OR – Petzl

Friday, January 8th, 2016

Petzl has introduced the TOUR, an ultralightweight new climbing harness. It weighs 200 grams, even with an integrated belay loop, and can be dined without lifting your feet off the ground. The coloring helps out as well. The dark color goes to the outside and lighter tone toward the inside.

If that isn’t light enough, the new ALTITUDE is 150 grams lighter. This weight savings is due to the fused frame technology consisting of leg loops and waist that incorporate infused Dyneema. This thing is amazing.

Petzl has unveiled their first aluminum crampon, the LEOPARD (front) and man, is it light at 330 grams. It is available with Flexlock or Leverlock FIL attachment which weighs 369 grams. The IRVIS (rear) is a hybrid design with a steel toe for durability. It weighs 460 or 495 grams depending in the attachment system.

Additionally, all of Petzl’s carabiners now feature an I-frame construction which is lighter.

They also offer QR codes for PPE inspection.

The TIBLOCK now has an integrated plastic spring head which forces the teeth to properly set on the rope. The old version could sheath the rope if improperly seated.

As was originally revealed at the 2014 SHOT Show, Petzl is now starting to offer the Tactikka+ and STRIX headlamps with Berry complaint headbands. This allows the DOD to buy the lamps through their TLS contract bids and TLS approved dealers; previously, the headlamps had to be purchased by the DOD without headbands.

Currently, the Tactikka Black and Desert models are available with Berry compliant headbands. The STRIX Black will be available starting June 19th, and the STRIX Desert will be available starting July 3rd. These straps are designed to work with the Tactikka RGB & + models, and the STRIX VL & IR models.

OR Summer Market – Petzl

Thursday, August 7th, 2014

The Tactikka + and Tactikka +RGB we mentioned at SHOT Show are in inventory and now shipping. They offer up to 140 lumens and the Tactikka + now includes an integral Red LED rather than the old flip up filter. These run off of constant light technology meaning the light will stay constant for the prescribed rating over the life of the battery. They use 3 AAA batteries with easy access to the compartment.

Petzl also introduced a new buckle on the headband that is crush tested to 80 kg so you won’t accidentally break the buckle. Another mounting option beside the headband is the Kit Adapt which uses adhesive to mount the lights directly to a variety of surfaces including helmets, walls, etc.

The lights are available in Black, Tan and Camo. Additionally, these are available in Berry compliant models (Tan and Black). These are the first Berry options from Petzl and a great end of year purchase.

OR – Petzl Tactikka Plus

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

At Outdoor Retailer I got a chance to take a closer look at the Petzl Tactikka + we previewed about two weeks ago before SHOT Show.

20140123-100754.jpg

As you recall there are 2 models. The Tactikka + and the Tactikka + RGB. This is the first major upgrade to the Tactikka in a decade and they’ve not only improved functionality but also increased lumens by 140%! The difference between the two models is obviously price but the standard Tactikka + offers only white and red light while the Tactikka + boasts red! green or blue as well as white light. There are also slight differences in lumen output between the two models.

They will be available April 15th, 2014.

SHOT Show – Petzl

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Petzl has introduced Berry Compliant headbands which makes them easier to procure for military organizations. DoD organizations are not allowed to purchase clothing and textile items with a contract value in excess of $200,000. This restriction is extended to procurements via TLS because the threshold is applied to the annual contract rather than each individual sale.

The bands will be offered in Black and Desert and there will be separate models for the Tactikka and Strix.

Sneak Peek – Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB)

Thursday, January 9th, 2014

Petzl will be unveiling their new TACTIKKA + headlamp at SHOT Show. Featuring CONSTANT LIGHTING technology which means the light’s brightness does not decrease gradually as the 3 x AAA batteries are drained. It offers a maximum brightness of 100 lumens over a distance of 45 meters. With boost mode it gives temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

In addition to red filtered light as well as bright light, the TACTIKKA + has a strobe mode as well as a mode adapted for close range vision giving a mixed beam with wide, uniform flood and a mode adapted for movement with the beam’s focused component allows user to move around comfortably.

An additional model denoted by suffix RGB offers Red, Green and Blue lighting options. The Petzl TACTIKKA + RGB offers slightly more lumens than the standard model with 110 lumens at a distance
of 45 meters. Boost mode allows temporary access to a brightness of 125 lumens (50 meters).

The battery management features for both models are pretty interesting, allowing the user to easily anticipate battery replacement. It automatically switches to reserve mode when batteries are almost drained (signaled by blinking light). Additionally, red lighting switches on when batteries are practically empty to preserve a minimal amount of lighting.

As you can see, the new Petzl TACTIKKA + (RGB) models will be offered in MultiCam, Tan and Black.

20130125-133002.jpg

New for 2013 are the Laser, Laser Speed and Laser Speed Light. The common denominator to all of these is the new tooth. Rather than 6-7 mm tooth, they’ve cut it back to 4mm which offers quicker purchase in the ice making for a faster application of the ice screw. The orange colored shanks denote the Laser Speed Light screws which combine an aluminum shank with steel teeth press fit into the aluminum tube. This sheds about 30% weight.

Petzl has also introduced the Lim’ice, a $69 ice screw sharpening tool. No longer do you have to take a trip to Ouray Colorado to sharpen your ice screws. Now, you can do it right in the backcountry. This hand operated device allows you to file both sides of the tooth.

The new Tikka R+ and Tikka RXP have combined the reactive lighting of the Nao with the Tikka form factor. Reactive lighting optimizes the internal rechargeable battery and adapts to the amount of ambient light.
