The Close Quarter Battlesight (CQB) from UK producer Shield is a nonmagnified (1x) Mini Red Dot Sight. It is offered in 3 different red dot sizes:
1 MOA + 65 MOA ring
4 MOA dot
8 MOA dot (NSN 1240-99-555-2800)

It features variable intensity settings that at the low end can be seen with night vision devices and on the high end make the dot discernible in full day light. Battery life is from 1 to 3 years depending on the setting.

Shield has supplied over 20,000 of these CQBs to the British Army since starting production in 2010. The Shield CQB is subject to UK Export Control. Interestingly, it was developed from the Mini Sight which is NOT Export Controlled.

Jon Canipe Joins Magpul Dynamics as Director of Carbine Operations

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Magpul Dynamics isn’t the same company that it was even a year ago. They continue to adapt to advances in training methodology, weapon employment and equipment development. Today, as part of that continued improvement process, they officially announced that Jon Canipe has come on board as the Director of Carbine Operations, “in order to support the training schedule as well as support the development and testing efforts.” Canipe should be no stranger to readers of SSD. His weekly “Canipe Correspondence” series leverages his 12 years of military experience serving in US Army Special Forces. He will now offer his combat experience and time as an instructor at USAJFKSWCS to students of Magpul Dynamics. Congrats to Jon and Magpul Dynamics!

PNW Arms has launched their new website which incorporates social media, graphics, videos, and runs on the latest HTML5 technology. The landing site, www.pnwarms.com, is for general information relating to PNW Arms as an ammunition manufacturer. Explanations of technologies, product lines, and general corporate data is also available there. If you wish to purchase online directly from PNW Arms use the new webstore, store.pnwarms.com.

The work isn’t done. They plan to add new sections and content every week so if you don’t see something that you’d like to know more about either shoot an email to support@pnwarms.com or wait a bit and it’ll most likely be coming shortly. Additionally, a mobile version of the corporate site will come online in October for all the smart phone users who are having trouble navigating the new site.

Crye Precision Featured in Monocle

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Crye Precision and their invention, MultiCam, are featured in the article “The Art of Getting Lost” in issue 56 of the magazine Monocle.

At Monocle’s website is a fantastic video featuring Caleb Crye discussing what motivates his workforce and unveils a few lesser known projects like a lightweight dirt bike and new design concepts for diving equipment. Additionally, Gregg Thompson weighs in on one of my favorite causes, American manufacturing.

The magazine is worth picking up as it’s packed with facts and is very well laid out. I got mine at Barnes & Noble.
