Daniel Defense Offering New Rail On Its DDM4 Rifles

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Daniel Defense has just unveiled their new DDM4 Rail which uses their patented Bolt-Up System, developed originally for the USSOCOM RIS II. Instead of 6 bolts, the DDM4 Rail only requires 4 bolts and lower rail in this model is closer to the barrel.

Interestingly, the new DDM4 Rail will only be available as part of an upper or full rifle configuration. Additionally, DDM4 versions traditionally offered with an Omega X or Omega X with FSP will be replaced with the DDM4 Rail. However, two of the Daniel Defense models will remain unchanged. The DDM4v7 series will continue to be built utilizing the Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail 12.0. Production of the Daniel Defense MK18 will will continue to include the RIS II designed for USSOCOM.

In a press release, Jordan Hunter, Marketing Manager at Daniel Defense related, “This one--piece design has a more narrow profile which lends itself to better weapon manipulation. Front and Rear Sling Adaptors are integrated into both the left and right side rails. The DDM4 Rail measures 1.9” wide, 2.165” high with an inner diameter of 1.08”.

Blade Show – Emerson Knives / Multitasker Tools

Friday, June 8th, 2012

One of the big draws at Blade Show is the Emerson Knives / Multitasker Tools collaboration of the EK-1 Multitool and EDC-1 Compact Multitool.

Featuring CNC machined billet “chomper” blades, and G10 handle scales, the EK-1 Multitool integrates a 3.125″ Tanto-style blade as well as a 3″ SARK style serrated blade, both with liner safety lock. There is also an Awl, Can Opener with Small Screwdriver Tip, Bottle Opener with Large Screwdriver Tip, and a Phillips No 1 Screwdriver. Additionally, the EK-1 accepts OTIS cleaning kit tool heads and comes packaged with a removable dental pick for reaching difficult crevices. Naturally, it also has a belt clip.

The EDC-1 Compact Multitool offers G10 scales and a chassis that is more reminiscent of a pocket knife. No pliers here, but it does include a 2.5″ Micro commander style knife blade with patented wave feature and liner lock safety. As you can see, there use also a removable prybar / gator wrench / bottle opener. Additional tools including an Awl with liner lock safety, Phillips No 1 Screwdriver, and Large Slotted Screwdriver. Don’t forget the belt clip.

Look for these collaborations to hit the street this September.

Polymer Magazines NOT Banned

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

In a classic, “What I meant to say was…” moment, Army spokesman Matt Bourke answered Military.com’s Matthew Cox’s questions about the TACOM message banning the use of polymer magazines. In a seeming reversal, Bourke explained that the TACOM Maintenance Information Message, published in its enirety here at SSD on May 11th, wasn’t direct in nature at all but rather informative.

So, game on. Use those commercial magazines at your own risk. Some are better than others.
