To call yesterday at Outdoor Retailer “somber” would be an understatement. Many of the vendors and quite a few attendees had contact with the personnel lost in the helicopter tragedy in Afghanistan.

For every pair of Magnum boots purchased through select retailers between now and August 15th, Magnum USA will donate a portion of the proceeds to Operation Gratitude. You may well already know about Operation Gratitude which has shipped more than 660,000 personalized care packages to American troops deployed overseas since 1993.
“It’s nearly impossible to be able to truly express our gratitude to our troops for the enormous sacrifices they make on behalf of our country,†said Bob Kaiser, Magnum USA CEO. “We wanted to be able to let our Forces know that we’re thinking about them, and partnering with Operation Gratitude to send out care packages is the perfect way to do so.â€
The promotion, which is available only through Quartermaster, MilitaryBoots.com, U.S. Cavalry and DutyBootShop.com, offers Magnum’s Sidewinder HPi, Spider 8.1 HPi, Elite Spider 8.0, Stealth Force 8.0, Cobra 8.0, Cobra 6.0 and Response II 8†Desert Tan boots at a special price of 20% off retail. For every pair of boots sold during the first two weeks of August, $1 will be donated to Operation Gratitude.
Last week we met the folks from Service Perks and the concept is fantastic; “Giving Back to Those Who Give.” Every day they introduce a new great offer for service members (Mil and First Responders). The idea is simple. It’s a daily group buying concept where each deal is “tipped” before it becomes valid. If too few people sign on, the deal goes away, so those who want the deal have an incentive to get others to buy. They also have to buy that day, because most deals last no longer than 24 hours.
They just launched their new website but they have been very active on Facebook for some time.
A friend recently told us about a great young lady named Sarah who has decided to run across America in honor of our military heroes. It seems that her dad and my friend had lost a close colleague named Robert L. Shultis (SBPD) years ago while on duty. Having recently graduated from the University of Redlands in California, she felt it was time to honor our fallen.
Here is a link to Sarah’s Remembering our Hero’s blog. Her dad is also traveling with her on this 4 month journey starting July 24th from Southern California, (but he will be in a trailer!)
If any of you would like to add a fallen heroes name and their association to her blog, that is all Sarah is requesting. She can be emailed at sarahmemoto@gmail.com
Please keep Sarah in mind over the next several months as she travels across America for all our brave men and women in uniform fallen and present.

Hazard 4 recently introduced their new blood-type markers after learning about military personnel marking their blood types on their boot heels or lacing dog tags into their bootlaces. Rather, these 3-d injection-molded rubber markers, won’t wear off like markers and won’ become secondary projectiles in an IED event. In addition to the bootlace application you see above, they can also be used for bracelets, or as zipper pulls. Available in Black/Grey, Coyote, OD Green, and Glow-in-Dark.
The Aces High pinup from Bawidamann was developed as a collaboration with Mil Spec Monkey. Now, it’s available from Bawidamann as a patch as well as a Sticker.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Don’t stand there gawping like you’ve never seen the Hand of God before! Now, today, we’re going to do marching up and down the square! That is, unless any of you got anything better to do. Well?! Anyone got anything they’d rather be doing than marching up and down the square?! Yes?! Atkinson. What would you… rather be doing, Atkinson?
ATKINSON: Well, to be quite honest, Sarge, I’d… rather be at home with the wife and kids.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Would you, now?!
ATKINSON: Yes, Sarge.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Right! Off you go! Now, everybody else happy with my little plan… of marching up and down the square a bit?
COLES: Sarge!
SERGEANT MAJOR: Yes?!
COLES: I’ve got a book I’d quite like to read.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Right! You go read your book, then! Now! Everybody else… quite content to join in… with my little scheme of marching up and down the square?!
WYCLIF: Sarge?
SERGEANT MAJOR: Yes, Wyclif?! What is it?!
WYCLIF: Well, I’m, uh, learning the piano.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Learning the piano?!
WYCLIF: Yes, Sarge.
SERGEANT MAJOR: And I suppose you want to go and practice, eh? Marching up and down the square not good enough for you, eh?!
WYCLIF: Well,–
SERGEANT MAJOR: Right! Off you go!
WYCLIF: Oh.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Now! What about the rest of you? Rather be at the pictures, I suppose.
SQUAD: Oh. Ooh. Great. That’s great. What a day. I want to see the Merle Oberon picture. Eh hehheh.
SERGEANT MAJOR: Bloody army! I don’t know what it’s coming to. Right! Sergeant Major, marching up and down the square. Left, right, left. Left…
NARRATOR #1: Democracy and humanitarianism have always been trademarks of the British Army…
SERGEANT MAJOR: Rubbish!
NARRATOR #1: Shh! …And have stamped its triumph throughout history, in the furthest-flung corners of the Empire,…

…but, no matter where or when there was fighting to be done,…
[patriotic music]
…it has always been the calm leadership of the Officer class that has made the British Army what it is.
