Laser Devices Becomes Steiner eOptics – Launches Civilian Version of DBAL-A3

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Did you know that Laser Devices is now Steiner eOptics? I just found out myself but it happened 1 January. You may also know that it is a Beretta Holding company. Apparently, they’ll be releasing a couple of other new products at SHOT Show.

IMG_0896.PNG

Monterey, California – Steiner eOptics (formerly Laser Devices) announces the DBAL-A3 class 1/3R Civilian, the first eye-safe IR laser pointer, IR illuminator and green laser pointer in a single compact unit.

The DBAL-A3 class 1/3R Civilian, based on the standard issue DBAL-A3 for U.S. warfighters, brings the latest advances in IR and laser technology to the civilian market with its dual beam reliability for extreme accuracy in low- and no-light maneuvers. In addition, the DBAL-A3 is the first to feature new defocused adjustable IR illumination technology to enable both midrange and close quarter target acquisition.

Like the military issue DBAL-A3 it includes a single laser activation switch, low profile windage and elevation adjusters and mounting holes for a flip-up front sight, sub-miniature red dot sight or a MIL-SPEC-1913 top rail. The DBAL-A3 also features dual remote cable ports that allow the operator to plug a Forward Mounted Light directly into the laser housing using the dual remote cable switch.

One switch pressure pad activates the light and visible laser simultaneously; a second switch activates the infrared functions, enabling operators to instantly transition from infrared to white light on the fly. Housed in an Aircraft aluminum 6061-T6 / MIL-SPEC Type III hardcoat anodized case, the DBAL-A3 Civilian is as rugged and reliable as the military issue DBAL-A3 on which it is based.

With the introduction of the 3-laser DBAL-A3 is also the 2-laser DBAL-I2 that offers a choice of either an IR pointer with a visual pointer or an IR pointer with an IR illuminator.

ADS Inc’s Sales Team Trains With Leupold and Knight’s Armament Corp

Monday, January 5th, 2015

I recently had a rare opportunity to participate alongside members of ADS Inc’s Sales Team in new equipment training of products from Leupold Optics and Knight’s Armament Corp at Special Operations Veteran Jim Smith’s Spartan Tactical just west of Fort Worth, Texas. It was unseasonably cold and wet that week but we made the best of it, combining classroom, pistol, carbine and SR-25 range sessions as well as a little practical application during a night shoot in search of wild hogs.

IMG_9743

Jim has a great facility at Spartan Tactical with a variety of ranges with targets in excess of 1000m.

Classroom instruction was focused on optics, shooting theory and product info. Because the group had a variety of experience levels, hands on instruction started out with carbine basics with optics and ramped up to the point where the participants where engaging targets at 900m once we switched to the SR-25s.

IMG_9736

Everything we did focused on the practical application of various Leupold optics, even during the day two handgun session. The event gave me a much better appreciation of Leupold’s lineup and I know that the ADS folks I accompanied gained a lot of confidence in their use and picked up some new understanding of customer requirements. They also got to take terminology and theory and apply them first hand to successfully engaging targets.

ADS Inc has been working with vendors for years to offer updates to enhance existing systems, new components and turnkey solutions to enhance the lethality of their customers. In fact, the new Weapons & Optics catalog is available for order where you can check them out.

IMG_9657.JPG

Leupold is going to release some VERY cool new products at SHOT Show (can’t show them just yet). The ADS team is well acquainted with these items and can help agencies and units with placing orders. We’ve already shown you a couple of other new products from Knight’s (Anti-Cant Device, Improved 45 Degree 200-600m Offset Rear Sight and Bipod) and those are available through ADS Inc as well.

o Target Light Sensor Technology – A cadmium-sulfide photocell located in the optical path that measures the light transmission and automatically adjusts the reticle illumination to the proper brightness. When in a stationary position an operator may be faced with a multitude of target light conditions even through the ambient light stays consistent. Also, while on the move, environment light is constantly changing. The Target Light Sensor Technology simplifies the operation and allows the operator to focus on the job at hand. Simple. Intuitive. Effective.

o Single Intuitive Control (SIC) – Gives the user a single operation button, designed to stimulate muscle memory and expedite operation.

o BCO Microcontroller – Unique to the industry, the microcontroller is capable of being re-flashed with customized or updated operating firmware via a sealed utility port. This port can be used to import or export power for accessories or plug in a remote pressure pad switch for manual operation.

o Smart Electronics – The electronics are designed to conserve battery life by placing the optic into SLEEP mode when the optic has be left on or stored and not in use. The BTO has an average battery life of over 2000 hours and 775 hours at the max setting. In the sleep mode, the battery will maintain the full 10 years shelf life expectancy of a Lithium 123A battery.

KAC to Offer Rail Mounted Anti-Cant Device

Monday, December 15th, 2014

I recently had an opportunity to spend some time with Leupold and Knight’s Armament Corp during new product training for ADS Inc‘s SOCOM team at Spartan Ranch near Fort Worth, Texas. I’ve shown this photo to exhibit KAC’s new Improved 45 Degree 200-600m Offset Rear Sight. Naturally, several readers had a “Squirrel!” moment, asking for information on the cool bubble level. You asked and so shall you receive.

IMG_9739.JPG

There’s really not a lot to say about the KAC Rail Mounted Anti-Cant Device. It does what it’s designed to do, assist the shooter in preventing rifle cant. It’s Mil-Std 1913 compatible and mounts directly to the rail behind and below the optic, securing with a flat tip bolt.

IMG_9747.JPG

As you can see, they’ve eliminated any sharp edges.

IMG_9749.JPG

Make sure you stop by Knight’s booth at SHOT Show to get a first hand look at the Anti-Cant Device as well as their other new products.

KAC’s Improved 45 Degree 200-600m Offset Rear Sight

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

IMG_9657.JPG

During a recent range trip to West Texas’s Spartan Tactical along with Leupold and Knight’s Armament, I got a chance to see a few new items demonstrated by KAC’s Jack Luba and Kevin Boland.

IMG_9739.JPG

You may have already read about the new bipod, so this time I’ll mention the Improved 45 Degree 200-600m Offset Rear Sight mounted to the SR-25 above.

IMG_9750.JPG

Notice it is called an “Improved” model. That’s because while the actual sight itself remains unchanged, they’ve improved the base. The two main changes are that it’s now ambidextrous, and attaches with 1/8 hex rather than the screw, previously used.

IMG_9751-1.JPG

Make sure you stop by Knight’s booth at SHOT Show to get a first hand look at this sight.

Meet The Brains Of The RIANOV Eagle from Precision Targeting

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

IMG_9790.JPG

This tiny wafer of a chip is the actual ballistic computer used in Precision Targeting’s RIANOV Eagle which we originally showed you during SOFIC. It’s built as an OEM product that can be supplied to other manufacturers.

IMG_9791.JPG

The actual RIANOV Eagle, seen above, is a weapon mounted (1913 compatible) ballistic computer. It offers a fully compensated ballistic solution monitoring environmental conditions and weapon system orientation (slope and cant) to provide a firing solution. The military version is interoperable with the STORM, Rulr and RAPTOR.
