Hyperstealth Presents Their Side of the Copyright Infringement Case with DCS

Monday, January 9th, 2012

A few weeks ago Predator Intelligence released a story detailing that Digital Concealment Systems had filed suit in Georgia Middle District Court against Canada-based Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corporation. Digital Concealment Systems is the designer of the A-TACS AU and A-TACS FG patterns. Hyperstealth’s lawyers sent a cease and desist letter in December to DCS stating that the A-TACS FG pattern infringed on the copyright of several Hyperstealth patterns and demanding that DCS immediately stop manufacturing, marketing, and selling that product. Weighing their options, DCS preemptively filed suit against Hyperstealth in a US court.

Now, Hyperstealth has gone to Predator Intelligence to “tell their side” of the story (our perception). As you may recall, last week we reported that Hyperstealth had released an online catalog of many of their EuroSpec patterns. However, after reading this Predator Intelligence story, it looks like Hyperstealth has held some of them back for use in court.

We are unsure at this point why Hyperstealth is so insistent on trying this case in the court of public opinion. Without prior access to the patterns in question, it’s difficult to make the case that DCS infringed on a copyright of a pattern that no one has seen. Furthermore, all of Hyperstealth’s actions, including these, taken to influence public opinion will most assuredly be brought up in court.

While it makes for a good story. This is best played out in a court of law. The outcome of this trial may well have a long-lasting impact on Hyperstealth’s policy of copyright assertion.

What is GSS Gear Up To?

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

GSS Gear has a splash page up in place of their standard home page. With it not going live until Tuesday the 17th (which incidentally coincides with the first day of SHOT Show), all we can do is wonder what they’re up to.

Liars, Poseurs, and Frauds…An Editorial by Raven Concealment Systems

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Raven Concealment Systems posted this on their Facebook page recently. It is one of the best things we have read in awhile. We’d say that their sentiment is shared by many in industry. Be aware there is some rather frank language in there. Verbatim…

I am appalled that I even have to compose this message.

With increasing frequency, we are receiving phone calls and emails from people who either imply or directly state that they are a member of the special operations/intelligence/federal law enforcement community, when they clearly are no such thing. Usually they are doing so with a hand extended, looking for some sort of discount, expedited service, and/or free “T&E” gear.

I’m not sure if these people think we’re stupid, or if they are really just so caught up in their Walter Mitty alternate reality that they believe their own lies, but we are completely fucking fed up with it.

In an attempt to reduce or eliminate such contact in the future, we are posting this “Public Notice:”
We do extensive business with the military special operations/intelligence/federal law enforcement community. We know how those guys communicate with vendors. Here’s a hint: They do it from email addresses that end in “.gov” and “.mil”, not “navyspecwarfare@xxxxxxx.com”. If you email us from an address like that, we are going to know right away that you’re a lying piece of shit.

Whenever we get an email or call from someone making claims to be from ‘XYZ’ agency or ‘ABC’ unit that makes our Spidey Sense tingle, we pick up the phone and call one of our buddies who ACTUALLY WORKS FOR SAID AGENCY/UNIT/GROUP/etc and ask them if you’re legit. Vetting someone is really easy in a community that small.
Our Operations Manager is a licensed private investigator, with a background in both federal investigation and military law enforcement. When we get guys falsely claiming to be ninja-force 17, we have him run said idiot to ground. He digs up every bit of that person’s personal information he can find, from criminal background to really embarassing pictures that are floating around Facebook.

Here’s our take on it: The guys you are attempting to impersonate take that sort of thing REALLY fucking seriously; therefore, WE TAKE IT REALLY FUCKING SERIOUSLY. If you are harboring any stupid ideas about calling us and claiming to be someone you are not, here’s what you can expect to have happen:

First, we will tell you to fuck off.

Next, we will dig up every bit of info on you we can find.

Then we will use said info to whatever ends we find suitable. Best case scenario is that we will use that information to publicly embarass you, but more likely we will forward that info to the community which you have claimed to be part of. If your claims violate the “Stolen Valor Act” in even the slightest way, we will assist in your prosecution.

I apologize to all of our loyal customers for such a vulgar rant, but I can only imagine how many other companies (who do not have the same resources at their disposal) are being duped by these lying dick-douches. Please share this to help spread the word.

Special Operations Apps Announces New Camouflage Technology

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

K. Dominic Cincotti is calling 2012 the year of camouflage and he might just be right. Camo is going to be all over the place in 2012, (just don’t hold your breath waiting for the US Army to make a decision anytime soon). However, plenty of new camouflage patterns and signature management technologies are going to become available for those in need. One of the companies at the forefront of this new emphasis is Cincotti’s company, Special Operations Apps.

In a press release, Cincotti said, “Camo, a multibillion-dollar business, will make huge gains in 2012, because it will mark a turning point in how camo is designed and made. Camouflage design has changed very little for centuries — until now, but new technologies, focused on how we design and manufacture camo, will produce a new shift in this market estimated to be in the billions.” We couldn’t agree more.

SOA has already begun to bring customized camouflage to the individual operator level with CamoScienceâ„¢ HD which combines a smartphone camera with an onboard app to produce a specialized camouflage pattern specifically for the area photographed (as seen above). The results are tuned for the environment it is produced in and can be exported for rapid, digital printing. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. SOA and their sister company MW R&D have just been issued a patent for their new Modern Warfare Camoâ„¢ technology. In fact, it’s just been featured on popsci.com.

According to SOA, “Modern Warfare Camoâ„¢ is both active and adaptive simultaneous multispectral camouflage.” US Army SF Veteran David Mullins, SOA’s team leader of subject matter experts said, “This is a truly significant patent that has been issued to MW R&D because it is a future-proofed solution we have now.” It’s a stealth camo technology that combines high-definition video imagery, a flexible thin-film display, multiple layers of sensor-blocking nanomaterials, and miniaturized thermoelectric array devices. Together, these countermeasures mimic the operating environment, producing multispectral simultaneous adaptive concealment.
