H&K G41C – One of the Coolest Guns Never Made

Friday, January 2nd, 2015

IMG_0782.JPG

Brought to life by TSC Machine, the H&K G41C is a never produced Carbine variant of the G41. The 5.56mm rifle was introduced by H&K in 1981 as a replacement for the HK 33 but dropped from the H&K lineup in 1996 primarily as I understand it, because the planned replacement of the Bundeswehr’s G3s with G41s never came to fruition due to costs associated with the reunification of Germany. A couple of design features you may find interesting are the forward assist and dust cover as well as the use of STANAG M16 magazines. Additionally, the original G41 had a wire carrying handle like the FN FAL and used the classic H&K roller delayed blowback system.

This home brew Carbine model is TSC Machine’s concept of what a G41C would look like if it were produced today, even down to the Tan color.

The weapon was however, built by H&K in a K configuration. Although, I’ve got to say, this doesn’t exactly look Kurz to me it was purportedly spoked to stand for Karabiner. Later, H&K standardized the C suffix for carbine.

Here’s One to Ponder – The Broomhandle Mauser

Saturday, December 27th, 2014

This is a prototype C96 Broomhandle Mauser pistol.

This is a Astra 900 Broomhandle along with its holster.

IMG_0689.JPG

Turns out, that cool wooden holster can be attached for use as a stock.

IMG_0688.JPG

So, it would seem that this would make it an NFA item if you attached the stock to the pistol, no? Actually, the answer is “no, it isn’t.” Due to the age and value of these guns, they are exempted by the ATF.

Beretta Announces The M9A3 Pistol

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014

M9A3-b

Recently, Beretta has announced the M9A3, the next generation of the M9 US Military Service Pistol. The M9A3 is being submitted via an Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) in accordance with the terms of the current M9 contract.

“The M9A3 represents the next generation military handgun utilizing the best of the legacy M9 combined with proven COTS modifications that increase performance and durability” stated Gabriele de Plano, Vice President of Military Marketing and Sales for Beretta USA. Mr. de Plano added, “After listening closely to the needs of U.S. Army and other Service small arms representatives, we determined the M9, much like its counterpart legacy weapon systems (M4, M16, M240, etc.), was capable of being upgraded through material and design changes. The resulting M9A3 we are offering to the DOD will likely cost less than the current M9 and answer almost all of the Services’ enhanced handgun requirements.”

The M9A3 features:

– A thinner grip
– Removeable, modular wrap-around grip
– 1913 accessory rail
– Removable front and rear tritium sights
– Extended barrel with threading for a suppressor
– 17-round sand-resistant magazine
– Improvement to various small components
– Comes in an Earth Tone finish

Additionally, an LE/Civilian variant will be launched at SHOT Show 2015, and is expected to be commercially available sometime in second quarter 2015.
