SOFREP Crate Club

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016

If you’re looking for an interesting Christmas gift idea, you might want to consider the SOFREP Crate Club. I joined a few months ago to check it out. I’ve subscribed to a couple of other Crate services to learn about how they work. In some cases, they were boxes full of trinkets, junk really. In other cases, I received items I already owned or had zero use for but every once in awhile, there was a gem. I’ve known Brandon Webb of SOFREP for many years and I thought I’d give the SOFREP Crate Club a whirl, since it’s billed as the only gear delivery subscription where the gear is picked and tested by Special Operations veterans.

At the time there were only two membership levels, Standard and Premium. Because I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, and due to the cost disparity between the two levels, I chose Standard membership. The first month, I received a Gerber seat belt cutter. While I already had one around here somewhere, it’s one of those things that is pretty useful, so I put it in my pickup and didn’t write it off as a loss.

My next shipment contained something I didn’t have. The package contained “100 Deadly Skills: Survival Edition” by Retired Navy SEAL Clint Emerson. It’s a fun book with some great diagrams which amplify the one-page overview on any given survival topic. The book was accompanied by trial packets of TUFMED Tufhands and Tufbruise creams. I haven’t tried them yet, but I did read the book. I’m a reader, so I really enjoyed that Crate.

If you’re interested in seeing some items that are offered in the Standard Crate, check out this video.

I’ve since changed my subscription to the Premium Crate and am awaiting my first delivery. I did it because I wanted to get a more thorough experience. This video with Chris Paronto, shows the trauma bag they shipped in September.

If you want a sneak peek of what’s coming next, hit this link.

They’ve recently expanded the membership levels to three. In addition to the Standard and Premium packages, they’ve added a Pro level in between the two. The difference is the amount of gear, as well as the value. The Pro Crate is an upgrade to the Standard Crate, and it includes everything that’s in the Standard Crate as well as a couple of additional items that are unique to the Pro Crate. The Premium Crate is usually a unique set of gear of high value.

SOFREP offers gift options at check out and they are holding a Black Friday Sale from now until Black Friday. You can get 10% Off with promo code HOLIDAYNOW.

St Martin’s Press Teams With SOFREP For Ebooks

Saturday, September 28th, 2013

St Martin’s Press editor Marc Resnick has negotiated a deal with SOFREP.COM (Special Operations Forces Report) to publish hard-hitting, news-breaking original e-books from the world of Special Operations. With millions of visitors monthly, SOFREP is the largest Spec Ops site on the internet devoted to authentic, accurate, and timely analysis of Special Operations, Intelligence, and foreign policy issues that affect the United States. SOFREP’s editor-in-chief Brandon Webb is a former Navy SEAL and New York Times bestselling author of The Red Circle and the original e-book, Benghazi: The Definitive Report.

Resnick says, “With the December 17, 2013 publication of OPERATION RED WINGS: THE UNTOLD STORY BEHIND LONE SURVIVOR, St. Martin’s Press is thrilled to begin an extraordinary new e-book publishing program with our partner, SOFREP.COM.”

Tapping directly into the huge fan base of the bestselling memoir, Lone Survivor, and the upcoming Universal Pictures adaptation of that book, OPERATION RED WINGS tells the story of the recovery mission to rescue Luttrell for the first time ever. Written by Peter Nealen and the team at SOFREP using exclusive interviews, after-action reports, military intelligence, and previously untold accounts of the rescue mission, OPERATION RED WINGS is filled with never-before-told details and shocking new revelations.

SOFREP Acquires SpecialOperations.com

Monday, August 26th, 2013

I just found out that SOFREP has acquired the longstanding website SpecialOperations.com. Founded in the late 90s by Tom Hunter, it contained a great deal of insider SOF information. Over time Tom sold the site and its forum baca me the focal point.

Now, SOFREP plans to take SpecialOperations.com back to its roots and reinvigorate it as a SOF wiki that contains history, education and serves as a learning portal for worldwide SOF. If anyone can do it, it’s the staff at SOFREP.

I asked Brandon Webb if they were going to keep the forum and at this point he was unsure. Brandon updated me that SOCNET is a separate entity and will remain in place.

Congrats guys! I can’t wait to see the relaunch.

‘Inside the Team Room’ – Life Before the Teams

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

SOFREP.com premiered their new web series, ‘Inside the Team Room’ earlier this week with the episode Life Before the Teams. It’s a great bite sized look at the background of success. All three participants in this first round have proven themselves in the SEAL teams as well as in life and briefly discuss their upbringing and some of the ‘stuff’ that makes them different.

It’s definitely worth checking out.

Sneak Peek – The Brandon Webb Camo Project

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Unfortunately, we can’t give too many details (yet), but SOFREP Editor Brandon Webb is working with an unidentified company on a new hunting camouflage. They are telling me that this will be next breakthrough pattern in the outdoor industry because they are working to conceal the hunter in more than just the visual spectrum. The idea is great camo with signature management properties at an affordable price.

Here are a couple of shots to give you an idea of what he is up to.

SOFREP Launches The Load Out Room

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Brandon Webb, the boss over at SOFREP told me last week that they would be launching a new section on their site that would be gear centric. I mean after all, you can’t write about SOF and ignore all of the cool gadgets and gear associated with the business.

He sent along this message as well…

“Me and the former Editors at Kit Up are really excited to bring you guys unencumbered hard core reviews on our favorite guns and gear.

I want to give a special thanks to Eric Graves for all his support and encouragement when I told him we were striking out on our own. It’s all about long term relationships with our core audience and other link minded blogs. The Loadout Room looks forward to a long relationship with our friends over at Soldier Systems Daily. It’s a daily read for me. Enjoy our new site!”

Resco Instruments

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

SOFREP Editor Brandon Webb knows the owner of Resco Instruments, Rob Smith. They recently had a sit down and Brandon published the story behind Resco Instruments and how they were tested at BUDS, just like their designer.
