Fox NFL Team Checks Out the Vuzix Tac-Eye to Operate the iRobot SUGV

Fox NFL Sunday’s” Terry Bradshaw and Michael Strahan spent some time USAF EOD techs Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Spradley and Senior Airman James Dobrynski on a recent visit to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. They got some stick time with the iRobot EOD robot and checked out the Vuzix TAC-EYE.

We regularly field questions about the Arc’teryx naming conventions. It can be easy to get confused as there are various versions of many of the products which are essentially modifications for specific use. Once you understand the lingo, it’s easy to see what is going on.

SV: SEVERE WEATHER
Designed for use in the harshest of conditions. The SV garments are manufactured from the most durable of materials and feature hoods.

AR: ALL ROUND
These products are crafted from mid-weight materials and are designed with versatility in mind.

MX: MIXED WEATHER
Designed for mixed weather and dynamic movement The MX clothing feature durable, highly mobile stretch materials which are breathable and moisture shedding.

LT: LIGHT WEIGHT
These are made from the lightest of materials with streamlined feature sets. In the LEAF line, the new Alpha LT Jacket is a classic example of this.

SL: SUPER LIGHT
Predominantly made with lightweight Paclite® textiles this is generally the lightest weight garment in a series.

SK: SKI TOURING SPECIFIC
The SK is a winter sports-focused design with generous articulation for ski touring and alpine climbing.

“New” IED Map Symbols

Mil Std 2525C which sets the standard for all of those little pictures situated on your map overlay was updated over a year ago and one of the most significant, yet overlooked changes was the addition of map symbology for IEDs.

The Army is making a major push to integrate the new icons into digital C4ISR systems so you should be begin to see them soon on a FBCB2 screen near you. For those of you who would like a guide to learn to decipher all of those diamonds and rectangles, check out Mil Std 2525C.

EOTAC Concealed Carry DVD Giveaway

EOTAC partnered with Thunder Ranch Director Clint Smith to produce a short DVD introducing viewers to basic concealed carry techniques. The vignettes are extracted from a full length DVD Clint produced with American Handgunner and each segment shows how to accomplish a different presentation technique with various EOTAC clothing options. At only 12 minutes in length it has only been available exclusively to EOTAC dealers until now.

Soldier Systems convinced EOTAC to provide us with five copies to give away to lucky readers. To enter, all you need to do is send an email with “EOTAC Giveaway” in the subject line. ITS Tactical Blow Out Kit

Our friends at Imminent Threat Solutions didn’t just show you how to create a blow out kit they went the extra mile and are offering one for sale.

The kit was assembled by their resident SF medic following Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines. This means that the contents meet the basic standard set for American combat medical treatment. In particular the kit has been assembled to mitigate the three leading preventable causes of death in the field; Extremity Hemorrhage, 60%; Tension Pneumothorax, 33% and Airway Obstruction, 6%.
