Marine Corps Considers Collapsible Buttstock

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

On February 27th the MARCORSYSCOM’s Program Manager for Infantry Weapon (PM IW) issued a Sources Sought Notice for a Collapsible Butt Stock for the M16A4 Marine Corps Service Rifle. The current fixed stock of the M16A4 becomes “an obstacle when combined with the increased bulk of improved body armor”. Consequently, they are looking for something to make the weapon a little more accommodating to different body types.

The Marine Corps’ requirements are pretty straight forward:

– It has to be collapsible

– They want a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of six (6) position stops in the butt stock for adjustment

– The new stock has to be just as reliable as the current stock if not better

It is important to note that there is no solicitation document to actually purchase any collapsible stocks but it is an important first step in that direction.

Milkor USA displayed the latest incarnation of their rotary 40mm Grenade Launcher at NAVEXFOR. USSOCOM recently fielded 230 of the new Mk14 Mod0 (NSN 1010-01-568-3179). Additionally, the M2A1 Reflex Sight is seeing some success on its own. Magna-Matic CRT-15

I completely overlooked this gem at SHOT Show. The CRT-15 Carbon Removal Tool from Magna-Matic Corp is an innovative bolt cleaning tool for the AR-15 family of weapons. Specifically, it is designed to get at the hard to clean surfaces of the bolt carrier and the bolt tail (of any radius dimension). Made in the USA, the CRT-15 is compact (5.4 inch long) and light (3.2 oz). Its hardened steel precision construction for long lasting quality, and 100% corrosion resistance is great in the field.

For more information visit Magna-Matic Corp. The CRT-15 is available in March from Tactical Response Gear.

C.A.T. M4 Tool

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

The M16 family of weapons has been the standard rifle of the Arsenal of Democracy for over 40 years and yet, there have been few attempts at producing proper cleaning tools. To be sure, there are lots of expedient devices such as dental pics, but nothing has ever been specifically tailored for the role. Two Special Forces veterans were sitting around a table discussing just this dilemma. Their concern was that they were employed as small arms marksmanship and tactics trainers and their students couldn’t adequately maintain their weapons. As they began to go back and forth on desirable features for such a tool, a sketch began to form. That drawing became the M4 Tool and those two veteran gunfighters formed Combat Application Tools, Inc.

CAT M4 Features

As you can see in the diagram, the patented M4 Tool features five specific capabilities to clean the M16 family of weapons. It is is American Made and cast from 400 series stainless steel while the bolt cleaning chamber is CNC machined to precisely fit a mil-spec bolt. During a demonstration of the tool on a recent trip to Fayetteville, it made quick work of an outrageously dirty carbine bolt and carrier group. It is also lightweight, compact, and designed to work with the small tool heads supplied as part of SOPMOD.

To order visit www.catm4.com. Combat Application Tools, Inc. is looking for retailers for the M4 Tool.

Additionally, the CAT M4 Tool is available from Blackheart International.
