The M320 Holster You’ve Been Looking For

Friday, November 26th, 2010

In March, we introduced you to S&S Precision’s Holster for the M320 Grenade Launcher. Simple, yet effective, it provides a carrying solution yet unmatched.

Overall, Soldiers like the new M320 40mm Grenade Launcher but prefer to carry it in the stand alone configuration due to its weight and attached aiming device. Employing the weapon in this fashion also has the added bonus that the Grenadier will concentrate on using the launcher as a primary weapon rather than an add-on the M16/M4.

The issue with this is how to carry it. Soldiers have dreamed up several Rube Goldberg contraptions to secure the weapon when not in use. However, the best answer I have seen is the Grenade Launcher Holster from S&S Precision. Available in left and right versions, the mounting systems allows the holster to be attached to the armor at virtually any angle. Since most troops use the launcher with butt stock, there is also a paddle available for the holster to allow it to be hip mounted.

The launcher is held in place by a molded plastic shroud that grips the barrel. Additionally, the barrel sits atop a plug that features an O ring designed to keep debris out of the muzzle. The Grenade Launcher Holster also comes with a bungee to further secure the weapon when needed.

I highly recommend that Grenadiers take a look at this solution. It is also something that the folks at PM-Individual Weapons should consider. The holster is available from Grey Group.

SureFire Wins USSOCOM VBL-H & VBL-III Contracts

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Early this year, Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane released a solicitation for a new generation of Very Bright Lights. Several companies answered the call and Crane has awarded contracts to SureFire for their HellFighter, M620V Scout Light®, and the M720V RAIDâ„¢ that we wrote about at SHOT Show 2010. Two types of Very bright Lights were selected. The VBL-H (visible bright light heavy) and VBL-III. Both contracts are Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity.

The VBL-H contract is for $16.6 million and will field the HellFighter as a heavy weapons light. The HellFighter is no stranger to SOF troops and models were purchased under a similar contract a few years back. It is designed for use with weapons such as the the M2, illuminating out to over 800 yards. It’s also been used for IED detection. This unit is specific to the needs of the Department of the Navy and is technically the fourth variant. Variants II and III are being tested by other branches of the United States Military.

The VBL-III contract is valued at $14.9 million contract, fielding personal weapon lights for members of USSOCOM. The two light that were chosen feature LED lamps that provide both white and IR light. To choose one or the other the user simply pulls out and twists the head to switch between the modes. The RAID also features additional functionality as you can see on the photo.

HAMR is Enroute to the Objective

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

FNH put together a pretty slick video showcasing their various weapons. Yes, some of the background noise is a bit contrived in the beginning but what do you want, it’s marketing. Give it a second to get rolling and then just sit back and enjoy. It even features the recently released Heat Adaptive Modular Rifle (HAMR).

Daniel Defense and Vickers Tactical Team Up to Produce Instructional Videos

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Larry Vickers recently invited SSD to C2 Shooting Center for a behind the scenes glimpse of production of his instructional training videos. Produced by Daniel Defense, filming was conducted by his very accomplished crew from Tactical Impact. Fourteen very lucky students were invited in for two days of free training from Larry Vickers. In exchange for the free training, they will be immortalized along with Larry on his multi-disc Blue Ray tactical carbine and handgun videos.

In fact, these should be available for order next week on Black Friday. Keep your eyes peeled for word on www.DanielDefense.com as well as www.VickersTactical.com. They are great for those students who can’t make it to a Vickers course, as a refresher for previous students, or as sheer entertainment for the enthusiast. Larry Vickers is a wealth of knowledge and spends ample time providing insight on why he uses the TTPs he does as well as a constant running history lesson.

New Tactical Tailor Covert Carry Case

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Tactical Tailor has been quietly revamping their line over the last year and recently unveiled a slick new Covert Carry Bag. When you look at the exterior the radiused lines don’t give away the contents like so many ‘boxy’ bags do, which almost scream “gun!” Additionally, the two tone color scheme, despite being in what are traditionally, ‘tactical’ colors help to soften the image. The bag features wrap around handles so you won’t drop your bag and two exterior pockets as well as a clear ID pocket.

When zipped fully open the padded bag can be used as a shooting mat and integrates three fully adjustable weapon tie downs. Additionally, the center spine of the bag will accommodate a one piece cleaning rod. The mesh pocket is designed to accommodate manuals as well as items such as ear plugs. The two zippers in the interior are to access the foam padding. As you can see, the sample we examined fits a standard 16″ carbine fully assembled and it is our understanding Tactical Tailor will offer additional sizes. Constructed of 1000D Cordura nylon and padded with closed cell foam rubber, the Covert Carry Case we saw was two tone Coyote Brown and Black but look for additional color combinations when it is released.
