Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, April 18th, 2015

Most handgun fights occur within 10 meters so common sense tells you that you need to be an accurate and fast shooter at these distances. Keep this in mind when training and setting up your drills – shooting past 10 meters is absolutely recommended but a bit misguided for newer shooters that struggle at closer ranges.

Bottom line always remember what you are trying to accomplish and what the end game is; survival. Keep your training relevant and real.

Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, April 4th, 2015

I’ve been very fortunate to get where I am at in the firearms industry; I get fans all the time who say I have the best job ever and I totally agree. Being a gun guy down to my bone marrow I can honestly say I have a dream job.

But for those of you out there who are aiming for your dream occupation I have a piece of advice; work you ass off. My position in the industry is due primarily to one factor; I have worked and busted my ass getting the job done for decades, not just years.

It may look easy from the outside but to master any profession you need to be willing to put the work in to succeed. To quote my favorite rock band AC/DC ‘It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll ‘

LAV Answers Critics – “Why I’m Fat”

Thursday, March 26th, 2015

I’ve known LAV for a long time, and I know a lot about his background. I think it’s good that he has answered criticism about his weight issues, and I think his situation will resonate with many Military Veterans. Physically, the Military takes a toll. It robs men and women of their youth, but forges them into something greater; LAV exhibits this dichotomy. While he has adapted to physical challenges, his mind and skill set are as sharp as ever. I always wish Larry the best, and hope that his physical fitness routine pays off for a lifetime of healthy living.

When zeroing your carbine or any long gun for that matter always confirm your zero at distance. Any rough or initial zero at a short distance (like 25 yards) is to simply get you in the ballpark so you can refine it at distance.

The Big Army herds troops thru the zeroing process and then qualifies soldiers on a pop up target range; this to conserve ammo and for time efficiency- not that it’s the best way to go about zeroing your individual weapon.

SHOT Show – SureFire Blast Diffuser Coming Soon

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

IMG_8336.JPG

This the SureFire 5.56mm Blast Diffuser unveiled at last week’s SHOT Show. It adapts to a SF SOCOM muzzle brake / suppressor adapters and pushes the concussion of the muzzle brake forward, away from the shooter and those next to him. Because of this attachment, it does kind of resemble a miniature suppressor, but it’s not.

This is the prototype that was at SHOT Show. Everyone wanted it. I understand they had a cash offer of $600 to sell it, right there at the show. It is now in production and will be available soon.

Vickers Tactical released this video showcasing some new SureFire products including the Blast Diffuser. LAV is interviewing Jamie Wiedeman. They served together in the same Army unit for many years.

Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, January 24th, 2015

I just finished up the 2015 SHOT show in Las Vegas and it reminded me just how far we have come in the tactical firearms and gear industry since 9/11.

Many companies did not even exist in the tactical industry prior to 9/11 and the offerings were a fraction of what we have today.

In my line of work this is the best time ever – always try to keep this in mind when commenting on equipment and companies on SSD and elsewhere. Thanx to all those who have revolutionized the tactical industry – we all owe you tremendously for your efforts.
