Factors that Affect Law Enforcement Officers’ Use of Body Armor

Sunday, July 21st, 2013

The National Institute of Justice has launched a page on the website entitled, “Factors that Affect Officers’ Use of Body Armor.” It is meant to aggregate any studies that they have conducted relative to the use of body armor by law enforcement officers.

Currently, there are two topics with supporting documentation: Agency Policies Promote Use of Body Armor and Comfort of Body Armor. One interesting role NIJ has taken in the improvement of body armor comfort is in the realm of fit. They have worked with the American Society of Testing and Materials to develop standards for fitting armor so that industry and consumers alike will work from a common point of view for sizing.

This is a great resource.

Sneak Peek- Snake Hound Machine “Loudener”

Sunday, July 21st, 2013

Recently, when speaking with some friends in the suppressor business I said that if silencers were removed from NFA and made mandatory someone would be upset because the Government wouldn’t let them shoot loud guns. Well, suppressors aren’t mandatory equipment (yet) but some one has stepped up to make your guns louder. Snake Hound Machine’s new “Loudener” a concussion enhancing muzzle device, certainly turns your rifle up to 11.

Introducing the most obnoxious, ear-shattering, explosive muzzle device you can put on a gun. The “Loudener” is a specially designed single chamber brake that is made to allow the burning gases to expand before hitting the baffle causing the maximum pressure wave scaring dogs and children everywhere. Will be available in 5.56, AK, and 308.

Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

Saturday, July 20th, 2013

I believe everyone who is serious about using a long gun should learn how to use an AK; by best estimates 100 million or more have been made so somewhere along the line you will probably run into one. If you decide to trick one out for personal use make sure you don’t lose the ability to pick up a standard Kalashnikov and run it effectively – don’t make your personal one so unique you lose the skillset to employ a rack grade one should the need arise.
