In addition to debuting the ACU in A-TACS at SHOT Show, Propper is introducing an entirely new product in spring called the TAC.U. In this photo you may notice a couple of different things about the combat shirt. The first feature that will strike you is the padded shoulders but there is a lot more going on. This is the first combat shirt we have seen with both adjustable cuffs as well as thumb holes. There is also only one bicep pocket but both forearms incorporate pockets.
Additionally, a new pant is also coming in summer. Both garments have a slick aesthetic but you notice lots of features once you get up close. Many tactical clothing on the market is pretty busy so it is refreshing to see something that at least looks simpler. We must admit that some of this may actually be the A-TACS pattern which seems to blend into itself so well that it may be swallowing some of the lines. However, the TAC.U will be available in several other colors including MultiCam following the initial push.
More on the TAC.U soon.
We have received some additional details on Propper’s A-TACS ACU giveaway.
Propper will be giving away one set per day (ACU coat/trouser, TAC.U Combat Shirt and Boonie). You can enter up to twice a day by 1) entry from their A-TACS ad in the Show directory and 2) getting your badge scanned at their booth.
They will also be giving out a limited number of Propper A-TACS t-shirts to any one who comes to their booth inquiring about A-TACS.
Propper International will unveil its new A-TACS apparel collection at Shot Show. The line includes a mil-spec ACU coat and trouser, combat shirt and boonie, all in the revolutionary A-TACS pattern. The Propper A-TACS ACU is among the most anticipated A-TACS products launching worldwide and will serve as the core component of the product line, which includes boots from Danner, packs and nylon kit from Tactical Assault Gear, single or dual point gun slings from Blue Force Gear, and weapons and optics systems from Remington, Bushmaster and Bushnell. This broad collection of introductory products represents the first full head-to-toe concealment system offering to tactical professionals in the U.S. Additionally, Propper will be displaying the Antaeus combat pack from Arc’teryx that you read about here in November.
Visit Propper at booth #10764 for your chance to win an exclusive set of the full Propper A-TACS product line, before the products are available at authorized retailers.
According to a Sources Sought Notice released in November, it appears as if the Marine Corps has decided on a way ahead for a replacement for the Improved Load Bearing Equipment (ILBE) pack.
From the Notice:
The Program Manager Individual Combat and Equipment (PM ICE), Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM), is seeking industry input that identifies potential sources and best practice information regarding the manufacturing of a government-designed USMC Pack System. The USMC Pack System is similar to the US Army’s MOLLE Large and Assault Packs. The resultant System must be Berry Amendment compliant and as well as be produced at a rate which will result in a total of 108,000 Systems being delivered within 12 months of contract awards. It is anticipated that production would be satisfied through multiple contract awards.
Ironically, Marine Corps dissatisfaction with MOLLE spawned the ILBE program in the first place. Based on commercial backpacking technology, ILBE was developed by Arc’teryx and manufactured under license by Propper. The system includes a large internal frame pack, assault pack, hydration system, and waterproof liners. Issues with the design began to arise after the Marines began to use body armor with integral rear plates as standard issue. The internal frame ILBE was not designed to accommodate the added bulk of the plates and the Marines chose not to undertake a Product Improvement Program. The Marines Corps has looked at dozens of designs over the last two years including a proposal called the ‘WELBE‘ that would have modified their existing packs to accept the Mystery Ranch NICE frame.
Over the summer they announced they were going to conduct a limited test of “five Government owned pack designs”. This is a natural step in the development of a new material solution to avoid starting a new program when there is already a product that satisfies the requirement. If this Sources Sought Notice is any indication, they found their solution with MOLLE, or at least something similar.
Well look no further. Propper and A-TACS developer Digital Concealment Systems have just announced an agreement resulting in Propper offering an ACU cut uniform in the popular A-TACS pattern. Manufactured from 65/35 Poly Cotton, the ACUs are sewn to the same exacting specs as the issue gear. This means they will hold up to tough use and there are no unknowns when it comes to sizing. Look for the new uniforms in the Spring with Boonie Hats and Combat Shirts to follow.
The Propper ACUs join load carrying equipment from Tactical Assault Gear and slings and other specialized kit from Blue Force Gear.
Winter is here and Propper is offering deep discounts on their 7 layer Adventure Tech clothing system in order to make room for new products in the new year. This line will not be available in the future. Lots of great deals this week.
In order to increase responsiveness to this fast paced market, Propper has expanded their Military Division with some promotions as well as new hires in business development, research and development, and uniform technologies. Propper has assembled some of the top subject matter experts in the industry to focus specifically on the military market. While there are some new members of the team, not all of the faces in this expanded division are unfamiliar.
Stu Muladore was promoted last year to Vice President of Military Sales. Stu came to Propper after retiring from the Marines in 2007 and put his experience to work as Military Business Manager.
Greg Graves serves as Sales Manager for Federal agencies and brings a wealth of experience to the team. Greg, an Army veteran has been with Propper for 11 years and has developed an excellent relationship with his customer base whether military or federal agency.
Timothy Booth, an Experimental and Research Chemist brings over 22 years of experience in fabric treatment and finishing and will work with the military to improve FR and other protection properties such as insect repellancy.
Jonathon Long recently retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in charge of procurement at the contracting command in Kuwait. He brings his experience as an acquisitions professional to bear in his new position as Program Manager, Military Systems.
Joining the team as Design Director is Dan Bergeron who cut his teeth in the outdoor industry with Arc’teryx where he produced several iconic designs. Dan went on to work with both BAE and Eagle Industries before joining Propper.
Lonnie Braxton comes on as Director of Fabric/Business Development after many years with Milliken & Company and will focus on new applications for textile technologies.
As you can see, Propper has assembled an excellent team and I am excited about the possibilities in the coming year.
