Like clockwork, FirstSpear issues a new catalog twice a year and while this latest version doesn’t have a lot of new items, it does add additional colors and gives FS a chance to catch up a little.
The FirstSpear Forager Cap remains one of my favorite hats. This week, we’ll focus on it and tell you about some upcoming color options.
Available in Standard and Low Profile variants, the Standard Forager Cap features a slightly longer brim than other caps that gives extra shade. Yet, both versions have a preformed, foldable bill that makes it a snap to store flat in your pocket.
You’ll also notice that there are slits, called eyeglass channels, for the temple pieces of your eyepro designed to make sure your glasses won’t go anywhere when stored above the brim.
The unique back hook strap combines stretch as well as a great deal of mechanical adjustment thanks to the buckle and loops. The Forager is also lined with an ultra light weight mesh for ventilation and wicking.
The front of the cap has a light weight breathable low nap pile from Velcro that will let you place a FS Cell Tag, PVC Patch or other ID marking. Additionally, the front breathable panel is embroidered with the FS logo if you don’t want to wear a patch.
Currently offered in Black, Coyote and MultiCam. Now hear this; Manatee Grey and Ranger Green are now availble for preorder with shipping at the beginning of August. Sizing info is below.
In honor of Independence Day FS is offering FREE domestic ground shipping on your entire cart through the weekend.

This week we focus on an FS product that’s been around for awhile. Offered in both Carbine and Long Gun lengths, the FirstSpear Arms Case is a modular carriage and storage solution for your weapons. What’s more, these fit inside Storm cases for storage and transport.
Boasting haul loops on either end as well as a wrap around handle, the Arms Case also offers an external storage pocket with a Velcro panel for removable identification markings.
The carbine length Arms Case is 36″ and the long Gun variant is 43″. As you can see, the interior features 6/12 slots and the weapon tiedowns can be configured to accommodate a variety of weapons. Both will accept scoped weapons with standard 20 or 30 round magazines attached as well as a removable 6/12 Organizer Panel which allows you to configure the interior how you see fit. It attaches to the interior of the Arms Case via “G” Hooks and when removed, can be hung on a hook, nail or door knob while you reconfigure your kit. But for the Arms Case, modularity goes beyond just setting the interior up. In addition to managing your internal configuration, you can also integrate the entire Arms Case into many hard cases as a padded weapon insert in order to consolidate your gear and protect it for long haul transportation.
The Arms Case closes with a 3/4 zipper that allows you to open it flat.
Additionally, it accepts an optional shoulder strap for ease of carry.
FS Shoulder Strap and 6/12™ Organizer Panel are sold separately. Shipping now in in Black and Coyote.
Carbine 36″ x 13″ (fits Storm case iM3100, not included)
Long Guns 43″ x 13″ (fits Storm Case iM3200, not included)
For this week’s Friday Focus, we’re taking a look at a collaborative product of FirstSpear and K2 Solutions: the ECV or Ergonomic Canine Vest.
After two years of internal research and development, K2 and FirstSpear are pleased to roll out the first product in their joint tactical canine line. The K2-FirstSpear Ergonomic Canine Vest was designed by K2’s military working dog Veterinarian to allow for uninhibited stride and shoulder movement. Within the working dog industry, canine vests are used to carry communication devices, GPS and surveillance systems, medical kits, battery packs, and more. Current vest and harness designs tend to be heavy and only focus on load bearing capacity and equipment requirements. However, the handler must account for the payload’s impact on the working dog’s musculoskeletal system, mental and physical health, and performance longevity to maximize mission success.
Current vests and harnesses mimic human backpacks, where the main stabilization elements place majority of the load burden on the shoulders and scapulae of the canine. However, the canine skeletal system lacks a collar bone, contrary to humans, making shoulder-bearing loads prohibitive for performance. A canine’s forearms are connected to their body by a girdle of muscle, soft tissue, and skin. Vests designed to place the load on the canine’s shoulders and scapulae are inherently flawed for canine use and drastically impede the full range of motion of the canine forelimb. This severely impacts performance, muscle and joint health, and can result in injury or premature degradation of the canine musculoskeletal system. Moreover, effective equipment weight distribution must account for the canine’s stride and weight shifting in multiple directions simultaneously during patrol.
The Ergonomic Canine Vest is equipped with FirstSpear’s proven patent pending ultra-light 6/12 technology that drastically reduces weight when compared to standard MOLLE style vests and is fully compatible with FirstSpear’s lightweight 6/12 pockets as well as legacy MOLLE style pockets. The 6/12 field extends the entire height and length of the lateral midline, providing you with maximum position options for custom integration of your mission-specific equipment and sensors. The incorporated “Y” strap on the chest also places the main stabilizing anchor of the vest mid-sternum, as opposed to on the forelimbs seen with competing vests. The firm but cushioned ventral padding rests securely on the thorax and the dorsal region is equipped with loop on the upper and lower surfaces to allow for integration of custom K2-FirstSpear tactical canine accessories.
The ECV is the first of many revolutionary new products FirstSpear and K2 have developed to better serve the warfighter and law enforcement officer. Look out for more professional canine and handler products in the coming months. Pre-order now with Summer 2016 delivery.
Every once in awhile during the FirstSpear Friday Focus, they like to concentrate in their OEM partners. This time, it’s Hill People Gear and the Aston House Pack. The name of the pack has a rather interesting history. Also known as ‘Station 12’ Aston House was the development lab for World War Two’s British Special Operations Executive. Although the pack has a great historical name as inspiration, it is fully modern, making use of FirstSpear’s 6/12 technology.
According the HPG, the overall size is 11″x8″x21″ with two compartments and a removable compression pocket/panel.
Removable load compartment
This is a 4″ deep compartment that can be accessed via zippers at both the top and bottom of the pack. It is meant for the heavier elements of your load. Additional features include:
-Slick interior to make removal of load cells (such as AstonInsert, Palspocket, Tarapocket, etc.) quick and easy.
-Dual hypalon load hangers at the top, one on each side of the compartment
-Top and bottom compression straps have two different tab sets they can be attached to for a standard or extra wide strap placement. Extra wide is meant to clear anything you might want to carry in the removable load compartment that needs to stick out of the top of the pack.
-The outer sides of this compartment have First Spear 6/12 slot pockets with a 2 channel PALS grid cut into them.
-There is a plastic insert between this compartment and the next to help support load elements suspended from the hypalon load hangers.
Organizer compartment
This is a contoured 4″ deep compartment that is accessed via a generous zippered panel. It includes:
-Fully lined with 6/12 PALS cut fabric, velcro loop side out. This lets you use either PALS or velcro backed pouches to organize this pocket.
-Hypalon load hanger array at the top
-Aston Pocket
This is a removable compression pocket / panel that comes with the pack. It has the following features:
-Full zipper panel access
-3 vertically stacked slot pockets on inner surface
-Single mesh pocket on rear surface
-Scalloped hypalon load control detail that terminate in compression strap attachment slots
-External loop cord attachment points
