Train Safe Firearm Block

Monday, October 11th, 2010

John Carlin developed the Train Safe firearms block so that shooters could safely train with their issue or daily carry sidearm. The Train Safe block slightly protrudes from the barrel of the pistol and is brightly colored so there is no mistake that the weapon has been rendered safe. Additionally, the design prevents a round from being chambered. It is an inexpensive way to gain some peace of mind while training with firearms. To order the Train Safe, visit www.trainsafe.us.

Laser Battery Cap

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

We ran across this device at Modern Day Marine. The patent pending design from Elite Arms is designed to integrate with the stock battery caps on EOTECH optics. The Laser Battery Cap does exactly what the name implies. It provides an eye safe red laser that emits right from the sight. It is waterproof and relies on the same battery as the optic it is attached to providing an integrated solution. They are working on caps for additional optics. Dry Fire Training Using Lasers

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Laser Ammo Ltd. manufactures the patent pending SureStrikeâ„¢ dry fire system which is designed to turn your pistol into a laser emitting dry-fire training gun. It does this by having dimensions similar to those of a standard ammunition cartridge. You load the device into the weapon’s chamber though the breech and it is held in place with a safety pipe and nut.

Activated only by a firing pin strike, the SureStrike emits eye-safe laser pulse, or a “shot” of red light, which simulates the point of impact where a bullet fired from the pistol, would have struck providing immediate feedback to the shooter.

SureStrike practice helps to improve techniques related to sighting, target acquisition, flinching, trigger control, etc. The shooter can also practice drawing, chambering, magazine change, racking the slide, and holstering, all resulting in better performance, even under pressure. An additional benefit is that all of this is done with the shooter’s own weapon rather than a simulator pistol.

Incorporated in the SureStrike training kit is the UhrSecureâ„¢ safety system, which locks the laser cartridge into the chamber with a safety pipe and nut that prevents the loading of a live round. The UhrSecure safety system provides a visual and physical indication of the secure nature of the firearm and enables safe use of the kit for both single and multiple users. The SureStrike has been tested by the Israeli secret service, the IDF anti-terrorism school and Israeli police.

The SureStrike laser training system is under warranty to provide 5,000 “shots”. If needed, an inexpensive replacement activation cap is available to guarantee another 5,000 shots. The SureStrike laser training system comes with a 9mm SureStrike laser cartridge, the UhrSecure safety system, a quick-user guide, battery pack and five reflective targets based on classic law enforcement standards, all in a convenient carrying case.

Adapters are available for .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .45 GAP, .45LC revolvers, and 12 gauge shotguns. Also available are replacement activation caps that allow the SureStrike to function as a bore sight, work with some of the market’s leading weapon simulation systems, activate electronic targets, and even use variable laser beam duration for advanced technique analysis.

No, we haven’t used it but it looks like it will give better feedback than dry firing with a washer on the barrel. Additionally, we like the idea that a live round can’t accidentally be chambered with the device installed.

M24E1 is Now the XM2010

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Recently Remington was awarded a contract to upgrade up to 3,600 M24 Sniper Weapon Systems to .300 Win Mag in addition to a few other upgrades such as an improved chassis. Originally, this new variant was referred to as the M24E1, but the Army’s PEO-Soldier is now referring to it as the XM2010. An “X” designation before an M model number denotes experimental. 250 of the Enhanced Sniper Rifles will be fielded to deployed Snipers beginning in December.

PEO-Soldier also released some photos of the new XM2010 complete with Leopold optics and AAC supressor. Unfortunately, the weapon is completely Black. Hopefully the fielded systems will be in Flat Dark Earth or another color more appropriate for use in combat.

For more information visit PEO-Soldier.

Crane Awards Visible Assets, Inc. Contract for Weapon Shot Counters

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Visible Assets, Inc.announced that it has been awarded a five year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Contract by Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division for up to US$5 million for RuBee™ weapon shot counter tags in response to Request For Proposal N0016410RJN87 “Weapon Shot Counter”. They will be used on the SCAR (MK16/MK 17) and M4 supporting weapon service life, overall weapon maintenance, and the prevention of catastrophic weapon failures. An initial $637,563.00 Purchase Order was placed for RuBee Ruggedized HandHeld Readers and RuBee shot counter tags.

Unique chip designs help reduce power consumption so the tags have a minimum five year battery life to a maximum fifteen year battery life in normal field use with conventional coin size Li batteries. Long battery life wireless tags make it possible to permanently seal tags into a MIL-STD-810G rugged package. The advanced state machine CPU contained in the tags is capable of providing complex real-time signal processing, waveform analysis, round interval statistics and a programmable predictor of barrel wear based on barrel temperature histograms. Independent test of the VISIBLE shot counter have consistently shown a 99% or better accuracy in basic shot counting mode. The tags can also facilitate improved weapons accountability.

John K. Stevens, CEO of Visible Assets, Inc. said, “This award represents an important milestone for our company. We have made a major investment in this technology and have worked hard over last several years to meet the high standards set by the US military for a combat based weapon shot counter. We are excited to have the opportunity to work with the experts at Crane as a result of the award. This award will help optimize our current weapon shot counting tag with many additional battlefield features so we can improve safety, reliability and performance of mission critical weapons used by our troops”
