Tactical Tailor – RHINO RUCK

Tactical Tailor’s RHINO RUCK was developed at the request of a SOCOM client that required an updated ALICE pack tailored to the communicator who is required to deploy across all spectrums of airborne operations.

The RHINO is a static line and MFF jumpable ruck. It is purpose built around the STRRLS, H-Harness, Harness Single Point Release, and the Parachutist Drop Bag. The RHINO features a pass through RTO zipper with optional removable PRC 117G go bag that can be worn as an assault pack or mounted directly to a plate carrier. Rigging channels are cut and sewn directly into the ruck. Additional features include external compression straps, double rain fly, and reinforced hydration and commo channels. The RHINO may be custom modified to meet end user and unit requirements.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – Noveske Discreet Backpack

In this week’s FirstSpear Friday Focus we cover one of my favorite products, the Noveske Discreet Backpack. Developed in conjunction with Noveske Rifleworks, this discreet pack is camouflage for your carbine. Overall, the appearance belies the true intent of the bag.

The Noveske Discreet Backpack will accommodate an SBR, subgun or broken down rifle. It also integrates a large beavertail in the front of the pack for jackets and other items and offers daisy chain down both sides.

Additionally, they’ve ingeniously incorporated the Noveske cross design into the padding on the back.

The shoulder straps are padded for comfortable carry.

When you open it up, it’s got two straps to keep your gun in place.

Additionally, there’s a barrel muzzle shroud.

I’m a fan of the color combos used offered with this pack. You’ve got Black/Coyote/Ranger Green and Grey/Brown/Rust. I’ve also seen a Black/Red variant that is also mentioned in the video.

CTOMS – Pack To Armor Rapid Integration System (PARIS)

The CTOMS’ PARIS is a retrofit to the CTOMS 2ndLine Pack featuring the MQRB shoulder straps. It is compatible with most MOLLE armor/plate carriers and integrates with limited effect on mounted pouches and equipment. This eliminates the traditional shoulder strap configuration that can cause problems such as:

– Restriction of circulation to the arms
– Restriction of shoulder and arm range of motion
– Negative impact on shooting stance
– Negative impact on mobility, flexibility, and agility
– Negative impact on long term comfort

FirstSpear Friday Focus – New Medical Gear

Each Friday, SSD takes a look at another facet of FirstSpear’s ever-growing line of clothing and equipment. This week we’ll check out a few new medical items including a pack and two IFAKs.

Medical Trauma Assault Pack

The Medical Trauma Assault Pack (MTAP), Thin Profile features a large zippered pocket allowing access to the contents. It also integrates the bungee attachment points to secure odd sized items as well as three “tear out” pockets which can be tossed to others providing aid. An easily accessed grab handle will allow the pack to be hung in vehicles or airframes.

Ranger Med Pouch

Ranger Med Pouch is a two-piece design with the insert completely removable from its carrying component. The insert is secured in place with a stretch hook closure that will remain secure through parachute, fast-rope operations etc. A hook and loop attachment point on the insert allows for indication patch or IFF. Hooks to gear via FirstSpear’s MOLLE-compatible 6/9 attachment system.

Emergency Response Kit

The ERK is a low profile IFAK carrier made from softshell fabric that can be mounted to your gear so that the direction of pull is either up or down. A maritime resistant plastic snap provides additional security to the activation handle and when yanked, the insert (sold separately) is pulled free from the pouch.

Below, the ERK is displayed ready for carriage as well as how it deploys.

Intelligent Armour – 10 Year Duffel Travel Bag

Made from 1000D Cordura nylon, Intelligent Armour’s Duffel Travel Bag has a main compartment with a capacity of 90 liters (28″ x 16″ x 16″), with three internal mesh pockets, and YKK zippers and runners. An internal bottom panel is removable. The duffel features two extra-large ID panels, and a Velcro loop strip for morale patches or name tape. The grip for the handles of the duffel has been enlarged to 8″ and padded for comfort; the handles are made from 1.5″ military specification webbing. This duffel also features removable and adjustable shoulder straps, and a removable and adjustable sternum strap with an Austrialpin buckle.

The ’10-Year’ in the product name comes from Intelligent Armour’s promise to guarantee all workmanship for 10 years – if any of the straps, zips, or stitching fails during that period they will fix or replace the bag, if used within normal usage.

Warrior Expo – Watershed

Watershed has been producing the SOF Waterproof Bag System in both SEAL and SWCC variants. The SEAL version consists of 5 bags and the SWC version, just 3. Fairly recently, the NSW had Watershed update the kits.

First up, they’ve updated the Large Pack Cover to the Kodiak V2. The waterproof zipper now runs North/South making it easier to get into and these will now be stocked at SOFSA and can be requisitioned by authorized users in conjunction with a Granite Gear Chief Patrol Pack.

This is the new liner for the issue 3-Day Assault Pack by Mystery Ranch. It integrates a roll top closure and inflation tube. In fact, inflation tubes are standard on the entire set.

The new addition is a Mil-Spec version of the popular Ocoee waterproof duffel. It integrates belt loops and can be worn in front, around the waist, for water jump ops.

Additionally, they have updated the Pro-Mask Bag to accommodate the M53 Mask/ It retains the drop leg carry strap.

Not shown is the Weapon Bag.

The kits are offered in Black and Alpha Green.

Kifaru – Urban Zippy

The Urban Zippy is Kifaru’s first entry into the Urban/EDC market. Based on the tactical Zippy, the Urban Zippy features no PALS webbing for a discreet look. Bottle pockets have been added to the side doors, sized for 1 liter Nalgene bottles. Mesh pockets on the interior of the side doors are dimensional, allowing for more storage space. The bladder pocket holds up to a 15″ laptop with a padded case. The compression straps are center adjust and removable. The Urban Zippy also comes with a 4 point matrix on the front for Kifaru’s Lock n Load pockets, along with a bungee for cinching down gear needed for quick access.

The Urban Zippy will be available in Coyote Brown, Foliage Green, Black, MultiCam, Kryptek Highlander, Kryptek Mandrake, and Kryptek Typhon. Ships May, 2014.
