SIG MOD-X9 Selected by USSOCOM as Mk27 Handgun Suppressor

Tuesday, February 1st, 2022

Last fall, USSOCOM selected the SIG MOD-X9 in 9mm as the suppressor for use with the Mk27 handgun, a SOF unique pistol which is known commercially as the Glock 19 and is currently in service in several variants.

The user configurable MOD-X9 Suppressor is comprised of seven, 3D-printed titanium baffles and an encapsulator with 21-points of impact adjustment.  The length is adjustable from 3.25 inches to 7.5 inches, the weight is adjustable from 5 ounces to 8 ounces, and the sound is adjustable from 127.4dB to 145.3dB.

With a handgun suppressor requirement on the books for years, the capability was finally acquired via an Other Transactional Authority acquisition which saw several manufacturers offer commercially available suppressors compatible with the Glock handgun.

Participating vendors demonstrated their suppressors to the command during a private range event in 2020. Then, they selected two suppressors to move forward with operator testing and a technical evaluation at Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane which handles procurement of weapons for Special Operations Forces. The result was selection of the SIG MOD-X9.

Due to the nature of the procurement, traditional steps aren’t necessarily followed so unfortunately, there has been no public notice of the buy. Regardless, the first tranche of suppressors for the Mk27 handgun should be hitting units by this summer.

B&T Brings Its Vast Suppressor Technology To The United States

Friday, January 14th, 2022

Tampa, FL (January 14, 2022) – During the last thirty years, B&T AG has become the industry’s premier suppressor producer, and has been selected to produce suppressors for most of Europe’s small arms manufacturers and many of Europe’s armed forces and Police agencies. In 2022, B&T suppressor availability is coming to the United States.

“We’re excited to introduce you to the next evolution of suppressors — our Reduced Backpressure System (RBS) line of SMG and rifle caliber suppressors” said Jon Scott, Vice President of Sales, B&T USA. “These revolutionary flow-thru suppressor designs feature a low-pressure chamber design to absorb a substantial amount of gas, thereby reducing back pressure. This significantly minimizes, and in some cases, eliminates excess gas pressure at the charging handle and ejection port locations, making the RBS a top choice for submachine guns, assault rifles and machine guns.”

B&T’s sound suppressors are world-renowned by tip of the spear professionals as being of the highest quality, most technologically advanced in both material and design, while being rugged enough to withstand the harshest environmental conditions and high-tempo firing schedules imaginable. Our product line extends from trick .22 caliber suppressors for civilian sport shooting all the way to .50 BMG sniper suppressors used by tier one anti-terror teams. Our line also includes specialized suppressors for light and medium caliber machine guns. Numbering nearly 500 different models for platforms of all kinds, our suppressor line can succinctly be described as thorough.

SIG SAUER Announces Commercial Variant of Army Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) MCX-SPEAR and 277 SIG FURY Ammunition

Thursday, January 13th, 2022

SIG SAUER has just announced the commercial sale of the MCX-SPEAR in .277 SIG FURY. This is a very cool opportunity. Aside from full-auto capability, you’re able to buy the very same rifle currently being offered to the US Army, and the Army should make its decision soon on a new suite of weapons to replace the M4 Carbine and M249 Squad Automatic Weapons currently used by its close combat forces.

One of only two contenders left in the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons program, the MCX-SPEAR is also currently under evaluation by numerous friendly foreign forces in .277 SIG FURY (6.8x51mm), 6.5 Creedmoor, and 7.62x51mm NATO.

It combines the modularity of the AR-style firearm you are already familiar with, with a piston-driven operating system, allowing the user to quickly reconfigure the weapon between the three calibers already mentioned via barrel swap. There’s also the original version of the MCX in circulation, having already been adopted by forces around the world in 5.56mm, 7.62x35mm (.300 BLK) and 7.62x39mm.

There are nearly one million M4 Carbines in the US Army inventory, and the NGSW program’s stated goal is to field just over 100,000 weapons, so there are going to be a lot of troops still carrying the legacy gun. With the versatility of the MCX family, it’s not hard to imagine additional upper receiver groups in 5.56mm NATO helping to modernize the Army’s entire inventory of Carbines to a piston-driven system. Already, USSOCOM has adopted an MCX upper variant to satisfy its 5.56mm Suppressed Upper Receiver Group program which began fielding last year.

The .277 SIG FURY cartridge fired by the MCX-SPEAR is a commercially available version of the same hybrid case round SIG Ammo developed to satisfy the Army’s requirement to propel a 6.8mm projectile at a high velocity in order to provide America’s Soldiers overmatch against threat small arms.

Additionally, you’re getting their latest SLX Suppressor. Between the 13″ barrel and suppressor, this is a two-stamp gun.

If you want to keep it as currently in use, you can easily pair it with the SIG Optics TANGO6T which has been adopted by the US Army for use with both the M4 Carbine and M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman Rifle as well as by USSOCOM as part of their Squad Variable Power Sight program. It has also been used on NGSW candidate weapons during Soldier Touch Points.

Along with the photos above, here’s a clip from a range session with the MCX SPEAR shot last year during a writers event at SIG Academy.

As you can see, it packs some oomph but is controllable, even during full-auto fire.

Here is SIG’s full press release:

NEWINGTON, N.H., (January 13, 2022) – SIG SAUER is proud to announce the official expansion of the MCX series of rifles with the new MCX-SPEAR chambered in 277 SIG FURY.  The MCX-SPEAR was developed with direct input from U.S. warfighters to provide more power, distance, and accuracy to replace the current M4 rifle platform.  The MCX-SPEAR is now the most innovative and advanced AR platform in the world.

“This is a rare opportunity for passionate consumers to own a piece of history,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “This first production run MCX-SPEAR, and all of the revolutionary technology behind its development, is being offered to the commercial market in a configuration that is a near match to our NGSW-R submission. Further, this is the only rifle submission to the program that is designed and engineered in the United States by a company with the manufacturing scale and proven adherence to military-grade quality requirements – which is a tremendous source of pride for everyone at SIG SAUER.”

The MCX-SPEAR is an adaptable multi-caliber rifle (277 SIG FURY, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7.62 NATO, with barrel change) featuring rear and side non-reciprocating charging handles, 6-position folding stock, ambidextrous fire control, bolt-catch, and mag release, 2-stage match trigger, 2-position adjustable gas piston, a lightened free-float M-LOK™ handguard, a full-length picatinny rail, and ships with (2) 20-round magazines.

“The revolutionary SIG FURY ammunition is the most technically advanced leap in smalls arms ammunition in over 150 years, this turns your intermediate rifle platform into magnum performance without the added weight or length while still using 20-round magazines,” added Cohen.

The 277 SIG FURY ammunition is the commercial variant of the 6.8 x 51 hybrid military round available in the hybrid case technology submitted to the U.S. Army NGSW program. Also available is a 277 SIG FURY FMJ traditional cartridge round available.

“The final component of this special-edition offering includes the SLX Suppressor. The design of the SLX suppressor is optimized to dramatically reduce harmful toxic backflow and features our patented QD attach/detach system making installation of the suppressor a game-changing level of ease,” said Cohen.

The SIG SAUER SLX Series of suppressors are designed to drastically reduce toxic fume inhalation by the end-user and sound reduction and are available commercially for 5.56, 7.62 NATO, and 277 SIG FURY calibers.  The SLX suppressors feature a monolithic core construction in Inconel, an internal multi-flow path to exhaust gases at a higher rate resulting in lower toxic fume inhalation, a sound reducing baffle design, a flash reducing end cap, and are available with either the new Clutch-Lock QD mounting system for easy install and removal that offers an intuitive tactile locking ring with infinite radial locking positions, or direct thread.

Introducing HUXWRX Safety Co

Tuesday, January 11th, 2022

It’s official, HUXWRX Safety Co has officially launched. Building on the success of OSS Suppressors, HUXWRX Safety Company is a human exposure workshop dedicated to building products that are optimized for the safety and health of their customers without compromising efficiency or performance.

To explain why this happened, let’s turn to a statement released today by the company:

Signature reduction and user safety have always been at the forefront of our mission. in 2020, OSS began testing our patented flow-through™ suppressors against traditional baffle suppressors for toxic blowback. toxic blowback primarily consists of carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia. on average, the amount of toxic gas that was being emitted back at the shooter’s face from a traditional baffle suppressor was 265% higher than with a flow-through™ suppressor.

Furthermore, they remain committed to American manufacturing, building all of their suppressors in Millcreek, Utah.

Griffin Armament EXPLORR

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021

Griffin Armament was a technology innovator in tubeless silencer design, developing the first commercially available tubeless suppressors in the US in 2010.  Early Gate-Lok™ cans like the M4SD2 and M4SD as well as the first-generation Recce cans were tubeless designs.  Tubeless designs are relatively featureless compared to user serviceable and modular suppressors; however, they can be made very lightweight due to not having a double walled material thickness like traditional tubed silencers and baffles.  Deleting the outer tube helps reduce weight of the system but also imposes other engineering hurdles that can be difficult to overcome.  Ten years after Griffin’s initial innovation into tubeless suppressors the company introduced a new tubeless series, the EXPLORR® suppressors. These suppressors sought to push the limits of what was capable. Using new tubeless designs, the 30 caliber EXPLORR was only 12 ounces in a full 17-4 stainless steel design and utilized tig autogenous welding.  The goal was to create dedicated rifle suppressors that nearly matched the lightweight specifications common to full titanium suppressors.

Shortly after this however, laser welding became market viable and was incorporated into the build process, prompting the next generation EXPLORR® suppressors allowing even further reduced weights to the tubeless class.  Additionally, ECO-FLOW™ baffle technology was integrated to the EXPLORR® series further reducing gas blow back and allowing for the most optimal sound suppression balance at the ear and the muzzle. The Taper Mount -RI™ (Rapid index) system has also been added to the new EXPLORR® generation allowing a faster install along with Griffin’s trademark low profile flash suppressor end cap to ensure total system performance.  Lastly, the line has expanded to a total of 4 suppressors.  Two dedicated Taper Mount -RI™ versions and two 1.375×24 utility mount versions or HUB (hybrid universal base) as this thread pitch is becoming known, comprise the series.  The 1.375×24 HUB mount versions are extremely versatile allowing for Griffin Taper Mount interface, (they ship with Griffin’s PLAN-A adapter), A2 mount, 3 lug mount and more.

Austin, Owner and lead design engineer at Griffin Armament stated,

“I believe tubeless suppressors are closing on the limits of lightweight performance and durability. Ten years ago if someone told me we were going to make a 10 ounce, welded 300 win mag rated suppressor I wouldn’t have believed them. We always strive to be better.  We want to make a better product, that’s lighter, more quiet, durable, and with better features.  We did that here. The new EXPLORR™ series was designed to provide users with the lightest, most accurate, and durable suppressors on the market, hands down.  You’ll find a host of special features on our cans and the EXPLORR® is no different.  The weight specs and performance of this series is unbelievable. This can family is designed for guys who love shooting rifles with cans.  We’re excited to launch the EXPLORR® and I believe it will help keep Griffin at the forefront of suppressor offerings.  As always, I’d like to say thank you to all our great customers, without you we wouldn’t be able to have the careers that we love.”

This photo demonstrates weld technology advancements from early generation tubeless suppressors to current day (2021). Left: A circa 2012 (early generation) tubeless Griffin M4SD suppressor, crushed under 15 tons of pressure. Note bulges and split welds. Middle: Griffin EXPLORR® gen 2, laser welded suppressor crushed under 15 tons of force. Note, all welds are intact. Right:  Griffin EXPLORR® gen 2, laser welded suppressor crushed under 60 tons of pressure.  Note, all welds are still intact despite immense crushing force.

Black Collar Arms SBD

Monday, December 13th, 2021

Austin, TX (December, 2021) — The culmination of extensive testing and development, Black Collar Arms is thrilled to announce the launch of our SBD line of integrally suppressed firearms. In partnership with AB Suppressor we have created a compact, lightweight, accurate, and highly capable system that is among the quietest centerfire rifle caliber setups ever made.

Black Collar Arms currently builds SBDs in three flavors: Rifle, Modular Integral Pistol, and Modular SBR.

Rifle: 16.25-inch legal length with permanent, all-titanium, integral suppressor made by AB Suppressor (one-stamp gun). Available in our Pork Sword Chassis with folding Stock Option and SD Handguard (~6 lbs 13 oz) or in a custom-inletted Grayboe Ridgeback stock with Grayboe DBM (~8 lbs 6 oz). The SBD rifle is an insanely quiet gun that’s fully suppressed within the length of a standard, 16-inch rifle, and it’s only 27 inches long with its Stock Option folded! Chambered in 300 Blackout, .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, or 375 Raptor.

Modular Integral Pistol: Available only in 300 Blackout. A 6.5-inch 1:5 twist barrel in our Pork Sword Chassis, ready to accept the Picatinny rail-compatible pistol brace of your choosing (or file a Form 1 to SBR it and pick up a Stock Option after approval). Removable AB Suppressor Raptor 7.62 silencer with 5-inch reflex mount and 5/8×24? flush mount, available with either 6 baffles or 8 baffles. This is a one-stamp gun (standard transfer on the pistol, one Form 4 for the silencer). In a 5.0-pound package, the SBD Modular Integral Pistol provides all the badass looks and much of the sound suppression performance of an integrally suppressed firearm, but the silencer is removable! Now you can have your integral cake but use it on other firearms as well.

Modular SBR: Just like the Modular Integral Pistol, but it ships from Black Collar as a factory SBR with our folding Stock Option already mounted. This is a two-stamp gun (one Form 4 for the SBR, one for the silencer).

SBDs are custom built to order on Black Collar Arms’ Pork Sword Custom Actions (a version of the fantastic Bighorn Origin) with uniquely purpose-built, match-grade barrels. While integrally suppressed firearms have historically earned a reputation for excessive weight and poor accuracy, neither is the case with the SBD. In fact, we have achieved the same length, weight, and accuracy of a high quality, unsuppressed 16-inch rifle all with some of the most effective sound suppression in the world built right in.

For more information, technical specifications, and photos/videos, or to configure your own SBD, visit Black Collar Arms HERE.

Note to customers and potential customers who have been keeping an eye on us, waiting patiently for our Pork Sword Chassis and Stock Options to return to in-stock status: 2021 has been a whirlwind, and as we complete the move into a new facility we’re quickly getting caught up thanks, in part, to increased production capacity coming online. We will satisfy any backorders and wait-list customers first, and this process is built into the custom-made SBD lead time stated on our site. In early 2022 we will be expanding our customer service team to better serve our customers via email and phone. Black Collar originally earned a stellar reputation for thorough responsiveness only to screw that up over the last year amid incredible supply chain complications and general “growing pains.” We’re fixing this and we thank all of our amazing customers for their patience of late.

Silencer Central Announces Update to Suppressor Buying Process

Monday, December 13th, 2021

Sioux Falls, South Dakota – December 9, 2021 – Silencer Central, America’s largest silencer dealer, is proud to announce the eminent availability of electronic Form 4 applications—a major update to how the silencer buying process works, and a change that is expected to cut wait times for approvals down to as few as 60 days.

Silencer Central is allowing customers to buy now and will hold applications until the official implementation of eForm submissions, which is expected before the end of the month.

“With this upgrade, the ATF will accept electronic submissions from Silencer Central,” said Brandon Maddox, CEO of Silencer Central. “Silencer Central has tested this new system and the benefit is clear; wait times will be cut in half—and likely much more. Data entry has been one of the largest contributors to the ATF wait-times and backlogs. Now the data will begin in a digitized format and the process can focus on what matters most: approvals.”

Silencer Central has been on the front line of BETA testing the new process since day one. With more than 16 years of experience, Silencer Central has become the leading authority in suppressor sales and worked closely on the eForms testing process to help ensure that the new process is as efficient as possible.
