Battle Systems took the standard All Purpose Adhesive Light Strips (APALS) by Brite-Strike Technologies and added hook Velcro to the rear to integrate with their Marker Panel, Individual, LW Modular Signal System.
Battle Systems carries 3 APALS types: IR (Mil/LE; US Only), Red, and Green.
The Waterproof, Dustproof, and Shockproof APALS features 3 operational functions: Fast Strobe/Slow Strobe/Steady On/Off with visibility up to 1/2 mile and 80+ hours run time.
Although this new mirror came out right before SHOT Show I waited until now to tell you about it so that it wouldn’t get caught up in the whirlwind. Battle Systems offers some really great products and this is one of them. The Compact Emergency Signal Mirror is intended as a modular accessory to their Marker Panel, Individual, LW (MPIL). These are made in the USA exclusively for Battle Systems LLC by SI Howard Glass, Inc and feature a true retroreflective aiming grid and hook velcro on the back for attaching to the MPIL’s loop fields or for storage in pouches with loop fields.
I’ve mentioned the Marker Panel, Individual, LW Mk 1 before. If you need a panel marker then this is the one for you. It’s lightweight, durable and effective. The latest version is Made in USA. It goes from a compact 2.5″ x 2.5″ x .75″ to a full 17″ x 17″ with orange and pink sides for marking or signaling.
The first time I saw the Marker Panel, Individual, LW (as in lightweight) from Battle Systems, LLC I said to myself, “Self, why hasn’t anyone done this before?” I already knew that Battle Systems offers some bad ass tape in the form of Vinyl Tape, Coyote Brown so their dedication to quality is for me, without question. The MPIL is a great alternative to carrying a full-size VS-17 panel. Most folks just don’t need the whole thing and cut them down to size for individual use. Even then, the material doesn’t pack down well. The Marker Panel, Individual, LW on the other hand does.
It is so compact, it literally fits the palm of your hand and folds out to 16″ x 16″ with orange and pink sides just like a full-size VS-17. There are 550 loops in each corner to facilitate mounting the MPIL to gear or for use in conjunction with others for DZ and LZ marking. It can also be used to mark vehicles. Battle Systems uses the National Molding Large Poli Bina Clips to attach the MPIL to equipment. Finally, each side of the MPIL has a color matched Velcro loop patch to accept a removable 2″ x 2″ IR reflective square patch.
As you can see from this photo, the MPIL REALLY reflects light and we had to tone down the photo a little so you could look at it.
The currently available MPIL Mk I’s are assembled in the USA from a combination of US and foreign materials but that was just s stopgap to get these rolling. They don’t have enough on hand to even remotely approach the Berry threshold. The Mk II will be available very soon, manufactured entirely of US materials.
Battle Systems LLC gave us a sneak peek of their new marker panel. It is made from much lighter materials, allowing the user to fold it up and stash it in a shoulder pocket or admin pouch without hinderance. It also features a loop Velcro square on each side for a 2″x2″ IR reflective patch which they’ll be offering as a drop-down menu item.
This is a great size for 99% of uses. Sure, some units will still need to use full size VS-17 panels but the average guy cuts his down anyway to save space and weight.
Battle Systems offers 3/4″ wide Vinyl Tape. It is Coyote and features a matte finish and comes in 60′ rolls. We purchased some awhile back and have been using it around the homestead for a variety of tasks although mainly on gear. We tried to set fire to it but it wouldn’t burn. Conversely, it remained sticky in spite of dousing it with water.
It’s a simple product with a 1000 uses. Best of all, it blends in with your gear. We like it and recommend it. Everyone should have a roll.
