SHOT Show 17 – MKEK MPT-76

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

MKEK’s MPT-76 or National Infantry Rifle is a modular battle rifle designed to replace the G3 currently in service with the Turkish Armed Forces. Chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO, the MPT features a free-floating, cold hammer forged 16″ barrel with a 1:10 twist rate, and a short-stroke gas piston system. A bit of AR influence can be found in the MPT’s design, in regards to the forward assist, rearward charging handle, and selector switch; these later two components, along with the magazine release are also designed to be ambidextrous. The MPT also features a retractible buttstock; modular quad rail forend; folding front and rear sights; 20-round translucent polymer magazine; and grenade launcher and shotgun interfaces.

SHOT Show 17 – Hardened Arms LumaShark

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

IMG_4474

The LumaShark is a free float handguard with dual integral CREE lights. The rail is constructed of 6061-T6 aluminum and is 12″ in length, with a monolithic top Picatinny rail, and M-LOK side and bottom slots. The 1150 lumen lights sit at the 6 o’clock position on the front end of the rail, and are activated via large, glove-friendly buttons. These buttons are pretty sensitive, so Hardened Arms also offers a more recessed button so accidental activation doesn’t occur during use. They run on CR123A batteries, which provide up to 1 hour of constant activation. As you can tell, the rail is rather wide, intentionally designed to allow clearance for a suppressor.

IMG_4476

The lights feature quick-change bulbs which can be removed via an included tool. Hardened Arms also offers an IR bulb and laser as replacement for the standard bulbs, as well as remote pressure pads. Hardened Arms’ developed the LumaShark principally for Military and LE sales, although it will be offered for general purchase as well.

SHOT Show 17 – Troy Defense

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Like last year, Troy Defense had a booth full of new products for the year. Here’s a few of the highlights:

Troy SOCC Battlemag

IMG_0047

Troy is going the way of the translucent polymer magazine with their new SOCC Battlemag. The translucent body allows shooters to see their current round count, and the texturization throughout the mag body allows for a positive grip when drawing the mag out of a pouch or from a weapon. The SOCC Battlemag is engineered to function with AR-15 variants, as well as the HK416 and FN SCAR, and is optimized for the M855A1 cartridge.

Troy SOCC PDW

IMG_0049

The SOCC PDW is a new iteration of Troy’s PDW rifle sporting all-new SOCC accessories, including the new SOCC folding BattleSights, the SOCC ambi selector switch, and the 7.2″ SOCC PDW BattleRail, which is M-LOK compatible. It also comes with a Tomahawk Short Stock, Claymore Muzzle rake, Troy extended ambi charging handle, and a Geissele G2S Trigger.

The MK12 Mod 1 is a reproduction of the MK12 Mod 1 variant used by SEALs and Army Rangers, and includes a 12th model muzzle brake w/ suppressor mount, A2 buttstock, harris bipod w/ mount, Troy swing swivel mount, Ergo grip, 2-point sling, and Troy 2-piece scope mount. SHOT Show 17 – Full Conceal

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Full Conceal has a booth at the SHOT Show NEXT Pavilion, a section intended to showcase brands never before seen at SHOT. Their product is an ultra-concealable modification for full and mid-sized pistols which cuts down the frame to a sub-compact size, roughly equivalent in size to a modern cell phone. The models on display at their booth were based around Glock series pistols, and Polymer80’s 80% Glock frame.

M1

IMG_4466

The M1 model cuts down the pistol’s frame to a sub-compact size, either a G17 or G19 with a magazine capable of holding 7+1 9mm rounds. A magazine holder capable of holding a 15-round 9mm magazine is integrated into the frame and is mounted via the accessory rail, giving a wielder a potential 23 rounds of 9mm carry ammo.

M2

IMG_4468

The M2 model is a bit more customized when compared to the M1 model. Rather than have a 7-round magazine loaded into the gun, and a full-size backup mag, it utilizes a full-size magazine with a rail-mounted baseplate that stores into the pistol grip/magwell via a cutout on the grip. The trigger is spring loaded and folds upward into the frame when the magazine is stowed. As you can see below, this configuration does remove the trigger guard.

Full Conceal is currently taking pre-orders for either model, which can be viewed at the link below.

SHOT Show 17 – Franklin Armory BFSIII

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

IMG_0033

Franklin Armory’s BFSIII or Binary Firing System III trigger is an interesting option for those looking for a non-standard fire control group for their AR rifle. It has a 4.5 lbs. trigger pull +/- .5 lbs., and aside from the standard safe and fire modes, it comes with a third ‘binary’ mode, which discharges a round upon pull and release. If the shooter wishes to disengage the second shot upon trigger release, they can simply move the selector to the standard fire position, and the binary mode will deactivate. Also included with the trigger is a heavier buffer spring, which reduces the possibility of hammer follow.

IMG_0037

Franklin Armory’s BFSIII is compatible with most AR trigger-compatible weapons, the Franklin Armory F17 series, and .22 LR and 9mm uppers without modification.

SHOT Show 17 – Kel-Tec

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

It’s always a joy to visit the Kel-Tec booth, as they consistently have new products to check out every year. Granted, it will be a while before you’ll see them on the market, but it what it is. For this year, Kel-Tec has two new models of their RDB, and one new model of the KSG.

KSG-25

IMG_4424

Forgive the image orientation, but it was necessary because the KSG–25 is long, 38″ long to be exact. The KSG-25 sports a 30.5″ barrel, with a standard capacity of 24+1 2.75″ shells, hence the name. It weighs a hefty 9.25 lbs. unloaded, and roughly 11.5 lbs. when loaded. This particular model will come complete with Magpul MBUS front and rear sights, and a Magpul RVG vertical grip, along with a heat shield to cover the extended barrel. Kel-Tec states the KSG–25 will see a limited release third quarter of this year, provided demand is high enough.

RDB Tactical

IMG_4427

The RDB Tactical is a variation of the RDB, featuring a two position collapsible stock which provides shooters with 1.5″ of additional length, as well as an M-LOK forend designed specifically for the rifle. The barrel length is 16″, and the RDB Tactical can accept any standard AR-15 compatible magazines. This rifle was so new, Kel-Tec wasn’t able to produce marketing materials for it to bring to the show.

RDB Survival

IMG_4428

The RDB Survival is a minimalist profile variant of the RDB designed for field carry. Like the Tactical, it features a 16″ barrel, although this one is pencil profile to keep the weight down. The Survival model has an overall length of 26.1″, with a weight of 5 lbs., comes with integrated iron sites, and can accept any standard AR magazines. The Survival also features the same two positions stock as the tactical model, providing an additional 1.5″ of stock length for the shooter, which is also what lets the Survival skirt the minimal legal length.
