Contour

After shutting down last year, Contour is back and under new management. They relaunched their official website, and are once again offering the classic Contour+2 and waterproof Roam2 cameras. In the coming months, they plan to launch new cameras that will feature the traditional Contour design features: slide-to-record switch, laser alignment system, and 270° rotating lens.

Contour cameras were popular do to their simplicity, ruggedness, and wide accessory support, so it’s great to see their return to the market.

Will Contour Be Back?

Monday, November 4th, 2013

If Clarke Capital Partners has anything to say about it, Contour, makers of action cameras is coming back after closing its doors in August. Clarke Capital Partners were the high bidders at $1.925 million for the defunct company’s assets during a competitive auction by a court-appointed receiver. Geek Wire reports that while the sale has been approved by the court, it still needs to be finalized by the parties. CCP was an investor in Contour before it went out of business. Apparently, operating capital was its major challenge, defaulting on nearly $7.5 million in loans prior to closing.

We wish them well as the Contour has been very popular with shooters due to its tubular shape and mounting options,

Contour Apparently Closes Doors

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013

Brier Dudley’s Blog at the Seattle Times website reported last week that camera maker Contour has closed its doors.

Geekwire added, “As of Friday Contour is CLOSED,” wrote Jacob Hase, the company’s former social media manager, in a public post on his personal Facebook page this week. ”Ya, it shocked all the employees even more. Incredibly hard to just walk away from something you put so much energy into.”

Attempts to purchase products are met with “temporarily out of stock” notices.

Guess I won’t be getting that sample of the latest model to try out after all. I gave the first one they sent to me to a tactical trainer. Hopefully, we’ll see some good footage from him in the future. This closure is unfortunate for the shooting sports and training community as the Contour’s shape is well suited to use mounted coaxially to firearms and helmets.

StrikeMark – Digital Camera Picatinny Rail Mount

Friday, February 24th, 2012

StrikeMark is quickly becoming the leader in weapon mounts for cameras. Previous mounts have been designed specifically for the most popular personal video systems. But not everyone owns a Contour or GoPro so StrikeMark went back to the drawing board to develop the Universal mount.

The entire line of mounts is intended to allow you to produce Point of View videos. You can shoot first-person-shooter style videos or reverse the camera and watch yourself in action.

This new mount is CNC machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum and then black powder coat finish. Mil Std 1913 (Picatinny) compatible, it integrates a 1/4 x 20 thread to accept the camera. This is the same thread that is used on tripods.

Compatible with the Sony Cyber-Shot (Cybershot), Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung, Casio, Kodak, GoPro, Contour, Panasonic, Fujifilm, Olympus, Insignia. Basically, if you can mount it to a tripod, you can mount it to this mount.
