Happy 25th Anniversary USSOCOM
Wednesday, April 25th, 2012April 16, 2012 marked the 25th Anniversary of USSOCOM. Having spent many years of my career in Army, Air Force, and Joint SOF units, I have a special affinity for the command and its personnel.
However, today marks a different anniversary. In the early morning hours of 25 April, 1980 President Carter announced to a stunned world that the United States had undertaken an ambitious raid into Iran to liberate 52 American hostages held at our Embassy. Unfortunately, that raid, named Operation Eagle Claw was unsuccessful and we lost 8 American servicemen. Remember their sacrifice.
But, this failure was the watershed event that created, over the next several decades the world’s preeminent Special Operations capability; USSOCOM and it’s components.

Special Operations Adventure Race
Friday, April 20th, 2012June 8th-9th 2012, SOAR will be holding their 10th annual adventure races which will consist of a Sprint race of approximately 35 miles and an Elite race of approximately 55 miles of running, mountain biking, rappelling, paddling and an orienteering section in the long race. Both events are USARA sanctioned with a one day membership available at registration. The race routes run in and around Highlands North Carolina at an elevation of around 4000′ along the Eastern Divide. Half off race registration for active duty racers and teams. All funds raised go to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. To date they have raised over $540,000.00.
