on top of four graphical quadrants featuring a shadow square, standing for solving problems of space, a set of equal hour lines, standing for determining time, and the sine quadrant as the most elegant of mathematical instruments — Fred installs the blade, perfectly keeping with the lines, and, in its closed state, perfectly flush with the coin surface itself.

The famous Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was a wartime intelligence agency of the United States during World War II. The OSS Research & Development produced its own line of novel spy tools and gadgets, including compasses hidden in uniform buttons, playing cards that concealed maps, a diverse selection of lapel and otherwise concealable knives as well as coins (in the denomination of the respective country of operations) with integrated blades for escape purposes.

Based in the city of tradecraft, and heavily influenced by the atmosphere and climate of the cold war, WNDSN’s roots are inseparably connected to the divided city of Berlin and its flair of competing interests from all over the world.

Enter Fred Perrin, famous French knife maker and covert weapons designer, well known for his legendary LaGriffe (the claw) design, a small, concealable knife with a ring right behind the blade for retention and control. Fred is a former French Army Commando and a world-ranked martial artist.

Fred has a sizeable portfolio of covert tools made in the spirit of the OSS and its siblings in other countries, among which happens to be a version of the (in)famous “escape coin”. Now, many makers are making these coins, but Fred is the only one who’s integrating a thumb stud as his signature take on that by now almost a century old design.

The blade is made from 1095 carbon steel, the coin and hardware, thumb stud, pivot, and stopper pin choice is between raw copper or brass — either of which will patina beautifully.

Available directly from Fred Perrin.

New Mini All-In-One Torque Driver from Fix It Sticks

Thursday, February 25th, 2021

Chicago, IL- Fix It Sticks, the industry innovator of modular firearms maintenance tools and torque limiters has introduced the Mini All-In-One torque driver. Available individually, the Mini All-In-One provides five torque values commonly needed by expert and professional shooters into one compact driver. Developed from requests and input from shooters, the Mini All-In-One has torque values on the lower end of the scale useful for smaller, more detailed tasks such as tightening certain pistol sights, scope mounts, polymer accessories and rails and other soft material applications.

Using the Mini All-In-One is quick and easy because there are no settings to adjust or hassle with before use. Simply install any ¼” bit or socket into the Mini All-In-One as needed and tighten the fastener until the proper torque is achieved. A precise, graduated torque scale is laser etched on the side to indicate the torque value as it is applied. The settings marked on the side are 6 inch-pounds, 10 inch-pounds, 15 inch-pounds, 20 inch-pounds, and 25 inch-pounds. The Mini All-In-One can also be used to apply torque in between the specified settings by watching the inch-pounds indicator as torque is being applied.

The new Mini All-In-One Torque Driver kit works with all of the Fix It Sticks T-handle wrenches or any ¼” hex bit driver.

Perfect for use at the range or in the field, the Mini All-In-One Torque Driver is a great addition to any tool kit and has an MSRP of $55.00.

Introducing the WNDSN Night Ops Telemeter

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020

BERLIN, 2020-12-21, DECEMBER SOLSTICE – The return of an old favorite to make sense of those dark times.

“Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.” –Terry Pratchett

WNDSN Applied Sciences lab is pleased to announce the Night Ops Telemeter, new in stock for those working or adventuring under low-light conditions or in the dark.

The WNDSN Night Ops Telemeter is a re-release of an old classic. It is a simple, one-sided Telemeter engraved on transparent acrylic, made with a special slot to accommodate a 2″ mini chemlight for lateral illumination of the scale marks for night-time or low-light observations. The Night Ops Telemeter features a maximized set of scales with 7.5° x 7.5 x 500 units and is the first WNDSN product to use the new single-line font for 2021.

With the transparent acrylic and a special engraving technique, the Night Ops Telemeter makes use of the refraction property of the material which allows reading the scales against a light background where they appear dark, as well as in the dark, where they appear light — thus providing good contrast in most conditions.

The WNDSN Night Ops Telemeter is laser-engraved on glossy, transparent, 1/8″ (3 mm) thick acrylic stock, in the size of a standard credit card. Included is all that is required to get started, including a pre-configured Dyneema string, and printed 32-page Telemeter pocketbook instructions (in English and German), as well as access to the digital 240-page full manual.

WNDSN’s bestselling Telemeter is a measurement, calculation, and exploration instrument with thousands of units in use by professionals such as emergency, security, and law enforcement personnel, also teachers and instructors, as well as private enthusiasts, urban explorers and adventurers.

WNDSN Telemeters are wallet-size distance and altitude nomographs developed in the WNDSN applied science lab: WNDSN Telemeters combine a thousand years of civil engineering, surveying, navigation, and astronomy in one durable, low tech, high utility instrument that can be brought anywhere, is self-containing, and independent of external, modern technologies.

In extreme conditions, or in cases where laser rangefinders do not work or cause errors, WNDSN Telemeters can be used as a primary tool or to get a “second opinion” to cross-check values obtained with different means, or in emergency situations when other methods fail or are unavailable.

WNDSN Telemeters continue to spark and promote interest in contemporary metrological science and ancient navigational history as well as educational astronomy.

Made in Germany.
