Soldier System Daily – The Admin Stuff

Soldier Systems Blog Logo

If you want to write for Soldier Systems Daily its pretty simple. Just contact the Editor with your article idea. Seriously, that’s all you have to do. Generally, we want an article that is a couple of paragraphs long and answers the basic who, what, where, when, why, and how. Pictures are also helpful but make sure you have the permission of the owners. We are happy to give you a by-line but since thus far, this is a non-wealth generating pursuit, there will be no payment. However, so far everyone has wanted to keep it anonymous. One caveat for vendors, we will happily post press releases but the impact is much greater if someone checks out your product and writes an article on it.

Interested parties can contact Soldier Systems Daily at admin@soldiersystems.net.

MTT’s Mil Std 2525B template is essential for small unit leaders as well as headquarters personnel. The template is available with a pocket guide to be used as a reference for those more obscure symbols.

They also offer US, UK, and Australian Danger Zone templates as well as a variety of map protractors.

MTT is an Australian company but I have dealt with them in the past and they will get your purchases shipped out rather quickly.

Blackheart International Gunfighter Belt Kit

Blackheart International

Blackheart International does a great job of kitting equipment in order to make it easier for unit supply personnel to purchase gear. This is especially important during time crunches and often saves money as well. Their latest effort is the Gunfighter Belt Kit which includes:

Blackhawk Web Belt– The adjustable belt features a three-point buckle.
Special Operations Holster – A mainstay in holster design, it’s full flap keeps the pistol well protected from the elements. The flap can also be affixed in the open position or a spare magazine pouch can be mounted horizontally. The holster fits most large frame pistols.
Double Pistol Mag Pouch– In addition to the holster’s front pouch that will hold a back-up magazine, light, or multi-tool the kit comes with a double magazine carrier.
Leatherman Core Multi-tool and Case– The Core is a durable Multi-tool with 18 tools including two blades, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, and screwdrivers.
KA-BAR with Sheath– The legendary Ka-Bar serves as an excellent chopping tool and comes mounted in a hard sheath.

When assembling the kit, Blackheart weighed the utility of an item against cost. The equipment is common to most gun belts. The kit does not include weapon or magazines. It comes in Coyote Tan and is available with a Large (up to 43″) or X-Large (44″ to 49″) belt and right or left hand draw holster, from Blackheart International.

TangoDown SCAR Rail Panels

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

This is kind of a follow up to our article on the ARC magazines developed by TangoDown for the SCAR program. In addition to the specialized magazines TangoDown whipped out a couple of other cool items including a new version of their successful rail cover. The main change is that the SCAR panels are thinner than the originals. Military Morons has been running some for a couple of years now and has a great introductory write up.

Canadian Cot Organizer

CPGear by Wheeler

After seeing our article on Cabelas’ Cotside Nightstand, a reader alerted us to Canada-based Wheeler’s Cot Organizer manufactured under their CPGear Brand.

CPGear Cot Organizer

Constructed of mil-spec materials such as 420 denier nylon pack cloth, nylon mesh, and nylon webbing, it’s a bit pricier than the Cabelas model, but you get what you pay for. If you would prefer to spend your money on non-Asian alternatives, then the CPGear model, manufactured from quality materials in a NAFTA and NATO partner country, is the one for you.

RAN Issues New Uniforms

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Although the Royal Australian Navy announced plans for a new camouflaged uniform over a year ago, they just recently began issuing them. The modified DPCU is intended to denote RAN personnel as being Australian as it as much a branding issue as a form of camouflage. Most interesting, the sleeves have reflective bands to help identify over board crewmen.
