Black Powder Red Earth 2 available on Amazon

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Volume 2 of Black Powder Red Earth is out and available on Amazon.com. As we’ve reported before, BPRE has been described as “Syriana meets Blackhawk Down”, though you won’t really get the full effect of that until the series is complete. (It was written and plotted in a cinematic fashion, so each successive issue will be faster paced and more dynamic than the one before.)

Jon Chang of Echelon Software is one of the creators of BPRE, and helped design the Facebook game of the same name. “The Facebook game was the first project, then the graphic novel,” he advises. “What’s interesting is that a lot of what you see in those first installments, events we wrote as likely, has occurred. It was originally projected theoretically, now it’s really happened. This is hard military fiction…there’s no overtly heroic actions or larger than life stuff, it’s as close as we can get to the complexities of what day to day operations are like in southern Iraq. So there’s a really realistic angle, it’s a compelling piece of work because it’s so believable and so accurate..”

The writing and artwork are excellent. You should consider checking it out.

You can check up on BPRE developments on their Facebook page or watch their homepage if you’d like.

Seriously, I love this lamp. Tactical Lamp Worx can build you a semi-custom lamp based on an AR-style upper receiver, base and shade such as the one you see below.

Help them live up to their motto, “Pissing off liberals, one lamp at a time!”

M Pale Neuf Millimetre

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

For some reason I just remembered that when I was in Haiti back in the mid-90s, Haitians would often ask me if I spoke Creole. I was one of the few ‘blan-yo’ who spoke their language and word would get around. Sometimes, folks would come slinking around looking for a handout or to try and run a scam. When I smelled a rat, I’d answer their query, “Pale ou Kreyole?” with, “M pale neuf millimetre,” or “I speak nine millimeter.” between that and a drop of the hand to the sidearm, it would usually got them turned in the other direction.

Custom Dog Tag Battle Mug

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

I’m a big fan of Battle Mugs. In fact, I gave one to my oldest son to commemorate his commissioning. The Battle Mug is a big freakin’ beer mug crafted from a solid billet of aluminum. It integrates vertical Picatinny rails at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions that accept the standard removable M4 carry handle as well as aiming devices.

They recently made a custom Battle Mug with a recessed space for a dog tag and now they are considering offering a “dog tag mug” in addition to the standard Battle Mug (*the downside is you lose the ability to add a serial number or engraving on this version). They want to know which you would prefer? Original? Dog Tag version? To let them know your opinion, visit their facebook page.

Green Beret Foundation Survival Band

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

These days you can get survival bracelets anywhere. In fact, many of you make your own. But if you want to get a cool looking bracelet and help out the Green Beret Foundation then consider purchasing a survival band from RE Factor Tactical. They’ve teamed up with non-profit, 501(c) 3 foundation Green Beret Foundation to help raise money and awareness for wounded or ill Army Special Forces warriors and their families. 100% of the net proceeds of each sale of these survival bands are donated to the GB Foundation. The green stripe down the middle of the band is added to represent the Green Beret and is subtly contrasted against the black background to represent the “Quiet Professional.”
