CTC Defense Laser Sight Selected by Crane

CTC Defense, a division of Crimson Trace Corporation, has been selected by the Crane Division of Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) to supply the versatile LGD-645 Laserguard infrared laser sighting system for the Heckler and Koch HK45C handgun carried by members of Naval Special Warfare. This contract represents a significant number of Laserguards to be delivered over the span of 3 years and came after a considerable co-development effort between NSWC Crane and CTC Defense.

The LGD-645 is a rugged, waterproof and compact laser sighting device that attaches to the trigger guard of the HK handgun, offering instinctive activation of the IR laser onto the target

“CTC Defense is honored with the opportunity to take part in the process of conceiving, developing, and bringing to market, a completely new tool for today’s Warfighter”, said Dale Suzuki, Director of CTC Defense. “The CTC Defense team rapidly developed a product that adapts the latest laser sighting technology to solve issues of enhanced readiness, versatility, adaptability and simplicity with a product that, simply put, will save lives,” he added.

“CTC Defense is very pleased to have been selected by NSWC Crane to supply the LGD-645 infrared laser sights,” said Lane Tobiassen, President of Crimson Trace. “This competitive contract win validates our capabilities to rapidly co-develop, design and deliver critical equipment for today’s Warfighter,” he added.

Remington Arms CEO Resigns

Bloomberg.com reported on Friday that Remington Arms and Freedom Group CEO Ted Torbak has resigned effective 24 September and is taking a position with Cincinnati Bell Inc. Granted, Remington has filed for an Initial Public Offering, but Torbak is not a gun guy so we are not overly concerned with his leaving although we have heard that Torbak gave little notice of his departure. Remington continues to search for a new CEO.

Trade Your Stinky Kit for KAC Products

Grey Group Training is tired of seeing shiny crap kit in advertising and so is Knight’s Armament. They have teamed up with Knight’s Armament Corporation to present a contest that seeks used dirty real world plate carriers and armor carriers with pouches, patches, etc (don’t include armor, plates, mags, or sensitive items…) in exchange for prizes.

Here’s how it works. You post your pictures of your used kit on their Facebook page from now until 17 September and GGT will pick the 6 best sets of kit. Selectees ship their used kit to Grey Group (they pay the shipping), and the selectees receive prizes back from Knight’s as well as the bragging rights for their kit being used in KAC ads.

Knight’s is putting up everything from hand stops to Aimpoint mounts, apparel, rails, and even a SR 15E3 complete upper! So, start digging in the tough boxes in the garage, and get the camera ready. The more used the kit setups the better. Good luck!

Mad Duo – The Rifleman’s Tool

The Mad Duo attended Darley Defense Day held by Darley Defense near Ft. Polk last week and they promised us a couple of reviews. The first review is the Rifleman’s Tool, designed by none other than Walter “Blackie” Collins and coming to the fighting public via Tactical International. So, without further ado, here is their review.

We’re working on a full-blown, in-depth review right now but thought we’d give you the low-down quick and dirty now: this knife is COOL, and it really is more than just a knife—it’s a tool that may be the coolest thing that’s come along (at least in the category of lethal or hard-working cutlery) since the first multi-tool. Now, it’s not a Swiss Army Knife with a vast array of nifty gadgets, so don’t expect that. This piece of kit chooses a few things to do, specifically (as the name implies) for the rifleman, and it does it well.

The Rifleman’s Tool auto-deploys a strong 4” tanto style blade (non-auto versions coming), with the inestimable Mr. Collins’ signature on the side. Inside the body of the knife are several extremely useful implements for a rifle-shooter (particularly if the shooter is also an emergency responder). There’s a front sight adjustment tool, an aluminum shell extractor designed to avoid damage to the locking lugs on the M4 (you’ve seen it happen when someone grabs a multi-tool or a pair of pliers to do it), and a fire-starter that can also be used on the take-down pins to disassemble the weapon. All of these latter tools are accessed by unscrewing the threaded carbide glass-breaking pieces at the end of the knife.

The only thing some people might not like is going to be the price—we’ve seen it as high as nearly $400, averaging about $350 depending upon the retailer. Now, that’s actually not a bad price for a tool of this quality and potential usefulness, but you’re going to have to wrap yourself around the fact that you get what you pay for. This may also be the time you need to use the “yeah but look how many pairs of shoes you have!” argument with Household-6 in order to justify the expense. Note: Going Loud Tactical Outfitters carries the Rifleman’s Tool and is apparently running a special for a little while; enter SoldierSystems as a coupon code at checkout for 15% off the Rifleman’s Tool ($250.00 retail at Going Loud)…we’re not sure how long it’s supposed to last.

The Rifleman’s Tool is also available at Tactical International ($450.00) and DPMS Inc. ($378.00). Rumor has it that Darley Defense may also be offering the tool, but as of this date we couldn’t confirm that.

Midwest Industries and US PALM Collaborate on Optics Compatible AK Fore End Covers- Updated

Midwest Industries and US PALM have collaborated on a new series of top covers for the fore ends of AK family weapons. They are specifically designed to mount optics with the first dedicated to the Aimpoint T/H 1 series. This model allows for a lower 1/3 co-witness with your stock sights. Since they won’t start showing up until October this is really just a sneak peek. Five different models will be available this Fall.

UPDATE – The part will be sold as a retro fit [top cover only] for existing MI rail owners, as well as a in complete kit form. It also uses stock gas tube.

CTC Defense

It’s been in the works for some time but Crimson Trace just announced the formation of a new business unit dedicated to the military market. Tactical-Life.com broke the story earlier today.

According to the article, “Among the introductory products that will be offered by CTC Defense is a pair of Lasergrips for the SIG Sauer P226. Affectionately known as the “dual can,” they incorporate both a red laser and an infrared (IR) laser for use with night vision.” Additionally, MVF-515 fore grip will be offered with not only a red but also a green laser.

Expect new products to begin to roll out at Modern Day Marine.

Reset RIPR (Rifle Integrated Power Rail)

Defense Review published an article on the new Reset RIPR (Rifle Integrated Power Rail). DR has some concerns about the RIPR and so do we. Not only is there possible issue with a central power source going down and taking all of the accessories with it, but the power source itself is of concern as well. Reset has come up with an interesting manner of attaching a battery. They are using a proprietary, rechargeable battery that connects to the rail similar to a Redi-Mag. As we have not actually handled a weapon equipped with the RIPR we are unable to ascertain how the battery affects weapon handling. However, the size and location is of concern. NATO definitely believes that powered rails are the future of small arms and there is a lot of work going on. We will continue to keep you updated on power rail technology.

The Aegis Industries Mark 63 Trident

At the upcoming New Breed of Warrior in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Aegis Industries will present a breakout session on the Mark 63 Trident.
